Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be a viral infection or impetigo. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist for your friend and get a biopsy skin or culture of the fluid from the sores done. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn I've been suffering with a very strange skin infection for the past 6 months. In October 2009, I caught a very bad case of impetigo, and was given antibiotics to combat it. In a couple weeks it cleared up, but in less than a week after treatment my skin broke out with these oozing, golden crusts once again. The dermatologist I was seeing prescribed all sorts of antibiotics to try to cure me, but all served to be only temporarily effective.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your response. I very much appreciate the help. If possible I would like to ask a few follow-up questions. I actually used Fucidin H Cream for a 1 week period earlier this summer as prescribed by my general practitioner and it did not help my condition at all, at which point I switched back to the Tropicort, which cleared it up quite quickly, only to come back again of course.
Avatar m tn t helping, so I returned, and my doctor assured me that my Impetigo was cured and I just needed to wait for the blisters/ulcers to heal. Though, he did give me an extension for my Keflex subscription anyway. Two weeks later, I returned again. This time I was prescribed Minocycline (oral; once a day) and Fucidin cream (topical). After ten days of trying this, it didn't seem to be helping either.
Avatar f tn So, impetigo isn't really something you treat with over the counter products. It typically requires a prescription from a doctor of a topical antibiotic (like a cream you put on) or a pill if it is systemic (through body). It's basically a staph or strep infection of the skin. And it IS contagious. It's important he receive prompt attention (especially since you are mentioning his eye lid involved) but it needs to be a prescription of antibiotics from a doctor.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever successfully used antibiotics (minocycline, etc.) for Psoriatic Arthritis? Please share.
494623 tn?1278279352 I have a Friend in Canada who has been on Minocycline for her RA for years and says she could not function without it,I asked my Doctor to prescribe this for me but he says it's not proven to be effective so wouldn't give me it !!! I have read that it IS effective not as a cure but by killing the bacteria that may be causing the RA symptoms. I am totally convinced it was the MRSA infection that caused my RA in the first place as I was absolutely fine before that happened ....
Avatar m tn Earlier this afternoon (july 7th), i ended up going to urgent care and the doctor said i had impetigo, and he wrote me up a prescription for antibiotic ointment (Mupirocin Ointment USP, 2%) and sent me on my way. I still have some questions though! 1.) i read that impetigo is highly contagious. How contagious is it? i always wash my hands after i apply the ointment, and I don't touch the area at all, except when im putting the ointment on. 2.
Avatar n tn Hi Are you taking any medications for this? With the way you describe the skin condition, this sounds like impetigo. "Impetigo starts as a red sore that quickly ruptures, oozes for a few days and then forms a yellowish-brown crust that looks like honey or brown sugar. The disease is highly contagious, and scratching or touching the sores is likely to spread the infection to other parts of the body as well as to other people." Source:http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar f tn impetigo has nothing to do with HIV. What was your possible exposure?
Avatar f tn My daughter had impetigo several weeks back. She was treated with a cream and oral antibiotics. The area has healed. However, she has and pigmented discolored area exactly the same size as where her impetigo spot was. Will this go away? How long will it take? Is this normal and is there anything we can do to help this area return to its natural skin color.
Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
Avatar m tn I took minocycline with rifampin for my Bart's. I had no problems with it.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar m tn Hi, im peter i have bacterial infection in my mouth, i used MINOCYCLINE 100mg for past 2 day but yet not cured. i got it from online shop International Drug Mart This discussion is related to minocycline.
Avatar n tn I just recently noticed a small area inside my right nostril that appears to either be impetigo or a cold sore. This looks like a cold sore, but after reading on internet, it sounds like odds are it is more likely impetigo. It started as a pimple like lesion and looks more like a flat/slightly raised brown crusty lesion? Please help me figure this out, or give me more info on what this could be, so I know whether to go right in to see a doctor. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am worried because I went out in the sun for about 4 weeks straight after the impetigo cleared up and that is why i think the hyper pigmentation change will be permanent. I got Impetigo the first week of April, and its now the end of May, so it has been 8 weeks and the red marks are still there and are very pinkish/redish in color. Therefore, my questions are, 1) Is this color change normal after impetigo? 2) Will this pigment change go back to its original color ?
1562256 tn?1384459598 Hey my 6 year old child when she was a baby use to get Impetigo all the time... Last time she had it was when she was about 4. Well I think this is Impetigo. Tell me what you think. It like showed up in one day.
Avatar m tn he said since i been taking minocycline 100 mg daily for 2 years and using the retin a micro 0.1% for 2 years and im still breaking out i should try something new like it may be wearing off....he put me on oracea 40mg once a day and differin gel 0.3%....i was reading the paper that comes with oracea~doxycycline and it says it doesnt kill bacteria now im getting worried because minocycline does kill bacteria now im worried i will break out more from the oracea.
Avatar m tn I have all of the symptoms, no money to get tested. I do have some old minocycline and tetracycline from old acne.
Avatar m tn You can take a duo test right now since it is after 28 days for a conclusive result. Impetigo is highly infectious and you interact with others so there is no reason to try to narrow it down to her. Everyone posts their ARS symptoms here but so far no one has had ArS since I have been here, so doctors don't diagnose from symptoms, just tests.
