Hi, welcome to the forum, your history is suggestive of that you are having drug allergy to morphine. Some patients have reported to have itching (in more than 10%), rash and development of hives. The possibilities for allergy are due to presence of Phenanthrene in opioids. You can even develop hypersensitivity reactions to other phenanthrene derivative opioid agonists (codeine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, levorphanol, oxycodone, oxymorphone).
As for the codeine, ten miligrams x 19 pills are equal to 190 mg. of codeine a day. I am on 120 of codeine and 1200 mg. of acetomenophene. [Did I spell that right?] In time the acetomenophene toxifies the liver. If taken in high doses [somewhere between 4000 and 7000] I have heard that it can do this instantly. I have tried to cut down the four T'3's a day but find myself almost impossible to live with. My blood pressure goes very high from stress.
Or at the very least the meds are working for you and you and able to enjoy some of your time and day's. I was on morphine then the patch and morphine now just morphine and 4-6 times a day but even that's not enough as I could take one pill then another within an hour. I definitely understand with you about the not being able to sleep and needing meds.
Sorry to confuse - I can take the co-codamol which is 8mg of codeine phosphate and 500mg of paracetamol (side effects managable) but the 30mg of codeine phosphate with 500mg of paracetamol causes bad side effects, similarly 30mg of straight codeine phosphate causes bad side effects. Added complication is that I also need to be able to function well enough to drive and work.
It was night time that I would wait until everyone went to bed and then sit there and down up to 30. I needed to be able to go to bed and just fall asleep in a second and thats what they did for me. My husband was aware of the addiction as he use to find empty packets all over the house, but until I told him, he was totally unaware of the extent of the addiction. If I didn't have any tablets I would start to panic, then my mood would be unpredictable and a little agro.
I saw my ortho surgeon today and she said I basically developed an allergy to hydrocodone - she said it can happen to anyone with anything at anytime even if you have been exposed to that "thing/substance/whatever" for years and years. So, she switched me to oxycodone, or percoset.
Migraine - evening - Was one step lower in intensity and used tylenol with codeine Migraine - continued evening - One step lower yet in intensity and chose Advil. Hoping that going to sleep with Advil will help it go away .. hate to use prescription meds unless I have to .. it's always a gamble at this point.
I have a boulding disk and recently the doctor prescribed me Hydrocodone and i only took those for two days and I stopped taking them. can that medicine be the reason for my symptoms?
to keep my eyes closed the sides effects said all of this and more yet the ER dr did not beleive my symptoms were related to this treatment since i am allergic to LOTS of stuff no morphine no codeine no loritab and now no Iontophoresis Dexamethasone would love to know what you think my arm felt great for 4 days but i dont dare do this again..
It does have weird effects, for some. Morphine is named after the Greek (think) God of dreams, so horrible and for some good dreams are a well known, side. My Mom was sensative to it also. Now picture this, I am barely awake in ICU at walter reed, I had been intubated, I had lung tubes to drain them on both sides, they are about the size of little suitcases. I have a a cast and three metal plates in my left arm, a cast and calcaneal fracture on my right leg, so I am lopsided.
Her drug reaction was major and scary--and from just 30mg codeine! I know two friends with MS who have been allergic to several drugs--antibiotics are the worse because everntually they run out. Hi, Shell--thanks for missing me.
It is a narcotic but a different schedule than morphine or hydrocodone b/c it is not nearly as potent, it has a very different chemical structure than most other opiates. It's also a partial agonist to your opiate receptors. Morphine and codeine are full agonists. Hydrocodone is a partial agonist also but is more potent than codeine. And yeah Ultram binds to some of your serotonin receptors also. An increase in serotonin has been known to aid in pain for many people. xoxo- D.
My husband is taking both of the pills listed above and is buying them from dealers. It has been going on over 3 years now and has really gotten expensive. He has HepC and I have told him how damaging this is to take these pills with his liver disease. He says that he can't work the way he does without them because they give him energy. I am starting to see the sudden outburst of anger. Especially if I say anything about the pills.
I called my doctor and they said that it sounded like I had a food allergy or I was dehydrated, but after reading this sight I am convinced that it was a migrain. I am 6 weeks pregnant, so am thinking hormones may have triggered it.
In a recent allergy testing, I tested positive for 74 out of 77 allergens. I react negatively to many drugs, such as PNC, Codeine, Morphine, Sulfa drugs, etc. I just had a recent bout with a cold that left me with a cough for 2.5 months, after three rounds of antibiotics, and other numerous medicines. It was determined that the cold set me up for my allergies to kick in, then the extreme coughing caused acid reflux, therefore more coughing.
There have had to have been folks out there that needed emergency surgery with an allergy to opioids and the doctors had to have had a workaround...I would think. But I doubt it was as effective as opiates for pain. They could have been kept in a medically induced coma until some of the healing from the surgery transpired. But honestly, I don't know for certain.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
Thanks for the input (and correct spelling of Talwin). I've read the same info. about Talwin (I take the Tawin Nx), and how it compares to morphine and the codeine drugs. For now, it's what I can take, and although I'm not happy with the constipation and occasional itchiness, it is the safest pain med. for me. I'm sure there are other meds.
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
Not only is it difficult to distinguish heroin or morphine abuse from codeine, but dietary poppy seeds can give a strong positive result for urinary opiate of several days duration that is confirmed by GC/MS analysis". Nyquil Nighttime Cold Medicine will test positive for Methadone up to two days. Antibiotics. Certain newly developed antibiotics have cause positive samples urine tests. Ampicillin is suspect. Amoxicillin has caused positives for cocaine.
well crude! I never thought about it being more of a problem with the cipro then the vicodin. I have ONLY 3 antibiotics I can take, cipro, bactrum and clyndamycian. I am allerigic to everything else!!! I also can NOT take morphine, demerol, darvaset, percaset, and codine so I would really hate to lose the vicodin too. ugh!
I have always thought 'hives' were an allergic reaction, many things from plants to chemicals etc Both our kids get hives from certain washing poweders, oh and DD gets full body hives from morphine and the coating on a lot of medications. She's been able to avoid most of the drugs that are her known triggers but if she has to take something unknown, she also takes an antihystamine as a preventative, it mainly works. And thats all i can come up with, hope some of it adds food for thought.
I have been having a sharp burning pain in my upper back mostly on the left side by the shoulder blade. At times my neck and left arm are effected too. The pain is present upon rising and lasts throughout the day. I am concous of my posture and do not believe it to be the cause. The pain worsens if i am carring anything at arms lengths or even if i am carring a light bag over either of my shoulders.
and I was taking over the counter meds like severe cold and allergy ...Allegra allergy meds , I am not even sure other than my regular prescribed meds that they even included the prescription cough syrup the themselves prescribed to me ...well they said we will notify the lab and call you back tomorrow ...
It is wonderful to know I can come here and speak to others, though I have a wonderful husband that also suffers from terrible pain and is so understanding and comforting. I saw my doctor today who was very kind and understanding and decided to up the morphine and if that doesn't work, maybe combine the contin with ultram, but this was his first choice. So far, so good. I'll be in touch. You are all in my prayers. My blessings to u all. Optimus, thanks for all your feedback, keep in touch.
