Avatar n tn Has anyone ever successfully used antibiotics (minocycline, etc.) for Psoriatic Arthritis? Please share.
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get some advice on a skin problem I've been having. I'm a 25 year old female and about 4 years ago I started really exercising for the first time. As soon as I started working out, my skin began breaking out with large, cystic, painful pimples that would appear anywhere from a few hours to a couple days after exercise. I went to two different dermatologists and both prescribed regular acne medications (topicals and minocycline) which did not help.

Avatar m tn I have been on Minocycline for coming up 9 years now and i'm currently down to one 50mg pill a day to control my acne, my question is what effects does it have on my cognitive ability and memory over such a long period of time.
Avatar f tn We decided to use a topical cream, for the more oily areas on my face, and for me to take a 100mg dosage of Apo-Minocycline two times a day (morning and night). This worked fantastic for a few months. Eventually, I developed this odd rash on one side of my neck. The skin was very red and dry, somewhat scaly/bumpy, a bit raised, uneven + about the size/shape of my thumb. It kind of itched/hurt as well. I wasn't sure if it was connected to my skincare or not, so I continued with my routine.
Avatar f tn is there a way to reduce or remove the large scale blackening of my skin, and is this a common side effect of long term antibiotics, such as minocycline or levaquin? Is there a better oral antibiotic (than minocycline) for trteating staphaureas? Should I accept this discoloration?
Avatar n tn I have heard that my skin could be going through withdrawl from the steroid cream. Is this normal for my skin to get worse before it gets better using this type of antibiotic? Will it get better using this Minocycline.
Avatar m tn The only meds I am on now are Allegra, Zantac and just ending a four week round of Minocycline. If this is possibly from Minocycline, how long does it take for a drug induced rash to go away?
Avatar n tn I notice that you have suggested oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs to combat perioral dermatitis. I've been suffering from this condition for about 2 years. I was pregnant when I was diagnosed with it and my doctor was only comfortable prescribing a topical antibiotic. This did very little to help the condition.
Avatar n tn Hi Can anyone, please give me any advice, Ive been taking minocycline tablets for 5 months and have just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant the last few days I increased the dose to 200mg as my skin was terrible. I am now worried sick that I have caused fetal damage to my nuborn baby. Can anyone advise me what to do Thank you.
Avatar n tn He seemed to think it was a type of acne and has given me minocycline. If I do have KP or chicken skin is this an effective medication? The bumps are very hard to squeeze and if they are squeezable a very small amount of white stuff comes out. which resembles a fine string. Any ideas? Diagnosis?
Avatar f tn I have been on Zoloft for about 7 months now, after dealing with crippling anxiety and depression. this medicine really worked wonders! recently I was put on Minocycline for my chronic forehead and shoulder acne, and I was all for the idea of clear skin, whether I had to take pills or not. ever since, slowly but surely, my anxiety is making a reappearance, along with my depression, both of which I thought were long gone.
Avatar f tn For 3 weeks I never thought that the Minocycline had anything to do with what was happening to me. I was so desperate for my skin to clear up that it had never even occurred to me that I was severely allergic to the Minocycline. Until, I went to stay with my mom for the weekend because the depression was too much for me to handle. I needed to see her. I expalined everything and she saw my skin and how badly I was itching.
494623 tn?1278279352 I have a Friend in Canada who has been on Minocycline for her RA for years and says she could not function without it,I asked my Doctor to prescribe this for me but he says it's not proven to be effective so wouldn't give me it !!! I have read that it IS effective not as a cure but by killing the bacteria that may be causing the RA symptoms. I am totally convinced it was the MRSA infection that caused my RA in the first place as I was absolutely fine before that happened ....
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CRP after years of trying the shampoo and typical fungal treatments. I must be one of the lucky ones, because after seeing a dermatologist and getting on minocycline, I have been pretty much CRP free for about 5 yrs now. I have one little brown spot on each side of my armpit area, and that's it. Oh, and I only took the minocycline for about 6 months. I know for some people, they have to take it continually in order to prevent reoccurance.
Avatar n tn i have a two really big red rashes on either side of my mouth, my dermatologists said it was perioral dermititus. I was on doxy for 2 months, and then minocyline for 3 months, and still these red rashed are still there bigger than ever. just wanted to know if this red rash will go away ever, and do i need roaccutane again. (was on it about 2.
Avatar n tn I recommend that you have this and other symptoms such as your nails turning blue , evaluated by your doctor for proper management. There are other options for your skin discoloration such as bleaching products and even laser treatment. Talk to your doctor which is suited for you. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, for about the last year probably, I have had really wierd skin pigmentation problems. My hands and face are constantly really red, and the only relief for my hands is to hold them above my head for awhile, and that relieves it for a about a minute. My whole face is really red to, and stops at my neck. I do have acne, and have been on Accutane for about 4.5 months. I dont know if this may be the problem or what else?
Avatar f tn I have had this skin irritation for a while. At first i thought it was acne but it hasn't gone away. It seems to get really dry and stings a little when I try to get rid of the dry skin. Please help!!
Avatar f tn I am on minocycline and it says some stuff about peoples skin being itchy but not very much about scalp itching. It is mostly on the back of my head. I dont know if it is lice or anything else. It is really annoying. Any help?
Avatar n tn over that time i have been experiencing acne on my face and developed cysts under the jaw bone on both sides of my mouth. The dermatologist gave me amoxicilliyn for about 2 years which cleared up the cysts and acne. I stopped taking amoxicil. for 7 months and went to another dermatologist who put me on minocycline. but i feel that the cysts are coming back.
Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
