Avatar m tn Hello, Fusidic acid and minocycline are both antibiotics which are used for the treatment of acne. Treatment options include topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar f tn I am much improved compared to before treatment. I paused treatment earlier this summer due to life circumstances. When I resumed treatment, I seemed to have a bad reaction to mino, and I felt more sick than I had been in a long while. So I am not taking it anymore, but I only ran into that trouble after using it for well over a year. You may notice some increased sensitivity to the sun while on mino, but it is not that bad.
Avatar f tn I think you should check with your dermatologist both about the duration of minocycline and the choice of cream. At the end of the day, you should be completely clear, though. Best. Dr.
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar m tn There are very good antipsycotics to help ease the symptoms you have described. I have read a few posts where people have experienced your type of problems as well. Treatment for hepc is very very difficult for some and no two people are effected exactly the same. I hope in time you find a solution that benefits you long term.
Avatar m tn Triple medication treatment of Interferon, Ribavirin, and a Protease Inhibitor (either Teleprvir or Boceprevir) are now the standard of care for treatment of Genotype 1. The length of treatment depends on your past response to treatment. I am not sure in which country you live and if the new protease inhibitors are available where you live. If they are available then it would be important to discuss treating with the triple medication regimen with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Hi, The adverse effects from minocycline hydrochloride treatment are uncommon, but there are few reported cases of hyperpigmentation as a side effect of its use. The cutaneous hyperpigmentation usually resolves after cessation of the drug. Tooth discoloration, however, generally remains. Pigmentation associated with minocycline most often appears in patients after long-term therapy, usually at doses greater than 100 mg per day.

Avatar m tn Welcome to MedHelp Lyme -- sorry to hear about all you are going through. The first item on your list is 'extensive blood work.' One of the oddities of Lyme diagnosis, treatment and management is that the blood tests given to determine whether someone has Lyme (and/or other infections carried by the 'Lyme' tick) are not very accurate and can easily miss finding infection(s) that the patient truly has.
Avatar m tn I was treated first for babesia, and then for Lyme, using different medications for each infection. Length of treatment is usually measured in months, not weeks or days, due to the slow reproductive cycle of the Lyme bacteria, which are most susceptible to antibiotics when the bacteria themselves are reproducing and the cell wall is breached. Burrascano's Guidelines can give information on that point and others.
Avatar m tn s cardiologist told her that long term use of minocycline or any of the antibiotics of the cycline family will burn the valves in your legs that control the flow of blood back and forth. Instead of a one way street for your blood to flow down from your artery in your leg and back up through your veins it now becomes a two way street because your valve isn't working. The problem is she has to keep taking it for chronic Lyme disease.
Avatar f tn m sorry you are continuing to worry about the possibility of infection. The minocycline you are taking for acne would have reduced your risk for infection if you were taking it at the time of exposure. As far as treatment is concerned, minocycline can cure chlamydia but the dose you are taking is a bit lower than what might be recommended for chlamydial infection. Nonetheless, if you were infected and tool the drug for a month as you have, I would expect it to cure chlamydia.
Avatar f tn Hello, Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used.
Avatar f tn I would pretreat with 2 weeks of minocycline and then go with 2 weeks of Lefamulin followed by 2 more weeks of minocycline.
Avatar n tn Since my episode, I have taken 45 doses of 100 mg Minocycline in connection with my treatment for acne. I have read that taking antibiotics can affect syphilis test results. If I test for syphilis, will my minocycline medication lead to an inaccurate result? Furthermore, would the minocycline eradicate the syphilis from my body?
Avatar m tn I am having burning sensation in eye (one eye only) for the past 5 months & it worsens when watching computer/TV particularly in high temperature rooms (due to hot climate) & went to several ophthalmologist for a cure, some told me its due to over secretion of meibomian oil, probably due to dandruff & as a treatment gave topical antibiotic+corticosteroids to apply it on lid margins for 10 days.but the problem is not clearing up.

Avatar m tn Thanks in advance for your response. I'm a 19 year old male that had a potential exposure 5 months ago with a female who is known to get around. The sex was unprotected. For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
Avatar m tn First of all, diagnosis needs to be established as that will affect the choice of treatment and prognosis. Based on information provided, Folliculitis, Hydradenitis supurativa, and Acne inversa should be taken into consideration first. Please, let us know what diagnostic tools were/are utilized by your physicians and with what conclusions. Second, preventative measures can be of great help. Avoid: shaving with dull razor, friction, exposure to occlusive chemicals and sweat.
