Avatar m tn Wel this is just my pinion, and others may not agree, but I'd say as long as he doesn't appear to be feeling any pain, and is still getting some happiness and quality of life, hang in there with him. Gradually declining desire for food is typical of the "hospice" -or end of life process -situation in most animals. They slowly give up the things of life which were so needed when they were fit.
Avatar f tn My Mom is in end stage COPD and CHF and it has been a battle of "wills" and "won'ts" between my sisters and my mothers care....My Mom is on Hospice care and I believe in there "mission" for "comfort care" but my sisters think that my Mom is/will become a "drug addict" (my Mom can be given Morphine and Ativan if her respirations get too high... (and my Mom has been having respirations up into the 40's - normal is between 18 to 20....
Avatar f tn i wish you lots of hope and harmony and peace . dont look at it as if its the end of your life look at it to be stronger for yourself !!!
Avatar n tn I've been on suboxone for 3 years. 16 mg grams or so every day for 3 years. I had taken off from my clinic for my 1 year old surgery then we went to Gatlinburg. Needless to say I couldn't believe it They kicked me out. I've been an addict since I was 17 and I'm almost 31. Ayways about the.
Avatar f tn At this point in time whenever a migraine comes on I have to go to the Emergency Room, and I am well known there, I get a shot of Zofran for nausea and a shot of either Demerol or Morphine, but it happens so often that I am unclear on the aftereffects and I am breastfeeding so what harm is it doing to my new baby?? I guess I just don't know what to do anymore!!
Avatar m tn For me, I have made mistakes with my dogs over the years, and one in particular I kept alive for too long - bless her, she was almost 20yrs old, completely blind, completely deaf, and had bad arthritis too ... her quality of life was very poor, but it still took me a year to decide to put her out of what misery she was in. I feel it was entirely selfish on my part, but it was such a hard thing to do.
Avatar f tn I showed up 5 hours ago and her bp was 114/40 Hr 100 o2 was 88 puples are non reactive to light and are the size of pin heads BG 7.7. Now bp is “normal” 131/65 hr has spiked to 135 and as low as 60 o2 levels have been sitting around 30-40. Chest sounds like a cat purring. BG 19.9 She has a DNR and we are just waiting it out. I guess my question is there a “normal” clinical picture of how someone shuts down? I’m just so surprised someone can continue to breath at 30% o2.
Avatar f tn The half-life of morphine is approximately 3 hours. By definition, this means that body stores of morphine will decrease by 50% every 3 hours.....regardless of how much morphine is in the body. If there is 50mg of morphine in the body, 25mg (50%) will be lost in 3 hours; if there is only 2mg of morphine in the body, only 1mg (50%) will be lost in 3 hours. Note that in both cases, morphine levels drop by 50% during an interval of one half-life.
Avatar m tn I have become physically dependent on MS Contin which is the same type of med as oxycontin only Morphine is the narcotic instead of oxcycondone. I was prescribed this as a pain control medication for 2 years at which time they diagnosed my condition which required surgery. After surgery I now feel I don't need this strong pain med any longer and my other pain can be handled by a weaker pain med like percocet.
Avatar f tn insurance I have two different forms of arthritis ,but because of my no insurance status...i have no "doctor" prescribed pain management. I have regimened myself up to 30 mg. of morphine daily for over a year. This is coming to a abrupt end. Im not sure how im going to handle the kick. Ive got two days, then nothing!!! How can i lesson my W/D symptoms?
Avatar f tn theres no half life after 5 days
Avatar m tn Xanax wont help with energy and depression and it is making you more tired and the same is true with morphine. Try tapering the Xanax then go with a stimulant to help with daily energy (something like Adderall if you want amphetamines and Modafinil if you don't want amphetamines and less side-effects). Managing a healthy diet rich in complex carbohydrates rather than simple sugar, rich in Omega-3, vegetables and fruits can also help.
Avatar f tn I have a problem with my shoulder where it dislocates all the time so i end up in the E.R. allot. About 4 months ago i was given morphine before they put my shoulder back in and i developed a raised itchy rash where they had injected it on my arm. The next time i had morphine was about a month later (shoulder again) and i got a rash all over my body so they gave me an shot of antihistamine (poor spelling) and the rash went down.

Avatar f tn Second - is this a short acting (SA) or is it a long acting (LA) Morphine? 60mgs of Morphine is one heck of a one time dose. I would not take it. There could be serious complications, especially if you your system is opiate naive. Don't take it.

Avatar f tn Main thing is to just stay positive and keep pushing through and you will see the light at the end of tunnel gets brighter and brighter .
Avatar n tn No, that is NOT how hospice usually works. My Dad was on home hospice care - twice. Once when the doctors determined he was in end stage heart failure; the second time when he had cancer throughout his body. The first time the hospice workers would come by the house a couple times a week to monitor his general health and adjust his meds as needed and answer any questions/give support to him and my Mom.
Avatar m tn My dad is a 74 years old hospitalized in December 2016 from confusion for one week. The Doctors order blood work and CAT scan and found he was in the end life stages. We went to transplant center in Lexington, KY were he is not a candidate for a transplant, his MELD score is only a 10. He has lost all his upper mass and so very skinny, diarrhea, and some ascites but not a lot and has NO jaundice. What is going on, how can he look this sick with a MELD score of 10?
Avatar f tn At some point I was given through my IV a mixture of Benadryl and morphine. All of a sudden I had a feeling my throat was closing and had a hard time taking breaths. Since I was able to get some words out, it was apparent I was getting O2. The doctor checked my throat for swelling and didn't find any. I was hooked-up to a heart monitor, and the machine went nuts. I have never had this happen. What could have been the cause?
Avatar n tn and work with stroke victims , Look up water shed strokes...
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum! It's great that you want to get off all those opioids!! I don't personally have any experience with the specific drugs you are on...but you are on some HEAVY DUTY meds!! Dilaud and Fentanyl alone are VERY strong. And then add all that morphine, both IR and ER and you're gonna definitely need some help from your doctor to wean off all these meds. If you work out a plan with your dr as to which drug to taper, how much to cut your doses, etc.
Avatar f tn I'm prescribed 75mg Morphine x2 daily and 4 Norco daily [10/325 vicodine] I've been on them for years [4ish] and I'm tired of them. I've been decreasing the morphine the last few days. Last night I took 15mgs, tonight I plan on not taking it at all; I haven't taken it in the a.m. for a few days. I'm using the Norco to just take the edge off withdrawls.
Avatar f tn Still have four more herniated discs from degenerate disc and also stenosis. Lots of pain but 150mg Morphine a day does the trick. Willing to give antidepressant a try......
