Avatar n tn d been there longer then normal. Months maybe. He informed me about minocycline induced hyprepigmentation and advised me to call my derm dr. asap. I did as soon as I got home and she took me off the mino immediately. Later that week I was brushing my teeth and happened to venture up a little further and noticed my upper gum line looked funny. I rinsed my mouth out and pulled up my upper lip to expose my gum line. And there it was...blue gums!!! I called my derm dr.
507935 tn?1217359454 My 18 year old daughter was diagnosed with minocycline induced AIH last October. She was taking minocycline for acne. Her situation sounds very similar to yours. I sent a message to your inbox, thought you may want to correspond with any specific questions you may have.
Avatar m tn However it should be used under medical supervision and there are many side effects. Accutane increases the sensitivity of skin to sunlight and also causes hyperpigmentation as its side effect. Usually it goes away after you stop the medicine but it goes away very gradually and may take several months to go away. In some cases it is irreversible and may not go away.
Avatar f tn Hi, Hyperpigmentation Removal treatments are used to eradicate darkened areas of the skin which may result from hormones, sun damage, injuries, skin-type characteristics, medications and more. Hyperpigmentation lesions can be anything from melasma/cholasma often attributed to pregnancy or hormonal imbalances to freckles.
Avatar n tn My AIH was induced by an antibiotis called Macrobid.
Avatar n tn The treatments vary from melanin blocking agents combined with topical medications such as Retin A which causes the body to exfoliate the skin to rid the body of the hyperpigmentation while prohibiting new melanin production to laser treatments. The treatments wholly depend upon your needs and skin type. For standard non-hormone induced hyperpigmentations Hydroquinone usually reduces or removes hyperpigmentations very effectively. It is a bleaching agent.
Avatar m tn The only meds I am on now are Allegra, Zantac and just ending a four week round of Minocycline. If this is possibly from Minocycline, how long does it take for a drug induced rash to go away?
Avatar n tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough, but it can be due to hyperpigmentation of the skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. Treatment involves hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment. Pls discuss these options with your dermatologist before using them.

Avatar m tn I went to two different dermatologists and both prescribed regular acne medications (topicals and minocycline) which did not help. When I finally made the connection to exercise, I stopped exercising completely and my skin completely cleared up. Every time I try mentioning the exercise thing to my doctor they say to just make sure I wash my face afterwards (trust me, I'm doing that!).
Avatar n tn I notice that you have suggested oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs to combat perioral dermatitis. I've been suffering from this condition for about 2 years. I was pregnant when I was diagnosed with it and my doctor was only comfortable prescribing a topical antibiotic. This did very little to help the condition.
Avatar n tn Other differentials considered are fungal infection, scleroderma, and subungual malignant melanoma. In the treatment of Longitudinal Melanonychia the hyperpigmentation of the skin and nails induced by medication such as doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide and hydroxyurea can be reversed back to normal. Treatment may depend on the underlying cause. Longitudinal Melanonychia needs to be evaluated by biopsy to corroborate if it is benign finding rather than a sign of subungual melanoma.
Avatar n tn I'm ravi kumar I've same problem a black line in middle of my nose. Doctors say that this is hyperpigmentation this isn't any birth mark. But my mummy has this black line on her nose as well & her family members means my meternal family have the same problem. Doctors said it appeared due to ultrviloet rays of the sun. It can't remove completely & they were not sure that it might be reduce or might be not. I face embaracement just because of this.
Avatar n tn I've had a truly hideous sun damage/hormonal brown hyperpigmentation problem on my face for 8 years now. The worst part is that my acne, impetigo and chicken pox scars are snow white and so the total effect is terribly uneven and very, very obvious - I feel like a very ugly Smartie box. So many dermatologists, so much sunblock, so many prescribed peroxide creams and absolutely no permanent result. Temporary, minor fading is the extent of efficacy.
Avatar n tn ve probably got steroid induced Rosacea. I am currently taking erythromycin antibiotic tablets to help with the inflammation. Can anyone please suggest anything else that may help me? Should I have weened myself off the steroid cream gradually?
Avatar f tn Can prolonged bright light shined into the eye cause hyperpigmentation of the retina and the choroidal? If so does the hyperpigmentation all so effect pigmentnts in the iris?
Avatar m tn Hello Peter, It usually helps us if you have a question or want to share a potential risk. Please see a physician for the correct dosage and correct diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
