Avatar n tn I notice that you have suggested oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs to combat perioral dermatitis. I've been suffering from this condition for about 2 years. I was pregnant when I was diagnosed with it and my doctor was only comfortable prescribing a topical antibiotic. This did very little to help the condition.
Avatar m tn Hello, Fusidic acid and minocycline are both antibiotics which are used for the treatment of acne. Treatment options include topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar f tn I have been on and off antibiotics for this, including cephalexin (twice) and minocycline. My skin clears up on the medication but it breaks out again about week after treatment ends. I was also given some topical treatments, including a benzoyl peroxide wash and ketoconazole shampoo (used a body wash) to alternate with every day, and clindamycin topical lotion which i did not see much improvement with. I even tried nasal mupiricin ointment because my doctor thought it was staph.
Avatar n tn Hi Can anyone, please give me any advice, Ive been taking minocycline tablets for 5 months and have just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant the last few days I increased the dose to 200mg as my skin was terrible. I am now worried sick that I have caused fetal damage to my nuborn baby. Can anyone advise me what to do Thank you.
Avatar f tn Yesterday, after 3 phone calls, I was prescribed Minocycline 100mg # 30. Can you tell me why Doxy is preferred to Minocycline? Does the Doxy work faster than the Mino? I am allergic to NSAIDS if that makes any difference.
Avatar f tn Hi, A few months ago I visited my doctor to discuss options for decreasing the amount of acne I have, for a few various reasons. We decided to use a topical cream, for the more oily areas on my face, and for me to take a 100mg dosage of Apo-Minocycline two times a day (morning and night). This worked fantastic for a few months. Eventually, I developed this odd rash on one side of my neck.

Avatar n tn I have had this rash only on my neck for over a month now. Just red, doesn't itch. I went to the derm which was actually a nurse practitioner last week. She took one look and said acne/ follicullitis. But I don't have acne anywhere else? So she gave me minocycline, which i had already been taking on and off. Also, told me to get Panoxil 10%. The day after I used the panoxil the rash has become redder and progressively spreading.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with rosacea by three docs and been given three different topical creams. None worked at all and one was about $100 per small bottle! I seem to always be red across the nose and cheeks and it seems to be getting worse each year and I am beginning to notice some on chin and between eyebrows. I really havent been able to pinpoint triggers but have always blushed easily and have always gotten really red faced during exercise. Playing on tennis and basketball teams in H.S.
Avatar n tn Up until this point I had been intermittently using the topical steroid given in May for the mango rash because it seemed to help. I stopped using this and visited the same dermatologist, who confirmed that the condition was in fact perioral dermatitis. She prescribed clindamycin topical gel and 4 weeks of minocycline oral antibiotics.
Avatar m tn as a treatment gave topical antibiotic+corticosteroids to apply it on lid margins for 10 days.but the problem is not clearing up. I am using anti dandruff shampoo's regularly for clearing up dandruff problems, but still burning sensation exists (one eye only) Is there any alternative or home treatment for Meibomian seborrhea other than corticosteroids ?
Avatar f tn I have been struggling with Perioral Dermatits for over a year!! Not the first time Ive had this! Been treated with numerous antibiotics. As soon as I finish the antibiotic less than a week later it's back!!! Im allergic to sulfur! Im currently taking minocycline and been on this for two weeks, bout a week before my face broke out in a rash and its on my upper and lower cheeks sometimes neck. Im demographic, don't understand that yet.
Avatar n tn However, becoming very frustrated I decided to start doing some research online and it turns out that one of the causes of perioral dermatitis is topical steroids, the very medicine I was using to use to heal it. Many trusted online medical websites state topical steroids as one of the main causes of perioral dermatitis, so I immediately stopped using it. I went back to the clinic and told the doctor my findings and he referred me to a dermatologist friend of his.
Avatar f tn m currently on Minocycline and a topical for the past few weeks and it seems to be improving (though not at the rate I'd want). I've heard that Clotrimazole topical cream works wonders. If the treatment I'm currently on fails to show more progress I'm going to switch to the Clotrimazole. I know it unsightly and it makes me very self conscious, as well. Hang in there and I hope my information helps!
Avatar n tn The main thing to know about Periorificial (perioral) dermatitis is that it can be caused, and is always aggravated, by the use of topical corticosteroids. So, use of corticosteroids is contraindicated. Also important, and quite encouraging, is the fact that perioral dermatitis is mostly a self-limiting disease that evolves during several weeks and resolves over several months, rarely longer.
Avatar m tn The itching is often followed by a quick chill and usually dissipates after I start to sweat. I have tried topical corticosteroid ointments in select areas of the body in which itching is more prominent but there has been no change. Daily moisturization of the entire body does not help much either. I have seen both a GP as well as a dermatologist several times and they have failed to help unfortunately. Any ideas as to what the cause of this problem is?
Avatar n tn I have just been diagnosed, and my POD is at a medium level intensity because I abruptly quit my topical steroid cream (which im positive is the cause of all this). I have been prescribed 21 days of doxycycline at 100mg and metronidazole 0.75%. I'm wondering if this will be enough to clear my POD? I know it usually takes quite a while to clear and this seems like not enough? My doctor told me to take my oral anti-biotics for a couple of weeks first than start the topical anti-biotics.
Avatar m tn route. Specifically I was prescribed Minocycline 100mg, 14 caps. And a topical Mupirocin 2%. My dermatologist was sckeptical of the antibiotic route and also prescribed Finacea, for a Rosacea condition. I am unpleased to anounce that neither the posting above solution neither both of the specific prescriptions helped me. The only response I got was from the oral antibiotic for the first week of the two and that reduced te redness by about 30%.
230262 tn?1316645934 I was just given Voltaren Gel(diclofenac sodium topical get 1%) for my neck pain(spinal cord nerve damage) and muscle spasms in my shoulders. I've been using it for the past few days and it has worked wonders for the pain in my shoulders. It comes in pill form too and it is geared for arthritis and pain. I was surprised how quickly it reduced my shoulder pain.
Avatar n tn Dear sir/madam, I am writing this letter to get advice and help regarding my scalp folliculitis. I’ve had this condition for the past 6 years. Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
