1645944 tn?1305243337 In the past few years, I have begun having a histamine reaction to Morphine and Dilaudid, which knocks out Demerol by association. When I received it by IV in the hospital, I broke out in a rash on my chest, felt like I couldn't breathe - like a weight was on my chest (even though my pulse ox was 100%), couldn't entirely move my arms and legs, and couldn't talk. So, there go the narcotics. Ummm, in two days they are gonna cut my head open, HELP?!
Avatar n tn The morphine is actually much less problematic than the oxycodone. You should be comfortable taking the morphine and not the oxy.................
Avatar f tn Morphine must be okay for the liver because that's what they used when I was in the ICU following my liver transplant. Be VERY careful with morphine. I was on it for 7 days and went wacky with hallucinations of all kinds.
Avatar f tn I did some research and apparently morphine, dilaudid and fentanyl are all in the same class of drugs. Would it not be contraindicated to give a patient who states morphine doesn't work some other related drug? Obviously, I'm not a medical professional. But what happened? Why didn't anything work? Can someone give me some insight? I am not a drug user. I've never used drugs a day in my life, aside from occasional alcohol intake. How do I prevent this from happening again?
654183 tn?1225309036 My husband is addicted to Morphine. I have never done any type of drug and I really don't know what to do to help. Every time I think I know what is going on I find out something else he has lied about. At first it was just taking the pills, then it was crushing the pills. Now I'm finding needles and spoons everywhere. He claims that he gets the pills down to liquid form and puts them in the needle and squirts it in his mouth. I just don't believe him anymore.
Avatar m tn Certain factors can trigger the release of histamine and the other chemicals from mast cells and this includes drugs (especially aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, codeine and morphine, and some anaesthetics), alcohol, emotional stress, physical stimuli (heat, exercise and friction), bacterial toxins and insect venom. Liposuction is a physical stimulus and can trigger histamine release.
Avatar n tn I think lilkim is on the right track but I would tend to think it would be from the combination of the drugs. The Morphine is more apt to cause stomach upset, especially if your not use to taking that amount. I would definitly call the Doctor and tell him that you've been vomiting with the meds and see if he can't lower the dose for you. He might just give you something different for the pain as Doctors do not like to hear that you've been vomiting.
Avatar m tn Now when I lay down to go to bed I drift into this light sleep state and I have the same high feeling as before. It was more intense when I was on drugs so I related it to the drugs, but now there's nothing in my system and I have no clue whats going on. I dont know if i should ask my neurologist about it or not. I'm not complaining just more curious. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them?
Avatar m tn im not sure what mg but i expect him to start me on 15 of morphine. will the morphine help me? should i talk to him about another option such as percocet? im scared that the low beginning dosage will affect my quality and comfort even more.
Avatar m tn What protocol would be good to reduce the drugs? Is there a standard model to follow? I know it will probably not be possible to eliminate them completely because the neurostimulator is not perfect.
Avatar n tn Hi yes it is normal behavior for Morphine, when you first start it your on top of the world then comes irritation and depression and even nightmares for some. How much is he on? How long? and dose he want to quit?
Avatar f tn Took an awful long time to figure that I was SENSITIVE to morphine/codeine. After operations I went nuts with nausea and ITCHING...that dang oxygen thing up my nose!! I told them FINALLY about this that I finally had to figure out on my own and got on different anesthesia. WOW. What a difference!! Allergies imply something altogether different and one CAN develop an allergy to drugs such as morphine and THAT YOU don't want happening.
886779 tn?1253644204 How much morphine are you using and what are they giving it to you for. If you are trying to withdraw from morphine permanently, plan on feeling like death for at least the first few weeks. I was told to go to a detox facility and that I couldn't break the addiction on my own. Well, after 8 years of having 16 mg morphine shots for cluster migraines and neck problems, I had had enough of it, and I wanted to be free from having to go to the doctor every single day of my life for pain control.
Avatar n tn the hospital that my newborn is at is treating my baby with morphine and quanadine for what they say are suboxone withdrawls. he wa doing ok untl they put hin in the nicu. Now he is having problems and they say getting worse. they keep upping his dosage. I dont want them to do this and they say then my insurance wont pay for the bill if i refuse treatment. I hae asked them to start reducing his dosage so he can come home. He is fine when i am there holding him.
Avatar m tn Even when I shattered my leg skiing and I was in the hospital on a MorphinePatient button drip, it did nothing. Does anyone have this problem of Morphine drugs not having ANY affect on pain for them? I don't even feel the side affects and I am still going through the DT's from the Methadone. At least the Methadone kept my pain at bay so I could function.
Avatar m tn I have become physically dependent on MS Contin which is the same type of med as oxycontin only Morphine is the narcotic instead of oxcycondone. I was prescribed this as a pain control medication for 2 years at which time they diagnosed my condition which required surgery. After surgery I now feel I don't need this strong pain med any longer and my other pain can be handled by a weaker pain med like percocet.
Avatar f tn My mother is currently being weaned from Morphine that she was prescribed for back pain for many months. Do any drugs prescribed for Morphine withdrawal cause slurred speech? When I speak to my mom on the phone, she sounds like a drunk person every time I talk to her. This has been going on for weeks now. She swears she's not drinking alcohol and says it's the drugs she's been taking for the withdrawal. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Second - is this a short acting (SA) or is it a long acting (LA) Morphine? 60mgs of Morphine is one heck of a one time dose. I would not take it. There could be serious complications, especially if you your system is opiate naive. Don't take it.
Avatar n tn Boy I am not sure I think your best bet would be to tell your doctor and ask for some help to get off of them. You can do it I know its scary but we are here to help.
Avatar f tn I have been given, hydrocodone, Tylenol 3, morphine, Vicodin, and others, I feel absolutely no relief from pain EVER, be it kidney stone or tooth ache. I have bottles of this crap. I tell drs I feel no pain relief ever! I do get nauseated and a bit sleepy. These r my only two symptoms after taking a pill, or they IV it in my arm. Otherwise nothing. My daughter for an arm break got down right loopy after some morphine.. It was amazing too watch. Me? Never. Drs never believe you either.
Avatar n tn I've been taking Morphine Sulfate 15mg. slow release tablets for 2 weeks. The back pain I had is gone and I want to stop taking the Morphine. Is it safe to stop or do I have to wean off of it? I also have the quick release 15mg. of Morphine which I haven't had to use. Will I have some sore of reaction if I stop cold turkey?
Avatar f tn My pain specialist doctor and I tried 4 separate tests-Not 1 came back as it should have-I was on morphine then-about 400 mgs a day-3 tests came back saying no morphine in my system-1 came back showing cocaine-no |I don't and 2 came back showing THC-no I haven't in years.According to McMasters pain guideline patients are supposed to be asked by their doctor if they wan't to divulge anything before a pee test-not spring it on them.
Avatar n tn Indeed, the finding that itching improved in some people treated with drugs that block the binding of morphine or endorphins to nerves supported this consideration. Yet, many patients do not respond to these blocking drugs, suggesting that other causes or mechanisms are involved in producing itching...." http://www.medicinenet.com/primary_biliary_cirrhosis/page8.
Avatar f tn Are there any drugs to help the weakness and the peripheral neuropathy? I would be very grateful to know ASAP!
