Avatar n tn The cutaneous hyperpigmentation usually resolves after cessation of the drug. Tooth discoloration, however, generally remains. Avatar m tn I have been on Minocycline for coming up 9 years now and i'm currently down to one 50mg pill a day to control my acne, my question is what effects does it have on my cognitive ability and memory over such a long period of time.
7988747 tn?1396207441 I was taking minocycline for about a month. I went to my Obgyn and found out I was 7 weeks pregnant. Could being on minocycline for a month when I was 7 weeks pregnant affected my baby?
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar n tn I was wondering how to treat skin discoloration. I have severe sking discoloration on my upper inner thighs. The skin is darker in areas. I use to heat up heating pad repeatedly and place it in my lap and I thought that may have been the cause. I have stopped heating it up but the skin discoloration is still there. I think it tends to get worse in the cold. I am not sure if my weight loss may be a factor.
Avatar f tn Now have finished 2 yrs on daily antibiotic (minocycline and levaquin). Was doing well but have very unsightly and widespread blackening of skin, which does not clear up I believe my darkened cataracts developed as my skin blackened, and that this blackening residue is possibly in all my organs. Have recently dropped back to single minocycline/day (100 mg) but believe cysts may already be redeveloping.
Avatar m tn My LLMD added minocycline with the Bicillin LA I have been taking for months. During the week or two on minoccycline, had major problems with dizziness and painful toes. Now I am taking azithromax and tindimax, along with the 2.4 mu of Bicillin LA two shots a week. Have felt bad, feet tingling and anxiety back badly, especially around 8 a.m. Also feel spacey and get headaches. As some of you know, I have lost a lot of body fat during the last two years, and it is still getting worse.
Avatar f tn tetracycline, doxycycline (Vibramycin), Minocin (minocycline) Sulfa drugs - if near delivery (because they can increase the chance of serious newborn jaundice)
Avatar m tn Some medications may cause discoloration of the teeth, but then such discoloration would be showing on most of the teeth. Examples would be tetracycline medication, also too much fluoride. Hmmm, genetical defect during development may too cause discoloration and malformation of enamel, dentin - but than again it would show in more than one tooth. A) I would seek a second opinion. B) If you do decide to go ahead with current dentist, I would suggest pressuring him into using anesthesia.
Avatar f tn If its intrinsic (inside) bleaching may make a difference but it could also be that your teeth are naturally more yellow. The only option to completely hide the discoloration is to do veneers, which are thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to your teeth and hide your color.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone. Looks like I've joined the paresthesia club. I had my lower wisdom teeth extracted about 1.5 weeks ago and I'm still suffering with the numbness and burning sensation in my lower lip, chin and lower teeth. Every day I pray this will be over but I wake up to the continuous pain. I have taken some advice on taking vitamin B12. I would like to know what the suggested dosage would be. Also, I was wondering if anyone ever tried acupuncture with any success.
Avatar m tn I am now 8 weeks pregnant and in the first month I was taking Minocycline and antibiotic which is a class D drug. They say it causes fetal damage. Just wondering if anyone has taken this medicine during early pregnancy and what was the results??? As Dr have mentioned there are minor chances that this medicine will effect baby's teeth and bones... Looking forward to positive response...
Avatar f tn My 2 1/2 yr old son banged his tooth approx 3 weeks ago & has since discolored. A pediatric dentist advised to have a "papodmy (spelling?) & composite filling" to correct the "infected nerve" on his Front tooth (E) & mask the discoloration. This is supposed to last until his baby teeth fall out around age 7? What exactly does this mean? Will his adult teeth be affected by this? Is this the best way to proceed? Does the procedure cause alot of pain?
Avatar m tn Hi, I want to know why I have on both eyes, crescent shaped bruises or discoloration on the lower eyes just above/on the cheekbones? I had 2 upper root canals 2 years ago, 2 wisdom teeth out this year even though the bruising was already there before the teeth were taken out. What are the causes for this? Is it related to the dental procedures even though it has happened months and years after this?

Avatar n tn I have a discoloration on my upper gum line around my two front teeth. The pink color is now purple. No pain or discomfort. I know this is a symptom of Hiv but that is not possible. No risk since september 05 and tested neg last month. The area around my teeth is pink and the purple color starts around 1/4 inch above the gum lime. Any advice?
Avatar f tn He is also encouraging me to choose a slightly lighter shade than my surrounding natural teeth to compensate for the discoloration since concerned of the possiblity of it showing through. I believe his crown color choice is too bright and want a darker shade. Is there anything my dentist can do to prep the underlying tooth, masking the discoloration and preventing it from showing through the new crown? Also, is an all porcelain crown the best option given this circumstance?
Avatar f tn I notice, when looking at my teeth, it is slightly discolored - kind of grayish. Does this mean my root canal is failing?
Avatar f tn I have my wisdom teeth growing, i have a concern on the left tooth on my bottom jaw. The molar that touches my wisdom tooth has its gum section on the front of the tooth detatched. It doesnt look like its receeding and it doesnt have any odd discoloration, just looks normal but detatched. My sister says that she had something like her gums detatching just to make room for adjustments on the new tooth. Is my gum just detatched to help me make my wisdom teeth to move better?
4405063 tn?1354071904 Besides porcelain veneers,is there any option to cover the discoloration of teeth after root canal?
Avatar f tn I’m 18 and have very mild IP (a few misshapen teeth, skin discoloration, etc). My prom is in two weeks and I’m thinking about getting a spray tan, but I don’t know why the risks are because of my IP. What are the risks?
Avatar n tn If you have been to a dentist and the stains could not be easily removed, what he was probably telling you is that the discoloration is on the inside of the tooth. These stains are from the way your teeth formed, possibly from antibiotics as a child and sometimes the reasons are just unknown. Scottma is right in that your best option would be to see a cosmetic dentist for an evaluation. There is no home remedy that will help this type of discoloration.
Avatar m tn Pulp canal obliteration (PCO) occurs commonly following traumatic injuries to teeth. Approximately 4-24% of traumatized teeth develop varying degrees of pulpal obliteration that is characterized by the apparent loss of the pulp space radiographically and a yellow discoloration of the clinical crown.
Avatar m tn Why this is important is because a universal tip can not be used wrong all ends are working end (hence universal). The discoloration of the teeth can most certainly not be cause from an untrasonic it is infant amazing at removing staining. As for the discoloration that you are noticing here is my "guess" past hygienist probably have not cleaned your teeth well which lead to inflammation of the gum which can cause swelling and the gum line will appear higher up.
Avatar m tn I am debating between veneers and a regular filling (I am not sure what is the proper name for it, but this is what I have now and it changed the way it looks over 5 years since I got it) for my front central upper teeth. The condition of my front teeth has been a really sensitive and upsetting subject for me for a very long period of time and now I just want to finally get it over with and I am looking for the best option.
4373539 tn?1354708752 Ditto Jackie. The tetracyclines can discolor teeth in developing children, so pregnanct women and children under 8 (or older for those with delayed teeth) shouldn't take them. I haven't heard of any tooth discoloration in adults.
Avatar n tn My 22-month-old son chipped the two upper teeth that are the next teeth after the two front teeth. I went to the dentist with him and he thinks it could be amelogenesis imperfecta. The teeth both had a pitted, discolored part six month ago, (we thought he discoloration was from iron drobs) and now the enamel of the front part is coming off very easily, but on just those two teeth (so far). If this keeps going, both those teeth are going to be down to the nerve within weeks/months.
Avatar n tn My step-son was hit in the mouth during a baseball game. He had two teeth( the front tooth and the one next to it) displaced. He was taken to the ER they were placed back into position. Exrays are normal. He saw a dentist the next day. After that besides being incredibly sore, his gum above the area turned white. Then a day or so later the white area was not there. He had not been brushing his teeth do to the pain. And shortly after he began brushing it went away.
