Avatar f tn How hard on the liver is morphine I was just told 1/4 of my liver is gone. and the viroal count is over 17 million.
Avatar n tn so I just researched the oxy, the vicodin, and all the rest...as they relate to the liver AND fibrosis and/or HCV....and the more I read......the more scared I got. SO, so far, the literature is suggesting more increase in fibrotic activity, I'd be reluctant to say any pain medication is "liver friendly" at this point. Even though everyone keeps parading that same tired standard "two grams a day of tylenol is safe for liver patients"....
Avatar f tn Hi I was on Lortab tens for 8 yrs I have had a new dr and she is great for the last 9 yrs along the way she changed me to morphine 50/2mg E/R capsals twice a day (every 12 hrs)I know that loratab has Tylenol at a dose of 325mg and Tylenol goes thru your liver but what about morphine I was told it goes in to my blood stream is this true I had liver cancer in 1981 so I am trying to protect my liver and I have stage 3 kidney disease on the low end of stage 3 I also take flexeril 10 mg 3 a day but I
Avatar f tn If the stage of your liver disease is unknown determining what is safe to take is not possible. What meds a patient can take safely is based on the stage of liver disease and any other health conditions a patient may have. Your doctor should know what is safe or unsafe for you as they know your medical history and we don't.
Avatar n tn Quite a risk of addiction, if you ask me, especially considering the long acting release and the potential for abuse Someone said that OTC drugs were safer for the liver. Tylenol can be obtained OTC and is deadly to the liver if taken in too large a dose. The NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, etc.) are bad for the kidneys and also the liver if you have hepc.
489207 tn?1208995999 My liver and spleen are enlarged. My liver is 15.4 and shows hyperechoic areas. My spleen is also enlarged, but I am unsure of the exact size. Both are very sore all the time and I also feel back pain. I am a Type II diabetic. My hepatic panels are also elevated. I have had ultrasounds and CT scans and both show a general enlargement and no reason for my pain. In the last week (before I knew about the exact measurements), I have had chills, nausea and bloody stools.

Avatar f tn I have been very sick for the past few years. I have chronic abdominal pain and have been taking time release morphine as well as Norco for pain. Currently I am on 150 mg twice a day of morphine and approx 10 norco's a day. I would like to cut out the norco mainly because I have liver problems on top of everything else and I want to see if stopping the norco could help my organs function better. I have a lot of doctors and am also seeing a few specialists.
Avatar n tn Like he has dementia. We dont know what to do. He is too weak for interferon and will probably need a liver sooner or later. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing or know what I am talking about.
Avatar f tn 2 years ago when he had his first seizure and went into the hospital he found out he ha end stage liver disease. He was given 6 months to live, that was 2 years as, he never stopped drinking or took any of the medication.
557111 tn?1219712047 t been taking enough percs long enough to cause any damage to your liver. (unless you had a liver disease before you started taking percs) My father has taken a pretty heavy dosage of percocet every day for the last 25 years, and his liver functions are still fine. The percs have had little to no effect on his major organ function in 25 years. If that's why your doctor switched you to morphine, it's a little premature.
Avatar f tn • Placing a tube into the area to remove large volumes of fluid (called a large volume paracentesis) • Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), which helps reroute blood around the liver Patients who develop end-stage liver disease, and whose ascites no longer respond to treatment will need a liver transplant.
Avatar f tn My ex-husband passed away from liver and kidney failure due to drug use and alcohol and was abusive to me. I had 2 small children so I divorced and left to survive. We did go to the hospital for the girls to see him a last time and could hear him screaming at ppl as soon as we hit the door. I just wondered if this is part of the personality or personality and the end stages of this disease? Thank you ahead of time, even a small amount of opinions might help.
Avatar f tn Yes, they are safe. Most of us with cirrhosis commonly have an endoscopy and colonoscopy every year or so to screen and monitor the status of our varices. I have taken miralax many times with no adverse effects. What can more problematic is any anesthesia type drug(s) you may be given. I assume this procedure is being performed by your gastro and she/he is aware of your cirrhosis?
Avatar f tn I just finished my meds Jan 24th and have been on morphine sulfate and oxycodone for 7 yrs. I have been undetected since week 4. I'm not sure about the Dilaudid but see no reason to go off the mscontin , But I am not a Dr. and not sure what meds you will be on. They told me no nsaids ,no Tylenol and no Prilosec. Please check with your Dr.. I wish you all the luck I can to reach svr.
Avatar f tn E and was given morphine and blood tests which came back with elevated liver enzymes and a high white blood cell count, as soon as the pain subsided I was sent home and told to go and see my GP, he has taken more blood samples and told me to come back to him in 2 weeks time, I'm worried sick what this could be, I did ask my doctor if it could be something serious and he just said lets hope not, other than the mild pain in upper stomach and nausea I have no other symptoms, has anyone any idea
1084115 tn?1385228589 Narcotic Analgesics (Includes Oxycodone) ↔ Liver Disease Severe Potential Hazard, High plausibility Applies to: Liver Disease Narcotic (opioid) analgesic agents are extensively metabolized by the liver, and several of them (e.g., codeine, hydrocodone, meperidine, methadone, morphine, propoxyphene) have active metabolites that are further converted to inactive substances.
Avatar n tn Nothing related to Hep C is ever simple....so there may well be multiple causes for the itching. Like...reduced skin hydration, which affects the epidermal barrier providing more chances for toxins and allergens to enter defective skin. Also, pH changes within the skin may activate itch receptors.
Avatar f tn t use NSAIDS anymore, and I get nervous using Tylenol due to the risk of liver damage and that only does do much. Gyn has no problem writing me Tramadol, which works great. 50-100 mg but it is a painkiller so you can't drive after taking it.
5611452 tn?1370971104 compensated (liver still works), decompensated (liver begins to not perform functions), and End Stage Liver Disease (ESLD - liver begins to fail, person will die without a transplant). No one knows how long these different stages and phases will last. It varies. I think you may have beginning decompensated cirrhosis, which is "stage 4" or f-4, but I think your liver is still performing it's essential functions fairly well.
Avatar f tn Like mammaglow, I am also on the Morphine ER and lesser immediate release tabs that I take in between. I am in my 8th week of treatment and my doc says that the Morphine is fine to take. I think one of the things to watch for is that alot of pain meds have alot of acetaminophen in them and that in high doses will affect the liver. If you need to be on pain meds try to get something that is more of the straight meds and have less of the additives that will affect the liver.
Avatar f tn I live with them daily--I have Lyme Disease. I have many symptoms of Lupus and MS, but my dx is chronic inflammatory disease. I have been treating this disease with the Marshall Protocol with great success for 2 years, and am able to get by with intermittent mild pain and no pain meds. I need to stay off pain meds because of liver issues. My devastating migraines completely disappeared once I started the Protocol. Go to www.curemyth1.com or www.marshallprotocol.com for more information.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your help. I'm not worried about viral load as I'm aware it doesn't increase liver damage. It was our doctor that said I'd contracted it from my boyfriend, as I'd been tested due to a needle stick injury a couple of years earlier and been negative, and his liver damage is far more advanced than mine. He was a drug user in the past, and had std tests done when we met, but they don't include Hepatitis unless you specifically ask.
Avatar f tn I took ZanaFlex for 4 months and had a rise in my liver enzymes from always being around 15-20 to a AST, 44 and a ALT of 60 after 5 weeks I was retested and my liver enzymes went to AST of 33 and ALT 52 , My Question is how long until I can expect until my liver enzymes return to normal and I don’t drink alcohol and do not have Hepatitis or HIV, my other liver function is all normal should I get a ultrasound?? How much damage did this drug to for 4 months??
