Avatar m tn TXLDA is the short name for Texas Lyme Disease Association, and they can likely give you names of Lyme specialists near you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- As to cost of the tests and doctor visits, your insurance may cover much of it, or if you don't have insurance, then ask TXLDA (see above) and also go online at ILADS [dot] org for MDs or organizations who may be able to assist you financially. Best wishes to you!
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics over a year ... it's not uncommon. The reason is that Lyme bacteria have a VERY slow reproductive cycle, and I've read that bacteria can be killed most easily while they are dividing/reproducing. Non-Lyme bacteria reproduce very quickly, in a matter of hours per "generation", so two weeks of antibiotics has the opportunity to hit the reproducing bug many times. With Lyme, tho, it's so drawn out that the treatment must be also.
Avatar m tn t getting better my doctor recently decided to put me on an antibiotic called minocycline. I was wondering if say Lyme presented itself when i was 12-13 would it still be treatable by such a drug? I take 50mg two times a day.
Avatar m tn Any thoughts on my choices of treating Lyme over MS is appreciated, especially if anyone has been misdiagnosed like myself. I choose to treat Lyme because Lyme can be tested by dna whereas MS is only diagnosed by a series of tests. Also, I believe MS is caused by an "infection" such as Lyme, EBV, etc... If interested, please read my blog for my exact story and history at www.learnlyme.
280418 tn?1306325910 I would urge you to make that appointment with the LLMD because it could take months to get it, it did for me. That way, if you do your 6 week course and the neuro decides that is "enough" you would at least have something to turn to. You can always cancel your appointment.....but it is very difficult to get into one with short notice.
Avatar m tn My wife's cardiologist told her that long term use of minocycline or any of the antibiotics of the cycline family will burn the valves in your legs that control the flow of blood back and forth. Instead of a one way street for your blood to flow down from your artery in your leg and back up through your veins it now becomes a two way street because your valve isn't working. The problem is she has to keep taking it for chronic Lyme disease.
Avatar m tn And standard doctors do not do the more sensitive tests for Lyme. I happen to find one, after many years, who understood Lyme Disease because she was part of the original Lyme Disease studies at Yale. I was very lucky. I had been tested for everything in the book. I mean it. Lyme Disease came out positive when sent to a more sensitive lab. I felt better for a while on antibiotics, which told me that was the correct diagnosis.
Avatar m tn t know it this helps you at all but in my lyme brain opinion, my foot problems are due to lyme, and minocycline make me somewhat dizzy, anxious and depressed. Hope you feel better soon!
Avatar f tn I have Neuro Lyme and from an MRI found I had lesions on my brain from a co-infection of Lyme called Bartonella. You may have that infection and minocycline is often used for Bart's. Do you know if the tests were taken at IgeneX labs? Things do improve with treatment so I am glad you will be on your way soon.
Avatar f tn However, I had been on schedule to start Lyme disease treatment (Benemicin/rifampicine150mg and Minocycline 50mg - twice daily for both), and as I did not put any thought to an STD, I started the treatment. Some kind of yeast infection/thrush appeared on head of penis and foreskin few days later and went away only after I started applying canesten on the area. A week later my testicles started to hurt a bit.
948349 tn?1294380237 Hi all. So the lyme docs have diagnosed Lyme, Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. It has just been over 3 months now since I have been infected. Does anyone have any ideas on what the best possible early treatment should be? I was literally taking minocycline 3 days after being infected 200 mg a day. I am still taking 100 mg twice a day to this point. One month in I started banderol/samento which helped. I cranked up to 30 drops of each twice per day.
428506 tn?1296557399 David Jernigan, author of several books on lyme disease, recommends a natural test on his website to help find out if your thyroid needs support.
Avatar n tn I do not get classic migraine, but do get migraine auras and other pressure headaches from my Lyme disease. 4. There are alternative treatments, again, an LLMD could advise you. However, what comes to mind is that your antibiotic treatment could have been incomplete and/or too short. A hypothesis is that chronic Lyme patients are co-infected with other illnesses carried by ticks. These other infections may not respond to the same antibiotics that kill the Lyme bacteria.

Avatar m tn and it is terrible that the medical community is in such disarray in dealing with Lyme disease. There is much confusion and denial about Lyme, which was 'discovered' only a couple of decades ago, and the first MDs to focus on it are still on the job -- unfortunately, these same MDs seem to have locked on to their initial impressions of Lyme diagnosis and treatment, and their egos seem to be in the way even as science has continued to learn more about Lyme.
737143 tn?1232824698 I was tested +ve for lyme in july. Avatar m tn Started Minocycline 100mg 2x per day for suspected neuro Lyme and feel horrible. I know herx is possible, but feel more like I'm experiencing side effects, and wondering if I should switch abx. How long should I stick with this? Anyone have success with Minocycline? Do the side effects lessen with time?
280418 tn?1306325910 All my friends with Lyme are going to him and he treats them. I had either a herx or an allergic reaction to minocycline, so he stopped treating me since then. He won't even throw me a bone and give me some doxy. Tomorrow is D-Day for me, I am going to tell him that I want to be treated, or I'm not coming back until he decides to. There is nowhere else to go from here - the only abnormal tests I have are Lyme tests, so duh.
867582 tn?1311627397 Over the years I have had positive Lyme screen tests (B. burgdorferi Ab, IgG, IgM) but then the ensuing Western Blot tests to back it up were both negative. The lab indicated that this could mean I have autoimmune disease causing a false-positive Lyme, but my CRP and sed rates are always normal so I was told I could not have autoimmune disease.
Avatar f tn Here is a great article about food interactions with drugs sometimes used to treat Lyme and coinfections. I have been on a few of the meds listed in the artIcle, and I was unaware of these conflicts, especially dairy / calcium with the tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Minocycline) & fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin). It also mentions that caffeine, and therefore chocolate, can interfere with some antibiotics, but then doesn't say which ones. http://health.yahoo.
