Avatar m tn Problem started while I was taking minocycline for acne. Went in to student health. NP RXed 10 days doxycycline, 100 mg PO BID, sent me to ER. Had an ultrasound, confirmed it was epididymitis plus a hydrocele. They gave me a shot of ceftriaxone and told me to continue with the doxycycline. The ceftriaxone helped a great deal (swelling went down almost immediately) but as I continued the course of doxy the problem began to get worse again. I followed up with a urologist.

Avatar f tn I have been on Minocycline for acne for well over a year. Usually I take 50mg twice a day, although for the last month have been on 75mg twice a day. If by some freak chance I had rectally contracted Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, would this antibiotic take care of it?
Avatar m tn Not all antibiotics are effective against all infections ... and minocycline is not something I recall being effective in treating Lyme. I just located a website I have not been to before, titled "Doxycycline vs Minocycline for Lyme Neuroborreliosis". Here is a section from it which seem fairly reasonable; you may wish to read the rest.
Avatar f tn If you are having inflammatory acne then tetracycline or doxycycline or minocycline; benzoyl peroxide 5% gel; azelaic acid 20% cream; clindamycin 1% lotion or cream; erythromycin 2% gel or cream. If you are having recalcitrant acne in women then probably oral contraceptive containing norgestimate 0.25 mg and ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg; spironolactone; prednisone. If you have acne where sweating is an aggravating factor then aluminum chloride solution should be your choice of your treatment.
Avatar f tn Yesterday, after 3 phone calls, I was prescribed Minocycline 100mg # 30. Can you tell me why Doxy is preferred to Minocycline? Does the Doxy work faster than the Mino? I am allergic to NSAIDS if that makes any difference.
Avatar m tn Thanks in advance for your response. I'm a 19 year old male that had a potential exposure 5 months ago with a female who is known to get around. The sex was unprotected. For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
Avatar n tn Steroids aggravate perioral dermatitis, but the condition usually comes for no cause. If you go back on Minocycline or some similar antibiotic, you should clear up in a month. That should clear you up within a month. No need to go back on the pill. Also no need for chronic oral therapy. If the condition comes back at all, it probably won;t do so for years. Take care. Dr.
Avatar n tn Since you feel the lesions are worsening, you either need to stop the application of Azelaic acid or supplement it with oral anti-biotic like (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline) which is the first line of treatment for Rosacea. Ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn A clinical trial led by doctors Luanne Metz and Wee Yong shows the common acne medicine minocycline can slow the process of MS in people who have experienced initial symptoms of the debilitating autoimmune disease. The clinical trial that led to minocycline’s proved efficacy was conducted at the university’s Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the Cumming School of Medicine. The results of the trial are to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Thursday.
Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be acne or acne keloidalis nuchae. Treatment includes suppression of the inflammation with antibiotics and steroid gels or intralesional steroid injections. So apply antibiotic cream like Neosporin or Bactroban. If the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and steroids may be needed. So continue using the Minocycline and if the symptoms persist then steroids may have to be added. Please consult a dermatologist in that case. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn For people with more severe cases, doctors often prescribe an oral (taken by mouth) antibiotic. Tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin, and doxycycline are the most common antibiotics used to treat rosacea. Some people respond quickly, while others require long-term therapy. Isotretinoin may be considered as a treatment option for all forms of severe or therapy-resistant rosacea.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a steriod induced rosacea, my question is this, will there be continual break outs while on treatment? I've been on treatment for a little over 2 weeks and it seems as if my face is getting bad again. It has not completly cleared up but is about 75% better then what it was before I was diagnosed. I am no longer on the steroid, off for 2 weeks now but am having "acne" if you will, breaking out still.
Avatar n tn In regards to treatment, first line of therapy would be topical metronidazole concurrently with oral tetracycline, or doxycycline or minocycline for 2,5 – 3 months. Systemic erythromycin is recommended in children, pregnant and nursing mothers and tetracycline-allergic patients. Second line of topical therapy could be erythromycin, clindamycin, azalaic acid or sulfur preparations.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar n tn Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used.
Avatar m tn I went digging on the 'net about doxy vs minocycline for Lyme, and found this, on a site called eMedExpert (see especially the places below where I have put ==> arrows >> "Although doxycycline and minocycline attain comparable serum [meaning blood] levels, there are important differences in CSF [cerebrospinal fluid, meaning the fluid around the brain and spinal cord] and CNS [meaning central nervous system] concentrations.
Avatar f tn ever since I started Minocycline (about 2 weeks ago) I've also been feeling like I can't concentrate, and also like I'm not as smart or as sharp as I was before. could this also be related to the medication? thanks for getting back so quickly. I will talk to my physician and see what he has to say. hopefully I can find an alternative or go off the medication and get my life back.
