i was taking about 16 80 mg oxycontin a day, and went on a fentanyl binge about a month and half ago.... any way im down to about 9 80's a day. cutting down everyday and still hurting everyday... i was wondering how much i should cut down everyday? last week i was at 12 and now im down to 8....

ve been in oxycodone 10mg 4 a day and OxyContin 20mg 2 a day and due to other issues my pain Doc prescribed me the Fentanyl psych 25mg or mcg and took out OxyContin. Now two things.....1)my OxyContin was also used to treat tremors and restless arm syndrome, now that I'm off it, my restless issues and tremors are back and I'm trying to find out if I can do my OxyContin instead of oxycodone with the patch, but I would only do 20mg .

YES I was able to switch and taper from 62 Fentanyl down to 60mg OxyContin. That is quite a bit less OxyContin than the Fentanyl was but it was not hard and I did it all at once in about two weeks. I tapered a tiny bit on the Fentanyl and then stopped it completely and started the OxyContin. I did just fine with little to no w/d symptoms.

That is why my post to your other thread stated that you were on more medicine through Fentanyl than through Oxycontin. That is not the case if you taking the 80 mg and the 40 mg 3x per day. That is 120 mg x 3 or 360 mg of Oxycontin per day vs. 120 mg per day. Let me rerun the conversion calculator... So if you remember I converted your total daily dose of Fentanyl to Oxycontin and it came out to be 210 mg of Oxycontin.

Hello: The answer is NO. Fentanyl is the strongest of the opiates and you would be taking a huge step down. I tried replacing Fentanyl with Oxycontin and went into W/D's. I spent the weekend like that as the switch happened on a Friday. Monday morning I was back on the Fentanyl. The Doctor had suspected that this may happen. To give to insight, I was on a 75mcg patch and replaced it with 40mg of Oxycontin every 6 hrs. That was not nearly enough. I would suggest that you not do that.

Hello Novermhead, You've asked a good question. Oxycontin is a sustained release medication and I am surprised that you are taking four, 40mgs tablets per day. According to the conversion charts that I normally refer to the fentanyl patch would need to be 125 mcg to equal what you are taking now, which would be delivered over a 72 hour period.

I went through something similar a year ago when my Doctor took me off of the Fentanyl due to the drowsiness and replaced it with Oxycontin 20mg every 4 hrs. Let me tell you that it did create some unpleasant w/d symptoms and this went on all weekend until I could reach my Doctor on Monday. Has anyone been successful in switching from the Fentanyl to something else and had good pain control along with not feeling so tired? Any responses would be appreciated.

I ran the calculator for you by converting 120 mg of oxycodone administered via 80 mg + 40mg of Oxycontin daily and the fentanyl strength computed is 50 mcg/hr. This calculator is VERY conservative when converting oral opioids to Fentanyl TD. So I also entered 4200 mcg and had it convert back to oxycodone. Doing this shows that 175 mcg/hr is equal to a total daily dose of oxycodone of 210 mg.

ve seen of fentanyl detox and my own year long, slow methadone recovery, I think fentanyl and methadone are only different in dosage. The full synthetic nature and side effects of both methadone and fentanyl make them very close tie for the worst detox ever. My physician at that time discontinued the Oxycontin and Percocet cold turkey. Te next month of my life was pure hell and I believe I almost died. The resulting health issues were a kidney infection; bladder infection; UTI as well as severe dehydration with associative muscle cramping. My total weight loss was 60lbs. Mollyrae is dead right about alcohol and fentanyl not mixing. I know that most CNS depressant meds inc painkillers usually have alcohol warnings but with fentanyl it is definately not just for show. even small to moderate drinking can lead to very serious problems when you are on the patch, including respiratory depression(which can lead to death - and DOES, search the net, you'll find out). I mostly gave up drinking many years ago but still occasionally have a few drinks on family outings.

I went down to the 50 mcg patch and then went from the patch to oxycontin with percocet for breakthrough pain. Eventually, I got off of the oxycontin and just tapered the percocet down until I got down to 7.5 mg and then went off. I think you can just substitute the oxycontin and then gradually go down from there. I was on the meds for 12 years and went off last December.

I am going into to see my dr and need to switch off the fentanyl. Is there any easy way way to do this and what would be a good option in place of it???? I place one 12mcg patch on every other day and one 25mcg patch. Main reason for stopping is weight gain which is drawing me into major deppression. Any advice is good advice.

I have to be honest with you I have not taken pure oxycontin, however I have taken percocet 7.5/350 and have not had to return to my dr. Now maybe it is different for pure oxycontin. Now my dr is putting my on Kadian and I don't really feel that I will have problems getting it. Now that is my dr.

The methadone i have never found to cause ant adverse reactions.I no longer double doctor and buy oxycontin and worry about running out.In my opinion the benefits are worth the risk.

Also take Norco with this medication. Fentanyl works for me but I can no longer afford. Does not cover Oxycontin either which is what i took previous to Fentanyl an insurance stopped covering. Please help an thank you in advance.

is wanting to replace the Duragesic and Percocet 10/325 ( which I take 3 times daily, 90 per script) to Oxycontin. what Mg.. of Oxycontin would be required for me too take being that Ive been on pretty high doses of Duragesic and Percocets for years now?

I am on the Fentanyl Patch and I have tried Oxycontin. So far the Fentanyl Patch seems to be working. As far as the Oxycontin, I have been on it and my body got immune very fast. So as you can see, I have tried about very thing. Pain Management now wants to put in a Pain PUMP. I am really twisted with those thoughts. Does any one have one? How is it and how does it work for you?

There are many other narcotic options other than oxycontin, however, what may work for one person may not work for another - therefore, it's virtually impossible to suggest what would be a good switch for you. You're best off discussing this with your doctor - simply be honest wtih him/her and tell them that the oxycontin is not working very well anymore and ask if there is anything they can do.
