mirapex and fibromyalgia

My doc just prescribed Mirapex for me. And it helps a great deal. It stimulates the D1, D2, D3 and D4 dopamine receptors. It is an agonist and most especially hits the D4. It really helps the pain but I'm not sure if that is because it relaxs me or if it is actually correcting a deficiency in the dopamine levels that is causing the fibro. It also stimulates something that makes me dream vividly and sleep very lightly (of course, if you dream all night long - you are sleeping lightly!

I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.

PLMD, RLS and apnea. My neuro put me on mirapex immediately upon seeing the results. I actually feel like myself again. I had no idea that I was sleeping so poorly, especially after hearing about so much fatigue from my friends here. I can wake up and actually be awake!! I still shake, twitch, jerk and am quite tingly. But sleeping well sure makes it all more manageable... So for those of you with sleep disorders, or that think you might, ASK about Mirapex!

I also experience muscle stiffness and cramping in my right calf and, as of today, also in my left leg and calf. I have been told by my primary care doctor and my neurologist that I have benign fasciculations and not ALS based on bloodwork, physical exams and symptoms. However, I am still concerned because the cramps seem to be getting worse. I even have cramps/fatigue in my upper right arm now, especially in the morning. I am concerned about fibromyalgia now.

I have gained 60 pounds in the past 7 years, since being diagnosed with sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome. Since then, I am told that fibromyalgia is an offspring to the demyelinating polyneuropathy that was determined during a nerve conduction study for carpal tunnel syndrome in 1993. I am depressed, irritable, bruise easily, fall asleep during passive activities, have swollen feet (maybe just one foot) and can't arrive anywhere on time. Leaving the house is a chore.

m taking lyrica 150mg. bid and mirapex at bedtime. I went to get a lab slip yesterday for blood work and was informed i needed to be fasting for my cholesterol and trigy. levels.I have never been told this before. When I first started with this dr. my cholesterol was 398 and trigylcerides were 499. the dr. just gave me meds. as stated earlier. I am mad about this.The lyrica worked well at the beginning but now after gaining 25 lbs.

Wow Kraz - I am sorry that you have had to deal with the problem from Mirapex. I too have RLS and have been on Mirapex for about 2 years, but fortunately have not had a problem with gambling. I am an addict, but have been doing good with that too. Interesting though, your post made me think, there are other things that if I really look at it, I probably do in excess - and have been doing more since on Mirapex. Wonder if there is a connection there.

My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed. I felt the affect of being goofy and my speech slurring, but still no sleep. I called again today, and she gave me a prescription for Requip (since there is a generic for it, and is less expensive than Mirapex). She started me on the starter pack. I take 1/2 of a .

The doctor put me on mirapex. She told me it would make me very sleepy and help to control the jerking and twitching at night to allow me to get better sleep. I spent most of my sleep time in phase 2 sleep with very little time in REM. My question is about the mirapex. Have any of you ever had issues falling asleep while on the mirapex? I find that once I do get to sleep it helps me stay asleep better.

Currently, there is a generic available for Mirapex (Pramipexole) and it is made by TEVA pharmaceuticals. It comes in the 0.125mg, 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, and 1.5mg strength tablets.

I also take Mirapex and it works well for me. I also have eaten bananas and that helps...google rls and see if you can find any other ideas.

all the way around. I have OA, Fibromyalgia, and Lymphedema (legs). I had a L knee replacement 2 years ago. I take Celebrex, Cymbalta, and Lyrica for these conditions...also Baclofen (muscle relaxant) for other spinal injuries. Am fused L-3 to S-1. Last night (early this morning), my husband reminded me that compression hose helps, so I put one on....did help enough to get some sleep. I am now wondering if it might be RLS.

t know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.

I had been having a lot of unexplained symptoms such as tremor, muscle twitching and jerking, tingling in my extremeties and severe eye pain and facial numbness. Migraine was ruled out. Since I started on the mirapex most of my symptoms have either gone away completely or greatly diminished. Could they have been simply caused by the sleep deprivation? Thanks for your time.

I'm on .25mg of Mirapex for RLS and am gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced this. Any idea as to why. Suggestions? Thanks!

Hi again, I just left you a message in another chat. I had ruptured 2 discs in 1988 on a Nordic Trac exercise machine. Had surgery to repair it. Everything seemed fine. I resumed my normal routines. Then in 1989 I was car jacked. I got away but in trying to get away, my attacker jumped in the car beside me in the drivers seat so I kicked the door continuously. It was in my husbands porsche so the door was very heavy.

Because of the Mirapex and Gabapentin I can sleep at all. I still get uncomfortable though. It is pain really, except in my left arm anyway. But, the uncomfortablnes and pain in left arm is toerable. I just need more sleep than i am getting.

Thank you for your feedback. We would also love it if doctors would give out MedHelp's URL to their patients to help track symptoms. Then their patients could just click Email This on their trackers and send it to their doctors for review. We could easily add Restless Legs as a symptom and Mirapex as a treatment to the Sleep Tracker. Would that work for you?

Secondly, I have been put on Pramoxile (sp?) Mirapex for it. Started at 1/8 mg and increased over time to now 1 mg. I hate the side effects but it seems to be working for the most part. I understand it is mainly used for Parkinson's diasease and sometimes RLS. Does anyone take this for their RLS? If so how much? Supossedly it helps increase Dopmine levels which PLMD and Parkinson disorders have in common.I'm not sure if RLS is caused by low Dopamine or not. I feel like YUCK.

I loose a lot of sleep. I get in day and night. My arms even jerk and have that restless feeling. Mirapex is taken twice a day and don't help. No drs will address it and I'm miserable . Is this a lack of a vitamin or mineral. Do I ever get rid of them?

I have RLS and take Mirapex, .25mg about an hour before bed. It has worked great for me. I tried the Gabapentin and got up to 1200 mg - which was also taken before bed, but it did nothing for me. I have been told that Mirapex works much better than Ropinerol - you may want to talk to your doc about Mirapex as an option - it just went generic.

ll know whether to adjust the oxygen saturation and pressure and/or adjust your RLS meds... sometimes Mirapex will indeed lose its effectiveness over time and need a change.

I have read the awful side effects of behavior with Mirapex and also think anything that works on the dopamine in your brain is risky and they warn of gambling or other things, like shopping. That is me. I like to look nice and shop too much. I use a walker and handcontrols on my car - somehow, I think my style counteracts the walker and the hand controls. Crazy, ins't it?. The last five years before I retired was before Mirapex and it was literally HELL.

I also take Grapefruit Seed Extract for my immune system. I have found over the years that I get run down and sick often with fibromyalgia. If I can keep my body strong in other ways I can fight off the pain flare ups. I also get B12 shots monthly. That really helps with fatigue and preventing me from feeling run down which leads to pain/flare ups. Also foods. White flour, white bread, white potatoes, white rice. Simple sugars like cakes, cookies, soda all make pain worse.

My question is once I have stopped taking these horrible pills, what do I do about my restless legs as it makes me feel like ripping my limbs off.
