I was paranoid and taking 8 mg every 3 hours and 3 mg of ativan daily. I wanted to die and spent my days sobbing and rocvking on the couch,. I went to my local ER and they did not know how to taper me off the dilaudid. I went to Lahey clini where an ER doc gave me the name of a doc who speicialized in this and within 3 days at a hospital was detoxed. This was Mid October. Now I am suffering from severe abdominal and sever back pain. I went to a pain clinic.
Zofran, Ativan, Phenergan, Vistaril, Kytril, etc... Zofran being the best and most expensive Second being kytril and ativan. Kytril is expensive so if you don't have health insurance Ativan (Lorazepam) is a better option.
Bottom line give the medicine some time 2-3 months at the most or switch to Dilaudid, there's also Fentanyl patches...
t know how many ambien as well as some tylonol3 i think, on top of his regular meds of hydrocodone and morphine! AND HE is angry at me because I took all his meds away and throuhg the ativan away....we are both in recovery or at least I thought we were....I don't know the best track to take concerning this situation...right now he hates me.
I have a 17 year old daughter who suffers from Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome and severe anxiety and panic attacks. She takes 1 mg of Ativan twice a day if needed when she feels an episode coming on or if an episode has started. In the past 9 weeks she has taken approximately 20 ativan when she was having an episode of vomiting or panic.
The muscles in my bicep, tricep and forearm would tense. The arm would clench, the music would stop and POP, the arm would fly up and out, as if trying to right hook an opponent who wasn't there. Every 60 seconds for two hours -- until just before 3:45 -- I'd swing away into the dark.
Until the left arm got in on it. By 7:30 in the morning, I wasn't a championship boxer, I was a retarded pigeon with defective wings.
I read about the serious side effects when Valerian Root and and a benzodiazepine (like Ativan, Valium, Xanax) are combined in a Anxiety Disorder book I had when I was having severe anxiety while back. My psychiatrist prescribed Valium for sleep and Xanax for panic attacks and anxiety during the day. She told me to never take them together even though they were in same class of drugs.
OK so I was oxycodone, and morphine for work accident, and messed up my back. Long story short I decided I wanted to be off. It was pure hell, and I should have told my doc. When seeing her, I was feeling better but no sleep.
She gave me 1mg Adivan to take 3 times a day. I did, but could not sleep, so took 4 more at night and nothing maybe a cat nap. I've been on these things for 3 days, and did have a drink with my buddy who just had a baby.

The vicodin will prolong the withdrawals. Your body simply converts Vicodin into morphine, chemically there's little difference in most opiates. Strength and time release is the main difference. You're not at an extremely high dose and morphine is fast acting, so it should leave the body pretty fast also. You're 2 days in, hunker down and wait it out. You'll start feeling better in a few days. Vitamins, minerals, and amino acids help a lot.
I would just sit down and be Honest with her and tell her of your fears and concerns.. That you love her and you do not want her to waste the life she has left in a drug induced stupor.. The last few days of my mom's life she was on so much morphine she was not with us I do not hold this against her as the multiple myeloma was so painful but it never hurts for your mom to hear the concern and love.. I will say a prayer and want to say I'm so sorry you are going through this..
thats alot to try to clean out of yourself at once...congrats on the decision to do that. it seems that sleep takes a while to fall back into place. if it's rls symptoms you can try hot baths (epsom salts help draw the toxins out thru your skin)...i didn't have valium, i had ativan and it didn't seem to help me much either, i know it's frustrating but i got about the same amount of sleep as you last week when i started my detox.
I tended to between getting the morphine). But I could safely take 5mg to 6 mg a day and feel productive. . My husband , a big addict also, will fall asleep for 14 hrs if he takes 1mg xanax. I felt he was like that b/c he didn't have allot of anxiety, or depression like me. I know since xanax nothing has ever calmed my heart or mind , seemed like when I stopped xanax my heart raced. did and still have the hand shakes. I knew people who got the xanax bars.
1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.

Okay, well how are you directed to take them both? Is one as needed, both as needed, and if so, how do you know when to take which? Do you take one of them regularly? It's pretty uncommon to be prescribed two short-acting benzos concurrently.
The equivalency between the two meds isn't an exact science, but per equivalency charts, approximately 0.5mg of Xanax equals 1mg of Ativan, so the Xanax is roughly twice as potent, mg to mg. Again, not an exact science.
What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption.
Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
I think the headache was from something else and not the ativan. Woke up this morning with no headache and took .25mg of ativan and no headache. We'll see what happens later today....
I'm a bit sedated right now on just .25mg. too.
