Common Questions and Answers about Montelukast asthma

singulair

Avatar n tn I took Montelukast (Singulair) for about one month and began having extreme nightmares and panic attacks. I stopped the montelukast immediately, and the nightmares stopped. But the panic attacks continue. I know others have had similar reactions, but I wonder if anyone has found out how to make the effects go away? I have been off the medication for over 3 months now.

Avatar n tn I grew up w/asthma and now my 2yo son seems to have it. We recently saw a pediatric pulmonologist who helped us tremendously. I've also spent some time reading the American Lung Assoc website. My question is related to the dark circles under my son's eyes. They're just not going away even though his symptoms have. He occasionally has a cough in the morning but nothing at night, and nothing during the rest of the day. He is off the nebulizers for now and is staying on his singulair.
Avatar f tn Only thing that works is Montair LC (montelukast) once in 24 hours. It stops my cough, breathlessness. I am not able to stop this medication and have been taking this for almost 3 months now. I have no other symptoms. I am not able to identify my allergy trigger since I cough through out the day, always, every where, though dust, artificial smells aggravate cough. Breathlessness and tightness in chest scare me. Should I check Asthma or COPD or anything else. Pl. advise.
Avatar n tn The 2 classes are 1) inhaled steroids and 2) orally administered medicines that block biochemical asthma pathways involved in asthma worsening, an example of which is Singulair® (montelukast sodium). A third group of asthma medicines commonly used are, medicines similar to Xopenex® Inhalation Solution (levalbuterol) but long acting for 8 to 12 hours. These medicines might or might not result in hyperactivity and should be the last to be considered, especially for a young child. Good luck.
Avatar f tn While in India a pulmonologist at a good hospital diagnosed me with allergies and asthma (spiro something test before and after a med). I suddenly had developed wheezing and coughing after exposure to some toxic paint plus for a couple of years when I climb stairs I am short of breath. He said to take meds for a month at one dose and for another month at a half dose and to thereafter see another pulmonologist.

Avatar m tn a month ago, ive started doing vigorous exercises which led me to be diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma. the pulmonologist gave me some medicines to take e.g montelukast, ventolin inhaler and symbicort. Xray for the sinus and chest were also ordered which resulted to bilateral nasal congestion and clear chest. The problem is, I have been experiencing symptom of dizziness. Its been a month now and I could not take it anymore. As if I am floating always.
Avatar n tn I did an Internet search and one site gave the generic name as montelukast which is sold in the U.S. under the brand name Singulair. If this is medicaiton you have been prescribed, it is not a steroid. When you say fluticone do you mean fluticasone? If so, it is an inhaled corticosteroid. Medrol is a corticosteroid. I was not able to find any information on formanide. Corticosteroids do have side effects and should not be stopped abruptly.
Avatar m tn I'm in the middle of this .... asthma drugs were working well contolling "asthma" symptoms and then they suddenly stopped and I got really sick. That was in december (flare started in october) and I still feel like crap. However I do have large lungs - way above average for my size now that I've been on advair etc. However, I did just do a methacholine challenge test (suppose to be gold standard for asthma testing) and I had a negative test, no spasm in lungs.
Avatar f tn Almost 2 full days ago I started having an asthma attack and had no methods of transportation, communication, or medication so it went untreated for 8 or 9 hours. I drove myself to the urgent care and told them about the attack and how I was having some pain at the end of my breath. They put me on a nebulizer for 10 minutes and it did not fully improve, and I told them I could not take a full, deep breath and I still had pain.
Avatar f tn Sounds like you are taking a rescue medicine for asthma. Some people are sensitive to the heart effects of this medicine and get a rapid heart beat, as you do. This rapid heart beat and shakiness that accompanies it is more of a nuisance than a real threat, unless you have underlying heart disease. That you need to take this inhaler frequently or regularly, is an indication that your asthma is not well controlled and that you should be on one or more long-acting medicines for it.
1223775 tn?1267017340 respected member, he is now treated witH KEFLEX /cephalexin/ bp 250 mg per 5 ml ,5ml dose tw times a day, and ACEFYL /acefylline piperazine/ 5ml dose three times a day.
Avatar f tn Went through a period of time when I had three sinus infections, one after another. I was diagnosed with allergy induced asthma as well although I don't take the montelukast I was prescribed. Is it possible that my nose shape has anything to do with this? Or is the redness a skin problem and the allergies environmental? Honestly, the redness bothers me more than the annoying breathing problems. I also have autoimmune thyroiditis, unsure if that is related to redness.
Avatar f tn I also take Fexofenadine and Montelukast tablets daily. The reaction seems stronger and quicker to garlic - an anaphylatic reaction and lesser to aloe vera - which only gives me face swelling and redness. Is there any way to lessen the increasing and debilitating allergic reaction? Someone has suggested hypnosis but I do not think this is a way forward as this seems to be a physiological problem. I am open to suggestions which I will ask my consultant about.
Avatar m tn I went to a doc who said it was probably asthma and prescribed formoterol/budesonide and montelukast sodium. A few months later, my bedroom was treated for termite infestation, the fumes of which I presumed cleared up after about 4 days. After returning to my bedroom for a few nights, I woke up in a panic with severe SOB.
Avatar n tn About a year ago I was at the hospital for an Asthma attack. My stats seemed fine then (BP, BPM, ETC...). Sometimes, even after sitting down for an hours (in class) I can notice my heart beat beating very loud, and even sometimes see it make a little bump in my chest as it beats. Now I am very slender, but this seems very unusual. After intense activities, my heart beat becomes distracting and I can feel it in the back of my head. It's very scary at times. I have no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I had this cough for almost three weeks now, it started with just a simple cold and turned to an all out asthma attack. Which is not new for me. I have asthma and I only have attacks when I caught a flu or cold and I usually just drink salbutamol cough syrup and it would go away after a few days. But now I had it for 3 weeks. and the doctor told me to start using an inhaler twice a day. Then I was told to take ventollin expectorant I took it but nothings happening to my cough.
Avatar m tn At January 2011, my IgE was 1923 IU/ml. I took medicines named Fexofenadine Hydrochloride 180 mg (0+0+1), Montelukast 10 mg (1+0+0) and Flixonase Nasal Spray according to doctors' advice. But I stopped continuing medicine after 2 month when I felt well. After that, I used to catch cold all the year round. At december 2011, I became ill seriouly and went to the same doctor. According to test of December 2011, my IgE is 1590 IU/ml. My doctor says, I have been suffering from Rhino-Sinusitis.

Avatar f tn So I scheduled an appointment for the surgery. While waiting on that day to arrive I had two severe asthma attacks, my first ever, which led me to seeing a pulmonary doctor. He diagnosed me with bronchitis brought on my the sinus issue and scheduled an appointment with an allergist. Than ran the allergy test with negative results. Yes, all 58 pin pokes in the back were negative and then 17 injections under the skin of my forearms all came back negative.
