3112530 tn?1434032033 I stopped the Fentanyl cold turkey and got off the morphine for a while until my doctor prescribed it for me again. The morphine does take the pain down one notch but the itches are annoying but it starts 8 hours later. When I take another morphine, the itches go away. Does this show I am addicted? I only take the morphine every 12 hours but if really in pain, I take another after 8 hours. What is this all about?
653169 tn?1303446369 I was especially asking for personal experience because, as you found, swelling nor edema is documented as a side effect of the morphine. However, since I have been an RN for over 10 years and was a pharmacy tech level A for several years before that, I am aware that there are more rarely reported side effects of medications that aren't documented! So, again, was only asking about personal experiences with the use of Morphine ER.
Avatar f tn okay went back and did some hunting. this is a quote: "there are many side effects with using pain meds for cats however based on all avail info at this time the ones with the fewest side effects and safest for cats are the following..... Buprenorphine(buprenex) Butorphanol(torbutrol, torbugesic) Tramadol(Ultram) Fentanyl(duragesic) probably the worst one I've read about is metacam, this one can cause blindness among other problems...beware, many Vets still use it!!
Avatar f tn You can also try other meds. Even over-the-counter dramamine can be used for dogs. Reglan and phenergan are two other considerations. As with any medication, make sure you check with your vet first. Does your dog actually throw up on car trips? Is there a certain amount of time it takes to get really sick or is it immediate? You're doing a great job taking Rocky on short trips to get him used to car travel.

Avatar f tn My German Shepherd was recently prescribed incurin and it has caused her not to eat and a little bit aggressive and scared... She also was running around with her hackles up and starting fights with my other dogs...She only had 3 or 4 days of it and then I took her off of it this last Sunday was her last dose...She still is not wanting to eat and not 100% back to herself? How long do the side effects last...It was taking me an hour and a half to get her to eat 2 cups of food...
539209 tn?1225972263 For those on Lyrica, it does initially cause balance problems, and when I first started taking it, I couldn't drive for a several hours afterwards. Gradually various side effects went away, altho I am still careful with driving. Lyrica does work very well for some pain, and for me, to wake up for the first time in years without dreadful low back pain, so bad that it used to take me an hour to get out of bed, was a miracle.
Avatar f tn I do not know that this surgery is available yet for dogs, or whether or not there are any canine neurosurgeons who would perform it, but if it does exist, my guess is that it would still be cost-prohibitive for anyone but the wealthiest pet owners or people who have pet health insurance. A change in appetite is a common side effect of phenobarbital. Some dogs eat less and have to be cajoled into eating, others become voracious and can't seem to eat enough.
Avatar n tn Some of the side effects reported vary due to different breeds & several other factors. We have 1 Rottweiler mix male & 2 rescued dogs (German Rottweiler female & American Rottweiler female). German Rotty was approx 2 y/o when rescued. She had her first seizure approx 2 months ago. Scared me to death. A month later she had another so I knew some of the signs before hand. My mixed male & American Rotty female were going crazy when the seizures occurred.
Avatar n tn Hello, Fatigue and dry mouth and dyspepsia are frequent side effects of Vesicare but it is unlikely to cause any sore throat. Your sore throat can be due to some viral infection. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and use over-the-counter throat lozenges. Salt water gargle is also a good way to relieve a sore throat. In addition, you can take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen) after consulting your general physician.
Avatar m tn He will need pain killers specially for dogs, such as Metacam, or Rimadyl or something else perhaps. He will also need his condition fully checked out.
647120 tn?1256601651 I am pretty sure I need a maintenance drug, but morphine has always seemed to be overkill and not worth the weird side effects. I wonder why they are so OK with prescribing morphine and not lesser drugs like hydrocodone. I always heard it is because you need more and more, but don't you build tolerance with morphine, too? My only issue with hydrocodone is I can't sleep on it, so I'll need another drug.
Avatar n tn If this is a small dog and 3ml is a human dose, then yes, it could be harmful.....A large dog would be less likely to suffer as serious side effects....... The same overdose symptoms can happen to a dog as with a human.......You need to look at your package warning label and read them or google side effects of this medication...... If you see anything unusual with your dog's behaviour, you need to seek medical attention ASAP.....Let us know how he/she is doing.....
Avatar f tn Hi there, I looked on the side effects of Depakote and I didn't find anything to do with this. I've never been an angry person, nor have I really ever have I ever blasted people or my dogs. I yell at my dogs, have no patience, basically more irritability that I'm not able to control .I'm Bipolar, with mixed states, rapid cycling and have been in the last couple of months, hypomanic.
1052851 tn?1307741160 Or, maybe your doctor thought that morphine would have less side effects, or maybe thought that morphine had a lower dependency profile. But, these are all just guesses... you would have to ask your family doctor. It is also possible that there was a miscommunication and your doctor thought you recieved morphine in the hospital, and since he thought that had worked for you, that is why he prescribed it, when in fact it was demerol that you had recieved. But, again, that is just a guess.
Avatar n tn Calcitriol is a natural form of Vitamin D that was formerly used for human dialysis patients to restore kidney function. Calcitriol is currently available for dogs and cats in kidney failure and veterinarians order it through various compounding pharmacies. Calcitriol is compounded specifically for each pet according to their body weight and BUN-Creatinine levels. It is given to pets as a capsule by mouth once a day.
Avatar n tn I have had 1 c section with my first 12 yrs ago, and i was very sick afterwards, i was in a wheelchair for 2 days, couldn't stop vomiting (allergy to the morphine) and was so painfully sore. With my 2nd, i had a vaginal birth, and it hurt like hell and i screamed the hospital down, but afterwards i felt great, was able to walk around and hold my baby. With this pregnancy they have given me the choice of how i want to give birth and hands down i'm choosing to go vaginal again.
2030686 tn?1351688548 t last long. I took a hot bath for my legs and it helped for a little while, but the pain came back. This morning I woke up covered in sweat and my shin bone hurts on the leg where I took the shot. The pain in my hips is returning but was gone when I woke up. Are these normal sx?
Avatar m tn yep any opiate causes respiratory depression- some worse than others and also depends on each persons physiology and their reaction to each drug. For me, morphine was the worst- i had severe breathing problems when i was taking the time release form of it. (at prescribed doses= wasnt spiking it, overusing it, crushing it or anything) But second in line for breathign troubles for me was Darvocet of all things.
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.
Avatar f tn I have degenerative joint disease/disk disease and the pain pump was an option along with the spinal cord stimulator but these were/are a last resort for me as I have been on many drugs to control the pain. Morphine has many side effects and maybe your doctor is seeing some side effects which could be 'an answer' that is not being mentioned here. I know the opioid's did not work for my pain. Nerve blocks helped but remember the nerve does grown back over time.
1623704 tn?1300452745 I just started Lyrica yesterday. I was so scared to start because of all the side effects. Well, was wondering, if anyone else is taking it, and if so, do the side effect go away after awhile? I felt REALLY drunk all day. Glad I didn't have to do much! Should I take at bed time instead of morning?
Avatar n tn ve stayed with it the longest. My question is regarding the side effects. Occasionally I will notice an internal restless feeling -- usually lasts a few days. It's almost like I feel kind of antsy. My sleep is not disturbed -- I sleep normal as usual. I've also noticed, and have in the past, that I have some twitches. Various muscles in my body will twitch from time to time.
