3112530 tn?1434032033 I have got to understand why after about 8 hours, the 'itches' kick in. It is extremely annoying. I take Benedil for the 'itches' and it seems to stop them sometimes. Can anyone tell me what causes the 'itches' and what is the best effect to counteract this? My morphine is only 15mg and I try t take it every 12 hours but when the "itches" kick in, (usually about 8 hours later), I take another and it seems to stop.
653169 tn?1303446369 I do know that all to often things like this are not listed as side effects. The problem is that the doctors and or patients do not report them and so they too often get looked over as is the case here. I am sure there are many documented cases they just are not reported. I am not sure what the protocol is far as doctors reporting side effects but we as Pt's can call the pharmaceutical company and report effects. this will help many.
Avatar f tn My question is does the morphine make you really nauseated and throw up. The last few days the side effects have slowed down, but I would still like to hear some suggestions from people in the forum.

Avatar n tn Hello, Fatigue and dry mouth and dyspepsia are frequent side effects of Vesicare but it is unlikely to cause any sore throat. Your sore throat can be due to some viral infection. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and use over-the-counter throat lozenges. Salt water gargle is also a good way to relieve a sore throat. In addition, you can take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen) after consulting your general physician.

Avatar f tn Sorry to confuse - I can take the co-codamol which is 8mg of codeine phosphate and 500mg of paracetamol (side effects managable) but the 30mg of codeine phosphate with 500mg of paracetamol causes bad side effects, similarly 30mg of straight codeine phosphate causes bad side effects. Added complication is that I also need to be able to function well enough to drive and work.
Avatar f tn Have you talked with you NP about the Morphine as yet? I did some research and some of the top side-effects with the Morphine are Headaches and Drowsiness and dizziness and being light-headed. There are many more than that but those are the ones that were at the top. I don't know if that helped you or not BUT I hope that it did. I really think you might want to consider talking to your NP about switching your BT meds.
Avatar n tn Through that feeding we found out my daughter has a horrible allergy to soy. Because I had bf her later and she took in morphine, she was unable to fully vomit the soy formula out and got very sick. She ended up jaundiced. The meds they give you to turn your bowels off really worked on me and I had to take another med to turn them back on. The was more painful than my decision to forgo pain meds for my daughter's sake. I had to be taken care of.
2030686 tn?1351688548 I started double therapy yesterday and I just wanna make sure my sides are normal.. I had the chills from time to time, but I was hot more. What I'm concerned about is my legs and hips hurt so bad I could barely walk. I 'm on a high dose of vicodin and it didn't seem to touch this pain. I had a small amount of chest pain on the left side, but it was mild pain and didn't last long. I took a hot bath for my legs and it helped for a little while, but the pain came back.
Avatar n tn She is also taking Simvastatin and an anti-depressant, Citalopram, and an amphetamine for ADHD. Is hair loss a normal side effect of these meds, and, if so, what can be done to combat the problem?
Avatar m tn yep any opiate causes respiratory depression- some worse than others and also depends on each persons physiology and their reaction to each drug. For me, morphine was the worst- i had severe breathing problems when i was taking the time release form of it. (at prescribed doses= wasnt spiking it, overusing it, crushing it or anything) But second in line for breathign troubles for me was Darvocet of all things.
Avatar m tn Welcome and Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.
Avatar f tn Thanks. I just don't want to be seen as constantly complaining and wanting to change things with the NP, but I do feel we're very close to finding the right thing. I realize I may have to put up with some side effects but I want to pick the medicine that gives me the least side effects. I didn't like the hot flashes but I most definitely would prefer those to the tiredness I'm feeling. Tuck, I started morphine as a BT not methadone. And I did have pitting edema.
Avatar f tn I have degenerative joint disease/disk disease and the pain pump was an option along with the spinal cord stimulator but these were/are a last resort for me as I have been on many drugs to control the pain. Morphine has many side effects and maybe your doctor is seeing some side effects which could be 'an answer' that is not being mentioned here. I know the opioid's did not work for my pain. Nerve blocks helped but remember the nerve does grown back over time.
608001 tn?1220385902 s effects impair mental and physical performance, relieves fear and anxiety, and produces euphoria. Morphine's effects also decreases hunger, inhibits the cough reflex, produces constipation, and usually reduces the sex drive; in women it may interfere with the menstrual cycle. Morphine's euphoric effects can be highly addictive. Tolerance (the need for higher and higher doses to maintain the same effect) and physical and psychological dependence develop quickly.
Avatar m tn SUBOXONE--- HAS anyone that has been on Suboxone ever had the side effect of uncontrollable ITCHING? Scratch till your raw? Or any other side effects that make life more difficult? I was on Suboxone for two years, off for 3 months with opiates, and now on again for a month. The itching started small after a few weeks on Sub But now I scratch everywhere there is hair and just below my knees , my back arms, and high on my butt.
Avatar m tn You should obtain the lot number of the medication and file an FDA adverse effects report on line. This is an uncommon side effect and may be batch-related.
Avatar m tn The long term effects of Morphine sulfate on the overall health of the human body. Including heart health, gastro-intestinally, and other organs. I know someone who has been taking it for at least at least 10+years. I am getting worried about this person. A few years ago he had a very bad stomach problem, and they could never figure it out. I pretty much thought it had something to do with the morphine. Any advice? He needs it for his back.
Avatar m tn Grapefruit does interfere with the metabolizing of many medicines causing adverse effects, increasing OR decreasing the effects. There are other fruits that are hybrids of grapefruit that will cause the same effect.
Avatar m tn I was had been using morphine and detoxed last month relapsed not on morphine but the like as the drs prescribe me morphine and I find the wds to be the same. The effects to me are a bit different between morphine and percodan, vicadin and tyhe like but like already said they are similiar. Throwing up, pains in joints and bones shaky shaky hands RLS depression shall I go. Heck it is bad just like any of the drugs mentioned.
Avatar f tn Also, remember any medication you take will have a list of side effects a mile long. If you search the side effects of any pill on the internet of course it will scare the you know what out of you. For example, if I looked up the potential side effects of the Motrin I took yesterday, I would probably never take it again. Of course there are risks to anything we put into our body, but your doctor compares the risks vs. benefits of the drug when prescribing it to you.
Avatar m tn Trying to figure out why this new pain specialist that I went to..to get off methadone would change me to morphine instead of lower my doses of methadone. It's been awful for me. He just seems to get too upset when I tell him I can't take the morphine and he has just continued to increase it. Then put me on fentany patches. I've told him over and over I don't want to continue on the morphine. He just kept saying that this didn't make any sense.
