Avatar f tn The biggest thing we were able to do for her was to be there and to make sure she was comfortable. Her doctor gave her morphine as needed to where she was the one who decided how much to take and how often. She was able to stay home because she had a directive in place stating that she only wanted comfort measures. After a fall, she was moved to hospice where she was able to die in peace. It was important to us that our mother make her own decisions and determine how she wanted to leave.

Avatar f tn The center is focusing on feedings and pain control. She is on morphine, fentanyl path and klonipan as well as Dilantin. She still twitches. I am thinking about calling Hospice. does she have a chance of recovering??? I don't want to be the voice of gloom in the family but I want to know when to take off work and spend more time with her. She is still coherent - just has short term memory disorder.
Avatar m tn before i was born, or course......Morphine was only giving to patients who were dying and today the doses doctors are prescribing or back pain or whatever is a crime. More natural as in what? heroin is heroin......thats what all of these pills are......just different strengths....... I m sure there are long-term effects....depending on how much is being taken ....and all that......I would try a google search. I would normally do it for you, but i am draggin a$$ mentally and physically today.
Avatar f tn So here I sit feeling helpless... Not in fear of what's to come, just scared. I weaned off of morphine for 9 months with the help of a doc. Used colonodine (howev u spell it) to help me out. It was smooth to be honest... It really messed with my personality after being on it for 3 years. I did an accidental withdrawl changing to a cheaper rx. messed up my doses and cut it in half.... thought I was dying. After 4 days did I realize what I had done.
Avatar f tn The doctors was saying he had dementia. We took him home and it took about 3 days for the affects of the morphine to wear off. And for about two years he didn't hallucinate, he just had short term memory loss. Then four weeks ago he fell. He broke his shoulder blade and a rib at home. We took him to the hospital and they gave him morphine and the hallucinations were back. I swore that the morphine was making him hallucinate but the doctors said it was dementia.

Avatar m tn My mom is dying from anapalastic thyroid cancer. She has been on a morphine pump for a little over a week. She stopped food and water intake a couple of days ago. Her kidneys and liver have started to fail. (this we know from information from our wonderful hospice nurse) I was wondering how long on average a person will survive once their food and water intake stops?
Avatar f tn She was able to sit and watch television... And I understand that she is dying. But she is not experiencing any retractable abdominal pain. With this increased dose of morphine she out, all the time. She looks dead. She barely arouses when we change her diaper. She is the worse I have ever seen her, and my mother looks bad a lot of the time. Is this a correct assessment by the hospice nurse, to have increased her morphine to such an amount?
Avatar f tn metal plate in his back , head and multiple surgerys on his back and what not. he was on oxy/morphine and other hard PKs for a long time. He also got sick of the dependancy and the side affects of the narcotics. so he switched to methadone to try n get off. Unfortunatly when he did methadone wasent as widley known and used and he was miss dosed after some time of miss use he passed in his sleep due to his lower GI bleeding out in his sleep.
1929972 tn?1328548262 I too found out 8 months ago my mom was dying of cancer and it caused a MAJOR relapse in me. I was taking about 160mg a day myself. Im so so sorry for what your going through! Dont beat yourself up over this though. We addicts have a hard time dealing with emotions and when something this big hits up we just dont know how to handle it except reaching for our "crutch" The most important thing is that you are here now, looking for help and wanting to get off these things!
1718998 tn?1309129406 I have been taking morphine abg 100 mgs twice a day for 2 years nows and im prescribed klonopin 2 mg 3x daily to = 6 mgs a day. it helps when i dont take all the morphine my body is used to, an i really hope it helps next week when i quit. i have some hydro 7.5s i have 6 of them to help with withdrawls, will they help?
Avatar m tn I was taking 3-4 100mg ms contin and 8-10 30 mg msir a day.
Avatar n tn I have suspected and confronted him a month or so back b/c I thought he had been high on morphine- which he had easy access to. He said he though he must be having a stroke. He went to the er and they found nothing. They said there was a chance it was i TIA but were not sure. He had been caring for his mother who was on liquid morphine. His mother has now passed and we were sharing a hotel room. We both woke up had coffee, we'd both been up for about 1 and half-hours.
Avatar m tn Normally the anxiety resolves itself within a few weeks but this time it has persisted and continues on. Could it be caused by the morphine? This is my thought but the pharmacist said he didn't think it was. Also my doctor is suggesting 8 tylenol a day to replace the morphine. I am so skeptical of it being adequate though I know I can manage less than the 60 mg of morphine now. What are your thoughts?
570405 tn?1216957944 She is on 150mg of time-released morphine a day, and ora-morph and oxycodone for pain spikes and breakthrough pain. She is still crying and screaming much of the time for the pain. Her heart beats so rapidly at such times that it does not complete each beat and her blood pressure drops (tachycardia)--making her look over medicated due to lack of O2 to her brain, when in fact just the opposite is true with regard to the pain medication.
Avatar n tn I am not sure what the circumstances are that surround your situation, but I do know that strokes are caused by a blood clot or a brain bleed. My mom just had 2 strokes and they actually gave her a morphine pump for her head because it hurt so bad. I do not think they would have done that if there was a chance it would cause more strokes. Keep doing your research though, I guess you never know!
Avatar f tn I rarely see anything about morphine or ms contin on the addiction forums. Does anyone know why? Is Morphine not used? Is morphine easy to stop taking? Does it have any withdrawal symptoms?
1751415 tn?1315069443 Hello! I wanted to thank you for the information on Morphine. I neglected to mention that it was not the hospice nurse but the nurse from the nursing home. We will mention this. I know that they use a Fentanyl (hope I'm spelling it correctly) patch and morphine by mouth. They were giving him the patch with Vicodin but I guess because his pain was increasing they switched to Morphine. We are due to have a conference this week. Again, thank you!
Avatar f tn I would be on the safe side and go get checked out. Morphine is a really strong drug especially if your pregnant.hope it all turns out good.
Avatar f tn Still have four more herniated discs from degenerate disc and also stenosis. Lots of pain but 150mg Morphine a day does the trick. Willing to give antidepressant a try......
Avatar m tn Morphine is a terrible one to quit ct....and I doubt that the Doc would want to prescribe enough Norco's to do the job...make certain the taper is long and slow....nausea and vomiting are solid w/d symptoms. Stay well hydrated unless you like your fluid I.V. - most of the MS prescribed outpatient these days is MSContin - morphine sulfate continuos release.
Avatar f tn He was very nice and helpful. He gave me morphine extended release 30mg tables and I need to take those 3x a day. I asked him about pregnancy and this medication. He said that there is always a chance of compilations. He said he has seen several patients that have gotten pregnant on this medication, some have tapered off of it and some continued to stay in this medication.
1148698 tn?1261715542 Hi..I'm new here and hoping that someone might be able to answer this question. Can Elavil be used as an effective means to releive morphine withdrawl symtoms? I'm about to go down that road and I know the agony of withdrawl from morphine and don't want to go through it again...or at least as bad as it was before. I have decreased my morphine intake from 150mg a day down to 90mg within two days.
