A recent study was done to show that Myco was only erradicated by 85% of those on the Azithro regiment described, however Avelox ( Moxifloxacin) killed Myco in all cases. Routine is to try described Azithro regimen first and if symtoms still exist Moxifloxacin. Why? I guess so that Myco doesn't become Moxifloxacin resistant. Save the bugs, kill the patient kind of thing. I say take the 400mg a day X 10 day regiment of Moxifloxacin and help yourself.

He had pain with urination and came up positive for mycoplasma genitallium. I have done doxy and azithromycin and still came up positive for mycoplasma genitallium and ureaplasma. my partner and I are finishing up 14 days on Moxi and I am still having cramping. My partner is still having testicular pain. So I’m guessing this didn’t work either. I would assume my symptoms should be cleared up right after the treatment, right? Anyone have success getting any other medications in the USA?
We have been together about year and a half (and he has not had sex with anybody else for about 2,5 years and then with a condom). Could it be that he got it even before that, so maybe 3-4 years ago and it didn’t show? And how is it possible that in november I tested negative for the same thing and we have regular sex? I am pretty sure he hasn’t cheated on me.
I’ve taken zithro, doxy, Bactrim, over the summer. And lots of it. And recently I’ve taken cipro and a shot of rocephin. It was also recently that my test results from a swab culture came positive for mycoplasma when in the past urine tests always said i was negative for all STDs. When my test results kept coming back negative the doctor told me it was fine to have sex with my partner.

He also took a swab to develop in the lab and he said moxifloxacin 400mg was fast effective to the bacteria but there was a part of the bacteria that was resistant. He still gave me a 20 day course and its been a week since i've finished it and yes the infection is still there. My symptoms is not as bad as some other sufferers, slight discharge in the mornings and tingles around the tip but not as much as before.

After returning to the US, I had tests done again which all came negative, including standard broad spectrum STD testing and even mycoplasma (blood test, not swab) yet symptoms still exist. I have gone through two courses of levofloxacin (30 days) and one course of moxifloxacin (10 days) yet it still persists. The moxifloxacin seemed to have more effectiveness.
I've seen several similar posts in this community and hope someone can help or share their experience.

I recently tested positive for Ureaplasma Urealyticum and Mycoplasma Hominis, my symptoms are
- Frequent Urination.
- Painful bladder that comes and goes
- Pain in Groin Area
- Tickle in throat that provokes a cough and mostly aggravated with dry Air.
i have tried many different Antibiotics (Minocycline, Doxycycline, Zitromax)
Anyone familiar with this painful infection ? Help ??
Clinicians are testing out of protocol out of sheer ignorance and then sending off people with no answers, or worse yet, putting people on 30-60 days of cirpofloxacin and levofloxacin which has no effective cure against MG and only makes Moxifloxacin useless because MG gains resistance from cipro/Levo.
Moxifloxacin is still a hope for 70% of the cases. For many due to prior treatment of a flouroquinolone its useless.
You options are test full ejaculate and FVU together.
I would like to get a ureaplasma or mycoplasma test but it seems to not be offered in the US and since I finished the abx pills and all of my tests are neg. my Dr. thinks I am 'recovered' and refused to test me for anything else!
Your situation is a difficult one and moxifloxacin has proven to be effective against chlamydia, mycoplasma genitalium and gets into the prostate well.

Your situation doesn't sound too dissimilar to mine. Unprotected sex with a random girl, stinging on glans initially a day or so later. Settled down and then flared up. Got tested for everything and would up having my cool as a genitalium. Tried azithromycin but that failed. Just finished a course of a velox or modi. Seems to have done the job. I seem to have some blotchy colouring on my glans now and redness around uterthra. Going to get a referral to a urologist now.
Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've called many places and nobody tests for mycoplasma genitalium as I know and the discharge is clear in color.
I first visited a Chinese STD hospital and tested positive for two forms of mycoplasma. I first took Doxycycline and then Moxifloxacin, neither one cleared up my symptoms. I will likely go to visit a urologist soon.

I’m assuming it’s mycoplasma since it’s so hard to isolate in a test and it was clearly sexually transmitted
The most recent course of Moxifloxacin I have finished was for suspected mycoplasma genitalium, although the tests came back negative when I was half way through antibiotics for it. However, after a few days of taking the anti biotics the tip of my penis was itching and red. When I went back to the clinic, the doctor said this whole time it has been Thrush and prescribed me a tablet + cream.
I think the only test to see if this is indeed mycoplasma is a NAAT test which seems to be beyond my reach here in China and financially.
Any advice or council is so greatly appreciated.

Are you certain that the test was for mycoplasma genitalium and not mycoplasma hominis? In the US, it is almost impossible to find a test for mycoplasma genitalium. The comments above from shaken assume that you are talking about m. genitalium. M. hominis is generally considered to be less consequential for you or your girlfriends health (although some doctors will treat it with antibiotics).

I told this doctor because I build a relationship with him over the past couple of years and I saw the article and shared the rest with him. Anyway after 2 weeks on Moxifloxacin and I found how I felt when I ejaculated as I did prior to ever contracting MG. Also, I tested negative for MG but here's the punch, my girlfriend tested positive after specifically asking for it. Yet me positive. Anyway, long story short everything is fine now. Good as new.
If you have a persistent mycoplasma genitalium infection that has failed azithromycin and Moxifloxacin, urge your doctor to try Lefamulin (Xenleta). This is a new and very promising antibiotic and could be the hope those need for untreatable mycoplasma infections.
Lefamulin is now available through Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy. Please look into this and demand that you try it.
I’ve lived with this for too long and am willing to try anything my tests were also positive and then negative after Moxifloxacin but I still have symptoms and stinging pain. It’s been about a year.
I have read that there are many multi resistant kinds of mycoplasma in China since antibiotics is cheap and easy to get here.
Wait for results if they say nothing is wrong tell them your partner had antibiotic resistant mycoplasma genitalium and you require rifampin and moxifloxacin because if you take one and not the other you will become resistant and require Intraveneous Synercid. Don't let a dumb doctor swap one antibiotic for another not knowing what to treat and don't let a doctor convince you otherwise. Unless the doc immediately knows of mg. You stand no hope of getting help.
If you meant to say that you took Moxifloxacin, and you still have symptoms, it just means that you have multi drug resistance MG. Yes, there are STD’s in this country that are not known about AND MG is the culprit behind many undiagnosable urethritis/prostatitis issues.
This is way more common than the doctors even know about. I’m not saying this to scare you, I’m saying this. because it’s the truth.
I am not a doctor, but I read that for Mycoplasma and maybe other NSU, it seems like Moxifloxacin is a more efficient treatment. Maybe you should ask your Dr after it ?

Also, if you have taken ciprofloxacin of levofloxacin, you can still take Moxifloxacin and have a decent shot of curing the infection, if it’s indeed MG.
discomfort in the lower pelvic area, waking up about an hour earlier than normal to pee, and less robust sexual performance. It’s painful to sit for too long, and the thought that this problem will persist long term is seriously depressing.
I’m a 30 year old expat living in Taiwan and my doctor here is not being super helpful. Can anyone suggest specific tests or treatment options I can request?
