provigil

Avatar n tn Hi there. Modafinil or provigil is a central nervous system stimulant and much abused. This can produce euphoria, it can be abused for a high sensation particularly by students as stimulants for staying up all night for exams. There are certain common side effects associated with its use like headache, dizziness, difficulty in falling asleep, drowsiness, nausea, heartburn, confusion and burning, tingling and numbness of skin. There could be certain withdrawal symptoms associated with it.
Avatar f tn To supplement the modofanil, you might want to discuss adding a shorter acting stimulant like aderall (not XR) or maybe Xyrem for deeper sleep at night?
Avatar m tn I am currently being treated for CFS with a medication called Modafinil. It’s the one medication that’s a stimulant, that’s not in the same class as Adderall or Ritalin with a very low abuse potential. It helps out a lot, but I feel while it is helping it does damage as well considering you get used to the medication and the CFS is 100 times worse then when it started. My question is this : What medical procedures are done to rule out it being an underlying medical condition ?
Avatar n tn You might need to be evaluated for narcolepsy. I have suffered from similar troubles over the last year. I take a stimulant called modafinil which has been a lifesaver. I could fall asleep at the dinner table, leaning against a wall, and even once on the phone. Now I'm not speeded up or wired in any way, just able to control when and where I sleep.
Avatar f tn t recommend the use of Dexedrine or any kind of amphetamine to be added to your dailies. There are many safer option like Modafinil that could give you the extra you need. Anyway the question here is how you can avoid depression and I don't think the answer is waiting into some kind of drug. You mentioned that you are using Xanax, which is by the way, a very sedative drug which will knock down any stimulating effect you might look for from any drug you might be taking.
Avatar m tn ve had an issue with strong and persisting heart palpitations. It occurred after misuse of an unprescribed stimulant drug (modafinil) for about a week or two. As soon as issues appeared I ceased use immediately. Main issues are a persistent strong pounding and occasional minor chest pain. I'm a male in my early twenties, no family medical issues, have gone to a GP and gotten blood pressure checked, EKG and blood tests done, no prior physical or mental health issues.
Avatar m tn Try tapering the Xanax then go with a stimulant to help with daily energy (something like Adderall if you want amphetamines and Modafinil if you don't want amphetamines and less side-effects). Managing a healthy diet rich in complex carbohydrates rather than simple sugar, rich in Omega-3, vegetables and fruits can also help.
Avatar f tn My question - after ranting (sorry)- has anyone here tried modafinil? If so - how much of a dose helps you? Any side effects? Or is there anything easier to get dr. to prescribe? Thank you for listening. But I do feel there is help on the horizon - finally after being sick without diagnosis - yes- It stinks it is MS but I am (crazy) feeling blessed they found something.
Avatar f tn I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with ADHD multiple times before. But I am doing fairly well, my interest at the moment is the people I am living with. I have 2 house mates and one child living here in my home. They are all females, and much more than house mates we are like family, please note we are absolutely in way "involved" with each other, I am 38, and they are like my daughters to me. One house mate, we shall "A" is 21, the other that we shall call "B" is 23. OMG!
Avatar m tn Added to all these the stress you are going through can be a trigger. Modafinil is a central nervous system stimulant used for the treatment of narcolepsy. It is also used for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness caused by obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome and shift-work sleep disorder. It would be better to consult your doctor before you chose to take any drug for an evaluation. Keep updating your thoughts in this section. Take care.
Avatar n tn any advice or experiences that could help me understand would be really helpful please. My brother has started university to study architecture this year and due to the huge amount of nights he had to work, started going on modafinil. Now that the year is finished and he's not taking it however, he has become aggressive, irrational and rude. Does anyone know if this is because of the modafinil or if there's a link.
Avatar m tn Hello there, Nootropic drugs like Piracetam or analeptic drug such as Modafinil could help you with this problem. A diet including Omega-3 is also to be considered.
7126533 tn?1388405470 I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?
525080 tn?1212395717 Obstructive sleep apnea could be a reason for you to wake up frequently in order to regain your breath—sometimes resulting in number of awakenings per night, many times you may not even be aware of it ending up having excessive daytime sleep because of fatigue, feeling unrefreshed after sleeping, and daytime sleep attacks at your workplace. Added to all these stress you are going through can be a trigger. Modafinil is a central nervous system stimulant used for the treatment of narcolepsy.
Avatar f tn Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!
968560 tn?1307451498 like GSDgirl, I looked it up, and it’s labeled for weight loss. Have you discussed the use of Provigil (modafinil) yet? This stuff is FDA labeled for fatigue (think fighter pilots :o)), and is supposed to be non-addictive.
Avatar f tn Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!
Avatar m tn Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.
Avatar f tn You can ask to your doctor about modafinil. It's a ''wake-promoting'', not a CNS stimulant like amphetamine, drug and used off-label as a nootropic (smart drug) due to it's positive effect on energy, memory and learning. It's impact on energy is similar to caffeine in the studies. I tried it myself and had no problem on it, better than caffeine ,in my humble opinion, and also you don't have to take it all day unlike caffeine.
5509293 tn?1428531475 Nuvigil, alerted, modafinil, Provigil are the same -as far as I understand. I am paying more than you - I have high deductible insurance but took the hit because I needed a replacement for amantadine to help with fatigue. Thought I was ok until the amantadine worked its way out of my system and then I crashed. But new drug is giving me BP problems. Is anyone taking the drug with NO BP problems? How much can you take?
Avatar m tn Not good. You definitely want to look for a specialist. Might want to scope out your throat to see if there are also problems down there. Under side effects for Nuvigil it says, "Skin and mouth sores, blistering, and ulceration have been reported with modafinil and NUVIGIL in the postmarketing setting. Recurrence of signs and symptoms of serious dermatologic reactions following rechallenge has been reported in some cases.
5160872 tn?1385248794 I am switching from Avonex to Tecifidera and from Modafinil to Symmetrel. How has these worked out for others? I am looking forward to not having the injections and being able to take pills instead.
667078 tn?1316000935 Hi Alex, I am sorry you are feeling so fatigued. It's rotten. Here is my experience. The modafinil not only works, but it's a complete lifesaver for me. I would be in big trouble without it. I started out on 200mg. This was a disaster for me. I am small, and I think the dose was too much. It made me feel as if I was on a train that wouldn't stop and it gave me heart palpitations. This freaked me out and I stopped immediately. Neuro recommended trying 100mg.
