Good day, clonidine works very well when coming off of opiates. That is what they gave me during my 8 days of detox and after 54 days I use it at night to help me rest. It really works well and I would call it a miracle drug as well. Just only use .1 and no more than that, but it all depends on what your doctor says too.
the withdrawals are starting to kick in with jerks and tears without crying and insomnia. i took half of a .1 mg pill and feel nothing yet but mind you, i also am used to taking VAST doses of valium and xanax. my blood pressure is normally very low, but i'm also a benzo addict, so is this stuff gonna work to help me sleep when 5 xanax didn't? will it work at all? i don't wanna take too much and have my bp go down to 40/20.
Hi and welcome to the forum. I read your post and it doesn't sound like a good time to jump as it is Christmas Eve. But if you have no pills, then that's it. So, I agree with Mary above, my Dr. prescribed Clonidine for me, and it really helped with the w/d's. Plus the Thomas recipe and I swear by Epsom salt baths for the rls. I know it's hard to get in touch with any Dr. at this time of year, but try anyway. Yours might be working, and ask him what to do.
yes it can but the muscle twitching has nothing to do with it. that is separate. you need to check your blood pressure if possible. if your physician was concerned that you might go to low that tells me (a nurse) that it must run on the low side. clonidine is safe to use but will drop your pressure rapidly. it can be very helpful and should not harm you. you just need a baseline idea of how it reading so you can treat it, and your withdrawals appropriately. does that make sense?
In general mixing benzo's with opiates can be very dangerous, espcially if you've just started taking xanax. As you probably know both are CNS depressants, so anytime your mixing those kind of drugs you run a certain risk. The majority of overdoses due to opiates also involve benzo's, if not even more to the cocktail, like sleeping aids.
re already taking high blood pressure meds, you need to ask him about that and perhaps you can switch to Clonidine to get the benefit from the high blood pressure meds and help with the w/d's.
I would say that the Clonidine cut at least 50% of my w/d's if not more. It will almost completely get rid of sweats, chills, even bone and joint pain that you feel with opiates.
clonidine is originally for high blood pressure, and since the high bp causes a lot of the withdrawal symptoms (racing heart, sweats, etc) the Clonidine is suppose to lower your bp and help with these symptoms. It is possible your bp is dropping too low. Do you have a blood pressure cuff and have you talked to your doctor? You can go to a walgreens/walmart and have blood pressure taken as well.
I am soooooo scared to take what he has told me to take seeing all these horror storys online about mixing benzos and suboxone. Well if anyone can help me feel better or if they have had this experience also please post keep in mind I have never took any of these medications before other then the suboxone. My medications are suboxone 2mg four times a day,clonidine 0.1mg everynight at bedtime, zoloft 50mg every morning, tenex 1mg 3 times a day, and valium 10mg as needed for anxiety.
My boyfriend has a severe addiction to opiates. It has been 5 years and the longest he has been clean is 3 months but during his clean time from opiates turns to alcohol. He is now is rehab for 3 months and I was just wondering the best ways to be there and be supportive for him while he is in there and especially when he comes out. I'm willing to work with him on this since it was his idea for rehab and detox.

IVE BEEN ON THEM FOR 6 YRS BUT FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN TAPERING TO GET OFF OF THE BENZO'S. BENZO'S ARE VERY HARD TO COME OFF OF.
00 PM and the pain is back al most as bad as it was before the first dose. Very greatful for any kind of break from this. Second dose coming up before bed.My drugs are much harder to get off than most so If it helps me I'm sure it should help you.It lowers your blood pressure Fast heart beat, veins popping,nerves exploding and the mental nightmare This drug should help a great deal.
Sorry wrong post- i meant to say clonidine is used in most detoxes around the country for opiates. it helps alot with the symphatic nervous system problems opiate withdrawal presents. it helps with the sweating, hot/cold flashes, blood pressure fluctuations, and insomnia.
No, do not use any opiates and set yourself back but if the clonidine is what it takes to help you get through these rough days use it. Sometimes you have to have some help to succeed. It took me 2 weeks to get over the WDs I used xanax only when I couldn't stand the WDs for the first month. I felt that black hole for months after, I've had to learn new ways to deal with everything you will too. You are doing great and have made 4 days.
