Monitoring contractions during labor

Common Questions and Answers about Monitoring contractions during labor

contractions

Avatar f tn ll be mentioning some things you may want to consider for monitoring during your labor. Because the main goal of this group is to have a natural birth those things will be emphasized but I will talk about other options you may want to consider in the event of induction or cesarean. There are a few ways you are monitored while in labor. There is the monitoring of the baby's heart, your contractions, your heartbeat and your blood pressure.
Avatar f tn At 35 weeks I had bleeding however an ultra sound and monitoring of the baby was all ok.however now the doctor had said I need continual monitoring during labour now as precaution. I am very hesitant about this as I will be quite restricted in positions and movement during labor which are important to me as I would like a natural birth. Has anyone else experienced this and have any tips to help? Would monitoring via a doppler and midwife checks on a more regular basis be just as good?
4236200 tn?1352611176 When I got there the bleeding had stopped and with monitoring they seemed unconcerned about the bleeding. During the monitoring we the saw I was having contractions and so they gave me a shot to slow down them down. I was put on bed rest and told to come back if contractions continue. The problem is I can barely feel them. At first I thought those were just braxton hicks. In fact, my contractions feel a lot like when they move and reposition themselves together.
Avatar f tn No you shouldn't be worried. Nst monitoring is made track your contractions as well as babies heart rate and activity. It is completely safe.
Avatar f tn I'm wondering if you should still feel your baby move during contractions, or do they stay still? Ive been having contractions all day and I can still feel her move but shes a little more quiet than most days. Could it be the calm before the storm?
Avatar f tn t even go to the hospital until your contractions are about 3 minutes apart, and then you will still be in labor a long time (unless you are like my hairdresser who only had to labor 2 hours). The doctor will be off doing C-sections and delivering babies, he is not going to stand there waiting to catch the baby for hours and hours while you labor. You'll see him or her pretty much in the last half hour before the baby is ready to come out.
Avatar f tn Honestly, earlier on I only felt them low, and they could only pick them up on the monitors low during NST's. That was clear up until I was 32 weeks. I'm now 38 weeks, and I'm feeling them up at the top of my uterus now as you're expected to (it's how they do their training on monitoring contractions.) Just let your doctor know that's where you feel them.
479472 tn?1234048220 t let me get out of bed because I had had a p revious c-section (21 years prior) so they felt I needed 100 percent monitoring. The contractions were painful but really manageable. I turned down all pain med assistance to this point. (6pm) The doctor asked me when he came in to break my water and hook me up to internal monitors if I wanted an epidural. Now he and I had been over this before but he always kind of insists and I stuck to my "no". HOWEVER!
2194701 tn?1432394206 I went in and they monitored her and during one of my contractions her heart rate dropped. They kept us for another hour of monitoring. I had 4 more contractions in this hour and they said she was fine and we could go home. I had a dream about a week ago that the cord wrapped around her neck... I'm so worried now that it is. I have an appointment today but it scares me that she could be in danger. According to my first due date we are 38.
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized Saturday for preterm contractions. I'm getting kind of worried. They gave me morphine to relax my uterus and sent me home after monitoring for a few hours. I'm at home now, and the morphine has worn off. My uterus is starting to ache again. I'm keeping track to make sure it's not following a pattern again, but I'm worried this will turn into a constant problem or that I will end up going into labor.
Avatar f tn So last night I had some sharp pains in my back and when I went 2 the bathroom I was spotting bright red. I went 2 hospital and while they were monitoring me I started having contractions. They ended up hooking me 2 an IV and giving me a shot 2 stop the contractions. I'm now on bedrest for a few days. I'm really scared cause my back is still hurting some. I'm only 29 weeks and I have never had 2 get shot or had contractions this early b4.
Avatar n tn m 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. And they are contractions but not active labor so they sent me home. Just glad nothing was wrong!! Hope you're feeling okay, I know you're probably over it just as much as I am.
Avatar f tn I went into labor last week at 30 weeks. They gave me a shot and iv meds to stop contractions. Still monitoring my contractions a week later. If i have more than 4 in an hour i have to go back.
Avatar f tn If they are lasting longer than 30seconds, and you are having more than one an hour, I would go to the hospital for monitoring. Especially if you have a history of preterm labor. At this point there are more options for controlling preterm labor, than of your contractions continue and your water breaks. In the meantime, drink lots of water. Dehydration can cause contractions. Empty your bladder frequently, and most of all, take it easy. Lay down as much as possible.
Avatar f tn I had to stay in the hospital for 6 days they gave me meds to stop me from having contractions and gave me steroids to strengthen baby lungs and magnesium to help with baby brain development.... Now I have to go to obgyn every week for close monitoring cause my cervix dialater 2cm from labor.....
Avatar n tn At 34 weeks, it's a bit early to go into labor- is your doctor monitoring you for pre-term labor? As far as how long it takes to get to 4cm- that varies from women to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy. You could walk around for weeks at 3 or 4- or it could be an hour later and you could be at a 8 ready for delivery. Make sure to watch for signs of preterm labor- and call your doctor right away if you have them.
Avatar f tn At 11 pm hubby and I rushed to hospital since I was having real bad contractions every 5-10 min. Got admitted after monitoring my contractions and sure thing, 4 hrs later my baby girl was born. She's as beautiful as my first baby girl who is now 4.. but anyways squatting and speed walking did it for me..
Avatar f tn My daughter went for her drs appt yesterday (she is 37w1d) and since she had high blood pressure, they wanted to do some fetal monitoring in the office. She was having contractions the whole time they were monitoring her (about 1/2 hour). Now for the stupid question - - - - do both Braxton Hicks contractions and "real" contractions register on the monitor?
Avatar f tn Went home and started monitoring my contractions, when I got at 5 11 I went to the hospital, they said i 5 cm and 90 effaced. I was admitted instantly ,which was 11 pm last night. Around 3am I was 7cm and stayed that way until 10am. Shift changed at the hospital and all of a sudden they are saying I need a c section because I am at 7 cm too long. I refused and begged them to try everything possible. They inserted a catheter in my uterus and started giving my picotin.
1035252 tn?1427227833 I am overweight and I know with DD that when they had an external and internal monitor on me during labor, the internal picked up WAY stronger contractions than the external...idk, is this really happening? I'm having severe pressure as well, but the nurse just kinda hooked me up and wandered off and I don't know what they're thinking about all of this...anyone have pretty painful regular contractions that barely registered and be in real labor??
Avatar f tn So im 33 weeks 5 days have contractions on and off all day..in so much pain ...just wondering if there is away to stop the pain but not contractions? Im dilated to 1 75% efaced and midline ...lost my mucus plug about 2 weeks ago...so I know he will be here soon. .just dont want to be in pain..
644974 tn?1312758070 well 2 days ago i started getting real sharp stabbing pains in my cervix, then yesturday we went shopping (lots of walking silly me) and i was getting lots of contraction! got home at lunch went to bed but contractions woke me on and off in the afternoon the were regular for a while about 10 mins apart but not horribly painful, i mean they stopped me but not in agony.
Avatar f tn They just checked my cervix on friday Shouldnt this pregnancy be watched more carefully or special precautions taken? If it matters I went into preterm labor due to contractions and leaking fluid. After being at the hospital 10 hours I had dilated all the way and placenta abrupted.
Avatar n tn You are having signs labor, I would continue monitoring the contractions, with my son I ONLY had the contractions in my back not my tummy (back labor) sometimes you have the loose stools up to a week before delivery. IF you get to worried have the doctor recheck you. GOOD LUCK & CONGRATULATIONS!
8720413 tn?1408306012 When they were monitoring me, the heartbeat on my baby starting declining. They started an IV and an ultrasound to check the fluid pockets around babygirl. The doctor walked in and said there was no point to the ultrasound, I'm already 4 days overdue and that I was going to be induced. At 10:30, they started me on pitocin. I had contractions for two hours and then they gave me pain medication so I could get some sleep. They checked me 2 hours later and I was 4 cm dilated.
6934157 tn?1387157656 The nurse said depending what my contractions look like after monitoring she may have me walk the halls.
Avatar f tn Starting fetal monitoring every two weeks for an hour. I never had to go through this before with my other two. Does anyone know why they normally suggest this?
10401688 tn?1409861019 I'm 38 weeks contractions all night hen they stopped?
