Avatar f tn The dr did give me an rx for a 10-day course of Minocycline (sp?) in case the Bactrim did not work and I have chlamydia. As well as two fluconazole tablets to take after I had completed the antibiotic treatment in case of potential yeast overgrowth while on the antibiotics. But…the Bactrim seems to have worked based on the much lower white blood cell count in my urine and significantly lessened symptoms. And he said if it was an STD, the Bactrim wouldn’t have done anything.
Avatar m tn last year in april i have performed unprotected cuninglus on a sex worker.i have been taking minocycline 2 times a day and bactrim 2 times a day for one year.now after one year in may i have taken my elisa test of hiv which came out negative.my concern is does taking these medication for this much length can affect my hiv test .do i need to retest again?
Avatar f tn The question I posed was should I be overly concerned about getting rectally tested for STDs if I have had only one instance of rectal exposure vs many instances of genital exposure (all with the same person, obviously). The expert in this forum told me practically, since I had been tested negative at the genital site, the risk from rectal was low since it was all with the same person.
Avatar m tn I have seen 3 different dermatologists and have tried Minocycline, Erithromicine, and now bactrim. Also, I have tried applying retin-a, tazarac, Clindagel, and Benzaclin. The bactrim alone seems to keep the problem at bay when I initially use it but then it seems as thought the potency wears off and the problem returns. I have also tried hormone replacement therapy to the tune of $1,100/month, changing my diet and every over the counter product you can buy at a dug store.
Avatar m tn the bactrim seemed to be the only thing that would take the folliculitis completely away, but after 3-4 days off bactrim it would come back even after 6 months on bactrim… I then got switched to minocycline for long term therapy, been on this about 1 year, and taking anywhere from 50mg a day to 200mg if it flares. it's a constant battle. it seems to flare every week. it's annoying, exhausting and painful to sleep on my pillow at night.
Avatar m tn Prior to Accutane I was on Bactrim and Minocycline for entirely too long (mino for about two years, then bactrim for about two, and then mino again for two more years). Outside of the occasional red mark which more closely resembles a pimple that is not terribly sore, and a case of jock itch every so often, I have no reason to suspect that I have an STD such as herpes. But I'm still concerned.
Avatar m tn Not all antibiotics are effective against all infections ... and minocycline is not something I recall being effective in treating Lyme. I just located a website I have not been to before, titled "Doxycycline vs Minocycline for Lyme Neuroborreliosis". Here is a section from it which seem fairly reasonable; you may wish to read the rest.
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar n tn I was put on a course of Minocycline for 2 weeks - no help. I was then put on a course of Bactrim DS for 4 weeks - helped significantly (ability to hold urine increased tremendously, and urgency subsided) - but symptoms returned after stopping medication. Currently on a course of Flagyl for 2 weeks - symptoms seem to be intensified... Please help if you can. Thank-you.
Avatar n tn t mention called minocycline. Sometimes injections of cortisone, or cortisone applied under overnight placement of a shower cap help. Even if treatments help, you may have to put up with only partial benefit. Unfortunately, this is just the way things are with this condition. On the other hand, I have seen patients like you in whom the condition just stopped coming after a while. Best. Dr.
974371 tn?1424653129 My dog scratched my arm over 2 weeks ago. I have kept it cleaned and civered with Neosporin. I am 62 anh have had problems the past year with thinning skin and bleed under the skin easily. :-(. This morning the one on my arm was bigger. Ncalled the doc and he checked it took a sample for a culture.
Avatar m tn Hello Peter, It usually helps us if you have a question or want to share a potential risk. Please see a physician for the correct dosage and correct diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Lyme based on a positive Western Blot test and a Sunnybrook test that was indicative on the 93 band (I think that was the band) I am on Minocycline and was wondering if others out there were also on it and if it worked for them. I seem to be getting better. There are ups and downs but I am able to move much better than anytime in the past 7 and a half years. Just wondering how long one has to be on the drug and if it really makes you better.

Avatar m tn I have all of the symptoms, no money to get tested. I do have some old minocycline and tetracycline from old acne.
Avatar f tn I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?
Avatar m tn Thanks in advance for your response. I'm a 19 year old male that had a potential exposure 5 months ago with a female who is known to get around. The sex was unprotected. For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
Avatar f tn Not as much though—not sure if it’s the antibiotics working (I also have minocycline that I take 2x a day for acne) today is day 4/7 of Bactrim. I’m wondering if my leg pain is because I haven’t put real pressure on that leg in probably a week? Hoping it’s nothing serious—still don’t have lab results I called today and they said they found bacteria but haven’t identified it.
