Avatar f tn HELLLO, I AM FRESH OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND THEY WANT ME TO CONTINUE MY INSULINE REGIMENT WITH LANTUS AND NOVOLOG BUT THEY DIDNT TELL ME WHICH ONE TO TAKE WHEN LIKE WITH MEALS AND BEFORE BED. I NEED HELP BEFORE I END UP BACK IN THE HOSPITAL. CAN YOU HELP ME FAST?
704262 tn?1247674638 I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80. I've had it drop as low as 53. It was soo scary!! This morning, it was 89, which I was satisfied with.
Avatar n tn I have tried correlating it with high doses of H due to high carb intake and then a possible mixing of the H with the Lantus. Neither theory panned out. Does anyone have any similar experiences? I was warned by nurse that I might have reactions to the Lantus, but have not been able to get back to the clinic to find out if this is a normal reaction that will go away. So far, it does wax and wane so my motivation is confused. Will this go away after awhile?
12861759 tn?1432917955 I am currently using Lantus and Novolog. Drs. advice is to start with 40 units of Lantus and up it 2 units every third day until I get a fasting BG of less then 130. Is it more important to get to my Lantus goal on a consistant basis before I try to adjust my Novolog?
Avatar n tn My son has recently switched to Lantus and Novolog. I have a question regarding bolus insulin for snacks. How many carbs can he eat without having to bolus? He takes Lantus at bedtime, then Novolog for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a carb/ insulin ratio of 1:12. He goes to school all day, and sometimes gets hungry and I am wondering if it is necessary always for him to take insuling even for snacks? Any ideas/input would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I take Lantus every evening. I fell asleep and failed to take my dose. I woke at 5 am. should i inject novolog to correct my number?
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. So have you already switched to Lantus and are seeing the gain? That isn't clear, but I presume that's the case. Yes, switching insulins can cause weight gain, as the body reacts differently to different insulins. Insulins can stimulate the body into causing fat production, and when the body has to learn to deal with a new insulin, it may very well react that way.
Avatar f tn I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar n tn Most diabetics in America who take injections rather than using a pump use Lantus once or twice a day and a quick-acting insulin like Novolog before meals. We do not normally take NPH with the Lantus, for they do similar things. Once the Lantus dose is right, NPH becomes unnecessary. I would suggest that you discuss this with her endo.
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been taking Novolog Insulin in combination with Lantus. I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn It may be time for a visit to your doctor with a possible adjustment in your dosage of either the Lantus or the Novolog. It sounds like they may both be kicking in full speed at the same time. Your A1C's sound great so you are certainly doing everything you are supposed to do. Hope you can get this issue worked out soon. Perhaps some other folks on Lantus ave some other suggestions. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn My sister also has type 1 and takes lantus at bedtime and then takes humalog for correction AND to cover food with carbs, so in her case, if her BG is not High (if it IS under a particular number that she and her doc have discussed), then she does not need a correction shot AND if she was not going to eat anything containing carbs at that time, she would not need humalog to cover food, HOWEVER, she would still take her lantus shot at bedtime.
Avatar n tn And as for the sweats about a half hour after taking Lantus, there IS a slight peak action with Lantus, although this peak action for most people is several hours after taking the Lantus. In my case, I usually take my Lantus at about 6 am, and I notice a peak that causes my glucose levels to drop by about 8 am. This happens even if I have not taken any Novolog or eaten breakfast (sometimes I wait until I get to work to take Novolog and eat breakfast), so it has to be the Lantus peaking.
Avatar n tn About a month ago I started taking 36 Units of Lantus at bedtime using the Opticlik Cartridge Delivery System and during the day I use Novolog Insulin throaway Flex Pen and that is 12 units before I eat anything. I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???.
Avatar m tn I switched from lantus to novolog and the doses are different, I then switched to the 70/30 novolin (relion brand from wal mart) as it was much cheaper and the dose once again changed, although I am type 2 and monitor my levels closely, all insulin brands work differently so be careful and consult Dr. I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....
Avatar n tn It basically suggests that Lantus, along with Humalog and Novolog might have more dangerous side effects, than the beef or pork-based insulins. However this is ONLY speculation and that particular website is not an authoritive source on the subject.
Avatar f tn Has anybody out there had a problem taking Novalog? I have been on LANTUS AND NOVALOG for 4 years now. I have chronic Lyme and part of my pancreas (tail) removed. For the last two years I've had these strange internal tremors that I have been to the doctor several times to have checked out. I'm told it's anxiety or too little sleep so I'm given RX for those, which I take for a short while, and decide that the side effects are worse than the tremors.
1367276 tn?1278801812 The doctor had me take 5 units of novolog 3 times a day with 1 unit for every 50 points above 150, and then I take 15 units of Lantus at bedtime. For the past 3 days I have been checking my levels 6 to 7 times a day and they have been between 167 and 297 and I can't seem to get them below. What can I do without taking more insulin?
Avatar n tn Hi Dawn, Pizza can be tough to estimate, more because the carb content can vary so much from slice to slice and pizza to pizza. But although I'm just a mom like you, and not a doctor, it sounds like it's not just pizza causing high blood sugar. You didn't say what sort of long-lasting insulin she's on-- is it Novalin? Or Lantus/glargine? If you haven't tried Lantus (aka glargine) yet, I would strongly recommend talking to your endo about it.
Avatar n tn My daughter seems to be having the same problem. She's 15 and takes 68 u of lantus at nite and supliments w/novolog pen when she's eating. They just keep increasing her dosage, but nothing seems to change. She eats pretty decently (for a teen), but she always seems to be high. I also wondered if she might be resistent to the lantus. We've tried new bottles, etc. How many units do you take per day?
1273125 tn?1365077526 My doctor asked that I come in and see the CNP. I did as requested and she along with my consent agreed to start me on Lantus. I have tried the Januvia, Actos, Byetta, etc and none of those have helped. We agreed that if my mealtime numbers continued to be high that we would use a bolus insulin such as Novolog. I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects.
Avatar n tn Type 2. taking 20 units of Lantus at 6 PM. and told to take my Novolog on a sliding scale and given the sliding scale. 1 unit for every 50mg/dl over 100 mg/dl. Problem being I am always 100 + - before meals and don't need insulin. So when do I take the Novolog? I been waiting 2 hrs and using it to get from my normal 250 - 300 (After meals) down to an acceptable level.<140.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched. I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it.
Avatar f tn You did not mention how old the bottle of Lantus is that you are using. Lantus comes with instructions saying to not use any "open" bottle longer than one month. My twin and I, both type 1 diabetics and both on Lantus, do notice unpredictable things happening when a bottle is older than one month, or occasionally when a bottle seems to go "bad a little bit before the one month deadline.
Avatar m tn I am using Novolog 3 times and Lantus 1 time. I usually have a dinner 7:00PM, BS is raging from 110 to 160 at 10:00PM, 100-120 at 2:00AM, 130-150 at 7:00AM just before breakfast. What is the reason morning BS so high ? If it is a little bit high, I understand the fact that due to some hormon, it seems bit high. How should I adjust the insulin amount ?
