Avatar n tn Likely the symptoms are due to congestive heart failure and you are probably right that the fluid made this worse. If the blood pressure would permit an ACE inhibitor might be of value. Home oxygen might also help. I doubt that morphine is causing the breathing difficulty.
Avatar n tn my mother had a stroke 10 years ago and had a pacemaker put in as a result of low blood pressure.she recently had her pacemaker check-up(annually) and they put her on morphine(4 days) even though she is in no pain.
Avatar f tn I'm a young teenager and I was over dosed with morphine after a surgery on my ankle. And ever since then I've had a problem with my breathing. I'll be doing something normal and I'll go to take a deep breath and a sudden pain sharply darts the middle of my back more to the upper part. This only started happening after my over dose. As well as my breathing suddenly gets shallow easily.
Avatar m tn functioning? and the apneatic events will subside? Because prior to taking the morphine, I had no trouble breathing at all, and I think since its a major respatory depressant, it was affecting my subconscious 24/7 breathing making it slower along with my need of oxygen. Now that the levels are different, my intake has to change resulting in apneas at night?
Avatar f tn Morphine slows down your respiratory system and in large enough doses, stops the breathing all together. - learned this from experience with my sister who was signed up with hospice.
Avatar f tn Second - is this a short acting (SA) or is it a long acting (LA) Morphine? 60mgs of Morphine is one heck of a one time dose. I would not take it. There could be serious complications, especially if you your system is opiate naive. Don't take it.
Avatar m tn t give him the morphine. It could constrict his breathing. Instead, take him to a vet. He will need pain killers specially for dogs, such as Metacam, or Rimadyl or something else perhaps. He will also need his condition fully checked out.
Avatar f tn Oh no, sorry to hear about your dog. Is the fast breathing an new situation? It sounds like you were at the vet recently? Why do they say this is happening? What about your dog's tongue color? Is it pink or darker? A darkish color might be a sign that she isn't getting enough oxygen. But if she had gastritis, she may just take a bit of time to feel better./ Try bland food like boiled hamburger and rice. And really, what is most important is hydration. Is she drinking water?
Avatar f tn 1. An adverse effect/Allergy to the morphine or 2. The morphine should have NOT been used for the particular pain you were having when you presented to the ER. Morphine is NOT the best choice for all pain. Oh yes, the CT contrast, yuk!! Yes, had to drink this myself and have given it to numerous patients; it is awful. Unfortunately, it is needed for better views of the abdomen. How are you feeling now?
Avatar m tn 29 yr female, no hx of clotting or helth issues, diagnosed with a bilateral, multi clot, multi site PE last week. Was admitted to hospital with chest pain 10/10, shortness of breath x 4 days. My D-dimer test was very elevated and my ct scan showed the multiple sites, multiple clots. I had constant severe chest pain on my left side the day I was admitted,(stayed inpat 24 hrs) which eased some over the next 2 days with pain medication. Was given Heprin and warfarin.
Avatar f tn (1) Methadone affects respirations. A person on methadone will have a slighty-less that optimal resting breathing rate. The body, unfortunately uses breathing to maintain acid-base balance by blowing off carbon dioxide, Thus, the long term methadone user is likely to have a blood PH that varies from the ideal. The human heart functions best within a very narrow range of PH and varience increases the chance of ventricular fibrillation.

466909 tn?1207568232 In the case of a Morphine overdose, where a hospital is concerned that the high dose of Morphine may be dangerous (depressing breathing and heartrate), they may administer Naloxone (an opiate antagonist). The Naloxone finds its way to your opiate receptors and "competes" with Morphine for binding of the receptors. Because Naloxone has a higher affinity for the receptors than Morphine, the Naloxone will generally win out, replacing much of the Morphine at the receptor sites.
1655240 tn?1302038830 I was taking 90 mg of IR Morphine for the last 4-5 years. For the last 8 months I have been lowering my dose. As of a few months ago I was down to 15 mg a day. 2 days ago I quit. I am having quite a lot of symptoms of w/drawel. How long does it last to get thru it. I am 50, disabled and poor. I cannot go to a detox and I refuse to be addicted to any meds. Now that I realize that I was-- am even more determined to get it out of my system.

Avatar f tn I rarely see anything about morphine or ms contin on the addiction forums. Does anyone know why? Is Morphine not used? Is morphine easy to stop taking? Does it have any withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar n tn Kadian is a Morphine derivative. If he starts acting strange, call 911. That is quite a high dose, I don't care how big he is. Don't take any chances, make the call if you suspect anything.

Avatar f tn I have a really bad STABBING BREATHING TAKING pain between my right shoulder blade and my spine. I have seen 2 doctors have had X-rays, MRI, bone testing, ultra-sound, gone and had shots, therapy, chircpratic treatments, heat packs, ice packs, sleeping on the floor, in the bed with a pillow between my knees, a flatten pillow, a thick pillow, and who knows what else.
Avatar m tn Hi Adam, Please pardon my tardy Welcome to our Pain Management Community. I'm sorry to hear about your increased medical issues since April. The literature states, "You should not take morphine if you have severe asthma or breathing problems." Indeed Morphine is known to trigger asthma in some ppl. Actually morphine can trigger an attack because of histamine release. Histamine is a potent bronchocontrictor thus has the potential to induce an asthma attack.

Avatar n tn I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant and was in so much pain with back muscle spasms that I went to the ER the other night. Once I was there the pain progressed to my upper abdomen causing difficulty breathing and I kept puking maybe from the pain. I'm allergic to morphine so the only pain meds they gave me was a percocet which I puked up about an hour later. I have since stopped puking but I still have pain I think this baby is laying on my diaphragm. Anyone have any advice?
Avatar f tn I was able to shorten attacks by implementing controlled breathing exercises. Good luck with your attacks hon. You have my sympathy!
Avatar n tn I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome so I take a great deal of pain meds including morphine. I have been having a great deal of problems so I went to the gastro doctor and he did an endoscopy about 6 weeks ago and he said my stomach, esophagus, and upper instestine are all very inflamed. I also had a "thin" spot on my esophagus that he took a biopsy of as well. He said all the biopsies came back negative for cancer and that he believes the "thin" spot was from gastric acid.
1922017 tn?1322950689 The best way I can describe the feeling is to compare it to when I was at the emergency room and the doctor gave me a shot of morphine. You feel a very strong, warm feeling spread throughout your body. This is what I feel every night while going to sleep. It is, actually, just as strong a feeling as the morphine shot. Generally, it would happen a couple times over about a 10 minute period, mixed with all sorts of skipped and abnormal heartbeats, and I would fall asleep.
Avatar f tn I filled the prescription, and they made me sick, dizzy, and repressed my breathing at night to the point of being afraid to sleep. I was back to the dr. in 3 days to go back to the hydros. Are the withdrawls worse from the oxicodone? I would think so because they are pure morphine, I think. In the meantime, I am going to read up on the health section here to help with withdrawls. I will not go cold turkey, my blood pressure goes up too high and the anxiety is unbearable.
Avatar n tn Is Pholcodine a morphine based drug? I took some cough syrup yesterday, I thought my cold was making me feel sleepy and very dizzy but during the night I felt very sick too.
