Listen to the young lady Ohio,Once the infection is cleared. The pain will no longer exist,as for needing pain meds for the root canal you wont,as far as pain goes its nothing. The infection is what is causeing the pain.
My doctor told me that I'd get put on the machine that dispenses morphine whenever I pressed the button. Yey! Good. No bad pain for me, so I thought. Back to the morphine machine. It was broken. I didn't know it! The hospital didn't know it. I kept pressing the button over and over and felt no relief. After about 6 hours of crying and feeling the actual pain that a surgery has with no medication at all, I just wanted a gun put to my head.
-facial pain only on one side of my face -pain starts soon after I get up in the morning - rarely have pain at night -pain is in front of ear down my jaw, and always ending at a certain point on my jaw- at the edge of my chin -pain is buring, dull ache, to at times like a sharp knife is picking away at the inside of my ear -pain also feels like a toothache - a really bad one What should I ask my doctor? Should I ask for a referral to another specialist?
lucky I'm not quite sure what I will do for now, I will leave that up to the dr.
I would LOVE to get off these pain meds. It's one thing to take a Percocet once in a while for a toothache or after a surgery but being a slave to pain medication is no fun. I'm on the Duragesic patch, 75 mg., plus 45 mg. oxycodone every 4 hours and Cymbalta and Clonidine for nerve pain. I also have to prescription creams and a lidoderm patch. Initially I thought I could get my pain to a 1 or 2. Then I thought I'd be happy at a 3.
The funny thing is, I work for a physical therapist who has done wonders for our patients. I know that exercise is the key to a lot (not to mention weight loss), it's just so very difficult for me personally to get 'past the pain' when it comes to exercising. I exercise a little and am in a tremendous amount of pain for days. Quite disheartening and very embarrassing. Pretty sure any surgery is out of the question (they would have to catch me first - that first one was a hum-dinger).
lol) what I would like to know, has others suffered these same results from taking pain management meds. Now I end up taking the meds for severe toothache and jaw pain also. Last, but not least is there a link between the two situations. Answers ans Suggestions welcomed.

It's just been very painful for her, the pulmonary dr said it could take a couple of weeks to adjust to it. So its been really slow going for her. Since she is mostly on morphine and percoset, she's been sleeping a lot. Yesterday she slipped in the bathroom. Even though the nurse and my dad helped her in, they told her to pull the string when she was finished, but she didn't. She got up and went to wash her hands and the wires and tubes twisted under her feet and she went down.
I've suffered hundreds of eopisodes during panic attacks, or perhaps it was the depersonalization that brought on the panic.......it has always been a chicken or the egg question for me. The two seem to happen spontaneously, but I've never just felt depresonalized without the ensuing panic. Again, this might be something other sufferers of fibromyalgia may recognize. Good questions and concerns to bring to your doctor. Sorry I wasn't more help. I sure feel for you, though.
Why in the society that we live in is it so easy to get vicodin and other narcotics? I was first prescribed morphine at the age of 15 without even being diagnosed with a reason to my pain. 10 years later I am an addict!! I feel like my youth was taken away from me! I was on morphine before I even had my first sip of beer!! No wonder I struggle now! I can't even count how many of my long time friends take pain medication. I don't know if any of them are addicts but I'm sure some are.
The reason I am able work out on the treadmill is because my pain occurs when either I am sitting or laying on my back, then it's like your worst toothache only it's in my hip. Also thank you for sharing your story. I'm not sure though from reading, are now clean and pill free? I hope so mid so how did you accomplish this the second time? It is amazing how even going from 6, 10mg per day to 5, 10mg will give you WD symptoms.
Vicks Formula 44M containing Dextromethorphan, and Primatene-M containing perylamine as well as the pain reliever Demerol, and prescription anti-depressant Elavil test positive for opiates up to three days. Even Quinine water can also cause a positive reading for opiates. Poppy Seeds such as the ones on a bagel from your favorite deli, etc. The journal of Clinical Chemistry Vol.33 No.
I am surprised that dentist is still in business. That is not normal. 9,999 out of 10,000 WON'T give oxys for a toothache. They aren't labeled for acute pain, let alone a toothache. And, to answer the question why narcotics are still available; They are available because they are valuable for pain relief. Until they come up with something that actually works for severe pain, they are all that we have. They should be available. Actually, they should be MORE available.
i litterally laid in the bed for about 6 or 7 months, high as hell, trying to block out what had happened. my aunt had morphine contin and instant release morphine for her pancreatitis.
Around 3 years ago I had a spinal fusion operation (L5 - I think) after an original injury when I was 14 (I am now 57) and a further injury that caused a massive displacement and severe limitations in lower limb co-ordination. The operation was from the front and the back and was supported by a couple of rods and screws. Initially it all seemed to go well until last year when there was an audible "twang" and subsequent MRI and CT scans have revealed a fracture in the fusion.
Its been so long now that I can't even remember why I started taking codeine in the first place I just know that for the last many years, I needed to take it to actually get to sleep. I hardly ever took them during the day, except for the odd occassion that I had a headache or a toothache and then I would only take 3. It was night time that I would wait until everyone went to bed and then sit there and down up to 30.
So sorry to hear you are dealing with this pain. Trigeminal Neuralgia is a diagnosis of ruling everything else out -- usually based upon the patient's own description of symptoms. So my first suggestion is to keep a pain journal -- writing down what type of pain ("electric", shooting, burning, aching, etc); where the pain occurs, how long it lasts, intensity (on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst), frequency, anything that appears to be "triggering" the pain.

With medications for the neurological problems as well as Morphine for pain as well, I'm able to cope with things. Other than the pahntom pains, there is no real explaination. Since you can see a change in your scrotum, you might have to get a second opinion. Something else has to cause these problems. I'm sorry that I don't have a solution for you, but have an idea what it is like to live with pain. I experience pain on a daily basis.
The trigeminal nerver runs above the ear and splits into three branches one for the lower jaw, one for the upper jaw and one for the surface of the eye and forehead. If the pain in your eye is on the surface of the eye, it could be Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) . If the pain is behind your right eye and increases as you look laterally that could be Optic Neuritis(ON). You should consider calling your neuro. TN's symptoms can be treated and it can get VERY painful really quickly.
**DO NOT TAKE MORPHINE** I TELL MY DR I AM ALLERGIC TO MORPHINE CAUSE....BACK IN THE DAY THEY USED MORPHINE TO TEST FOR SPHINCTER OF THE ODDI....IT WILL ALWAYS MAKE IT WORSE AND INCREASE VOMITING. going to the doctor for meds for a toothache, and abusing what they give you). It comes in all forms, and unfortunately, yours came in the form of chronic-pain. Count yourself lucky that you know what you are. There are plenty of addicts out there that have yet to realize what they truly are, and yet to admit it to themselves and others. Take care and good luck.
Hi, I've tonight found images showing the parathyroid gland, having searched for an answer to a recurring & extremely painful face & neck, hence why I am here asking questions The first time this happened I was diagnosed in A&E as a "probable lymph node infection, very rare & it was pressing on the Trigeminal nerve" & given antibiotics & told to take anti inflamitaries, use ice packs etc......
My advice, ask your friendly doctor for some valium and sleeping pills and go for it. You really have to psyche yourself up for it but you CAN do it!!
This self-care plan is best for relief of mild-to-moderate acute pain, such as a toothache or headache. It is not appropriate for chronic pain. Long-term use of any painkiller should be monitored by a doctor because of the risk for side effects. All dosages listed are for adults. Also, don’t use products that combine two or more of these ingredients, such as Extra-Strength Excedrin, which includes acetaminophen and aspirin.
