modafinil for memory

Hi! I have central sleep apnea/asthma which started it seems 2 years ago with chronic fatigue and O2 levels of about 73% (my FEV1 scores are also 73%). I'm worried my brain cells are dying and I'm having severe chronic fatigue, memory/ADD loss, headaches and sometimes vertigo. I have a neu cyst in my clivus. I've tried bipap with O2 but it doesn't work that well and I'm getting 0% stage 3/4 sleep. What caused my sleep apnea, memory/ADD problem and what can I possibly do?

I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.

The precise mode of action for Modafinil is not yet known. Modafinil is a complex drug which appears to act on a large number of neurochemical pathways. It has only been approved for sleep/ wake disorders such as narcolepsy and although there is plenty of anecdotal evidence of use by students, it has never been studied for use in the general population.

I use modafinil (200mg in the morning) for MS related fatigue and it works wonders for me. I take it as early as I can in the morning and without it I am not sure I would be able to continue to work full time. When using it I feel more alert, sharper and definitely less fatigued. However the one thing I have noticed is that my appetite completely diminishes.

Sorry it's taken so long for you to be getting close to answers. I am not dx'd but I have been dealing with fatigue. I posted recently about this "Fatigue and Flares." The result for me was a prescription for amantadine. I was told if it doesn't work, they'll try something else. So really you should be able to get something to help with fatigue before a diagnosis.

I did get a little foot swelling, and eventually asked for a change since I had vein patterns appear while on the drug. I got a prescription for modafinil, and was told to start at 200mg. I thought it was amazing but at my regular annual checkup the gp was concerned about BP. I took the does down to 100mg and still felt as if it was affecting BP. I am not taking it right now because I can more or less handle what I'm doing now, and I have more time to plan out the day and sleep if needed.

I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?

There are certain common side effects associated with its use like headache, dizziness, difficulty in falling asleep, drowsiness, nausea, heartburn, confusion and burning, tingling and numbness of skin. There could be certain withdrawal symptoms associated with it. Dizziness could be part of this sudden stopping of the drug.

Hi and welcome. It's been so slow around here lately, sorry no has answered yet. Your post made me sad yet I related to it. You are trying anything to feel better, including (and I had to look it up) taking an off label drug. Like all addicts who aren't in recovery, you substituted one drug for another. In your case opiates for alcohol. What you are going thru right now is withdrawl. There is NOTHING that will fix it or hurry it up except time.

Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!

I just want to say that I am planning on reducing the dosage significantly, to reduce the potential for harm. I have noticed, and it seems to be a an atypical feature of Modafinil, that tolerance rapidly reduce. Three days, massively (but not entirely) reduces tolerance, and it seems to last for a useful amount of time.

Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.

Hi Joie, I took Modafinil for over a year. 200 mg a day but as far as I know I did not have any bp issues but no none checked so I can't say for certain that I didn't.

I took a high dose of Nuvigil for 7 days after taking Adderrall for year. In those 7 days I got sores on the side and tip of my tongue. I feel like I always have phlegm in my throat and am always clearing my throat. I now have a sore throat and I feel like I have swollen glands. Dr.'s have no idea what it is. Going on for a month now even after I stopped Nuvigil 3 weeks ago. Anyone with any thoughts or help??

Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!

Has anyone talked to their doc about using didrex for fatigue,memory and loss of attention?

I took 120mg once A day for 2 weeks, then 120mg twice a day for 4 weeks, then I took 240mg at night and 120mg in the morning for 4 weeks, then I took 240mg at night and also 240mg in the morning every other day for a week, and now I am on week 4 of the full dose (240mg in morning and 240mg at night). Thankfully it has gone sooo much better than my initial try with it. It seems to be a great med. I wish you luck and please message me if I can help in any way!

I find it funny that you bring that up because I am also on Modafinil and Cymbalta. Try to get rid of the Seroquel and trazadone when you can and go for the Cymbalta and Provigil. Think about adding a good vitamin B complex to help with energy and you metabolism and what it can do for your brain and mood.

Hi Alex, I am sorry you are feeling so fatigued. It's rotten. Here is my experience. The modafinil not only works, but it's a complete lifesaver for me. I would be in big trouble without it. I started out on 200mg. This was a disaster for me. I am small, and I think the dose was too much. It made me feel as if I was on a train that wouldn't stop and it gave me heart palpitations. This freaked me out and I stopped immediately. Neuro recommended trying 100mg.
