1686743 tn?1306005451 For the last year I have been taking15 mg Morphine2 times a day, and 5mg Oxycodone HCI For pain in back and hips, and knee. At this dosage I have been getting some relief.Could one say that I'm chemically dependent. I'm 6 ft tall and 172 lbs. What is the suggested dosage for 61 yr old? I just had surgery in my chest and the pain level is 10 by times 10. they increased the oxy to 10 mg every 4 hrs and the Morphine 3 times a day 30 mg a day. with little effect.
614471 tn?1221179194 180mg was a low dose for me to take daily...even after the pain was gone. tapering with morphine isn't fun, but it seems to be doable. i took 2 weeks to get myself down to 60mg aday, which already felt like withdraw. i stopped all opiates 8 days ago. things are starting to look a little better now. this site has been a big help for me, and lots of others. you're not alone here, everyone here knows exactly what you're going thru.
Avatar m tn About 1 month ago my pain management doctor increased my dosage of morphine sulfate from 10 gm to 30 mg (1 every 12 hours). Shortly after I began taking the 30mg morphine sulfate, I started to develop a slight rash. Over the last week, the rash has become much worse and a real problem. I've been taking over the counter benadryl tabs to get some relief from the rash which is helping a little to relief the itching and rash.
Avatar f tn hi folks have a some questions about changing pain meds. My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
Avatar f tn Hi Christie, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your mothers chronic back pain. You did not indicate if your Mom is elderly and you are caring for her or if she is independant and not a senior citizen. Also who is this nurse? Is she a friend of yours or is she routinely involved in your mother's care? In other words does he know your mother well?
Avatar f tn Thanks, I have only had chronic pain for about two years now. Its been so hard to adjust. I do not like pain medications and often feel like a slave or zombie to my pain meds. Just like I cannot be free. Its gotten much worse in pregnancy and am often up a few times a night for a few hours laying around in agonizing pain just begging for it to subside to get rest so I can take care of my other girls. It hard to cope.
Avatar n tn Hi Dylan, glad to hear you're pain is under control for you. You said you have been on mscontin for 4 years....have you been on the original dose all these 4 yrs or has the dose needed to be increased occasionally to control you're pain? I too have a huge fear of drugs, but from all I've been reading if they are used responsibly there shouldn't be an abuse problem.
Avatar f tn I think oxycodone is far superior when compared with morphine (as far as how well it works for pain. I would ask your doctor to just switch you back" to the "oxy 15s" when you are able to,. you can always take tylenol with your oxycodone, which magically turns them into them into a "strong percocet". When you said the morphine "doesn't seem very strong", what do you mean by saying that exactly? I'm just curious, just like your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have been in Pain Management now for five years. Gone from Vicodin to Morphine, from Morphine to Spinal Stimulator & Vicodin. With failed stimulator (for what ever reason) back on Morphine and Morphine mg getting higher & higher. I have reciently been placed on Morphine patch. When put on the patch, will your body go through withdrawals symptoms? I dont feel ill in any way, I feel depressed and worthless...
Avatar m tn Hello there... I'm not speaking to WD symptoms, I'll say that up front, but I've had those specific symptoms when a morphine dose is wearing off. Unfortunately for me, I'm a recovering-addict that has regular onset of kidney-stones (10-12 stone passages a month, on average). I say 'unfortunately', because I usually have to go through passing a kidney-stone without narcotic pain medication.
Avatar f tn When the problem does not resolve despite adequate IT morphine dose adjustments, then the IT trial has to be abandoned including all prospects of permanent IT pump implantation Studies show that drug pumps (intrathecal drug delivery systems) may increase pain relief and comfort for people with severe chronic pain.1-5 Talk with your doctor about the benefits, risks, and responsibilities involved with using a drug pump for chronic pain.
Avatar m tn t know what your physical problem is but my sister in law had a morphine pump for chronic neuropathy pain and it helped for a while but started leaking spinal fluid after about a year. The morphine as you use it more causes more pain, so it isn't ideal not that anything is.
Avatar f tn The pain specialist says morphine and other opiates do not work well for MS pain because they do not go to where the pain is. He is not against Morphine I take it for Cancer. There are several drugs for nerve pain Lyrica, Gabenpentin, Trileptal, and few others. For muscle spasms there are muscle relaxers the main ones are Bacolphen, Flexiral, and Zananflex. Many people need a combination. Some drugs work for some people and others for others. My MS Specialist sent me to a pain clinic.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic pain since 2008, drs have told me I will always need something for pain ( I know very depressing, at age 36) but I have a great pain management, I have injections and stay on a lower class of pain meds, and try not to take them, to keep tolerance down, so that when I do have a BAD day, or a very bad flare up, they will work. You can't just pop a pill to stay numb, cause you will have to take more, stronger meds.
Avatar f tn Bria my husband is in pain management, what they gave him for pain relief because it lasts for such a long time is Methadone, I know it sounds strange but I guess it's not. He also takes 30 mg of Oxycontin, You might want to ask your doctor, because for his chronic back pain it's been wonderful.
Avatar n tn hi thanks for getting back to me - hes on morphine for extreme pain throughout his body but mainly his back and legs - he's on 110mg twice a day with liquid morphine viles in between to keep him going - however, the morphine seemed to make his symptoms worse and he has turned into someone i dont even know - he wont allow me to contact him so i feel useless and obviously very hurt and worried about him.
382218 tn?1341181487 Hi DB, I have been on a Duragesic patch for pain that is a morphine product. It is the only relief I have found for the pain. It made me very sleepy when I first began using it, but now it does not. I do get relief from it, however. The combination of the patch and Neurontin have helped immensely for the nerve pain I have n both legs. I hope this helps.
557111 tn?1219712047 butit is very addictive...most people on morphine are on it for pain and not for the high...of course exceptions to every rule...but it is a strong narcotic and this does not seem like a step forward in getting u clean from opiates...like avis asked...what is the pain and surgery related to? if it is lefe threatening cancer or something then choices may be different..
Avatar m tn s care but my dog is having bladder stones and he is very much unconfortable all night I have to take him downstairs to pee and all the vet has told me is to wait for the results of urine test to beggin treatment meanwhile he gave him Rimadyl for the Hip pain and also some Phenobarbitol for anxiety, but he still cries all the time, I am desperate !
1158557 tn?1262725929 It separated itself from how my normal pain was in many ways. Not to mention it started after I had reduced my daily morphine dosage. Mine also bothered me in my tailbone and then worked itself up my back. Sitting was very uncomfortable at times during these periods. I can not say that it has eased back much but then I am still going through a taper down in morphine so I don't know if mine ever will until I am off morphine completely.
Avatar n tn That's true but what we don't know is if the poster is an addict and if so, if the doctors knew. Regardless, it's no excuse for releasing you with nothing. A non addcit could take morphine for a week and just walk away in most cases.
Avatar m tn The morphine was added by my dr just this last 8 mos or so cuz he was trying to reduce how much perc I had to take for pain. I actually am feeling fine pain wise right now at least in my back just feel lethargic with a headache. I get migraines so I took a fioricet for body aches which helped. I know I could wean the morphine like every other day I just hate it so much. I would rather bite the bullet with it. Someone told me amino acids and vitamins.
