Avatar m tn So they are unrelated. Secondly minocycline is an antibiotic used for bacterial infection and not viral ones. Hence if you had improvement after minocycyline then possibility is that it is bacterial. To confirm the diagnosis, it is better to get a culture sensitivity of the bumps and to rule out any fungal infection, get a KOH examination of the skin scrapings of the bumps done. This will confirm the diagnosis and specific treatment can be planned.
Avatar n tn Dear sir/madam, I am writing this letter to get advice and help regarding my scalp folliculitis. I’ve had this condition for the past 6 years. I’ve tried different treatments including antibiotics like Amoxicillin, erythromycin, minocycline, tetracycline, doxicycline, & ciprofloxacin each course taken for at least 6 months to 1 year. I have also tried topical treatment like Fucidin, Mupirocin, clindamycin and gentamicin.
Avatar n tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as neomycin and calamine are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.
Avatar m tn For the last two years, I have been having a recurring pimple appear on my groin. It usually is red/white and can be irritating and slightly itchy not painful. I have probably been to the Doctor's office twice and to two different Planned Parenthood's twice in the last two years and have been told it was genital herpes at first, but then have no antibodies in my blood test for hsv 1 or 2.
Avatar f tn Since July 2017 I have been dealing with bad outbreaks of folliculitis on my chest and neck. The first time was a reaction from a tea tree oil acne line I tried out, but the times after that seem to be a mystery. I have been on and off antibiotics for this, including cephalexin (twice) and minocycline. My skin clears up on the medication but it breaks out again about week after treatment ends.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be infected hair follicles or folliculitis. Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). My sincere suggestion would be to get the discharge from the bumps cultured so as to confirm whether it is bacterial infection and if yes then to what antibiotics the bacteria are sensitive.
Avatar m tn The dermatologist said it was foliculitis and put me on minocycline (50mg twice a day for three months), however, a month into the course the problem flared up again. My dermatologist then prescribed purbac double strength (trimethporim sulphamethoxazolen twice a day for two months). This worked, however two days after the course ended i started to break out again. I feel like im in a cycle of antibiotics, and my social life has completely disintegrated.
Avatar m tn Prior to Accutane I was on Bactrim and Minocycline for entirely too long (mino for about two years, then bactrim for about two, and then mino again for two more years). Outside of the occasional red mark which more closely resembles a pimple that is not terribly sore, and a case of jock itch every so often, I have no reason to suspect that I have an STD such as herpes. But I'm still concerned.
Avatar m tn Recently, I went on a vacation and stayed at some hotels. I've used some of the travel size body washes that were in the hotel. On this same trip I had oral sex a few times that I gave and received. The person that I slept with wouldn't have knowingly gave me something intentionally. I never mentioned it because I don't want to make a big deal about something that can be as simple as a heat rash. I'm trying to go through my head what it could be.
Avatar m tn I have tried all antibiotics which did help especially minocycline but not for long normally for a few weeks. These days antibiotics dont help unless I havent been on them for a long time. I also tried bp which did kill the pustules at start but does not any more. I had a punch skin biopsy done which didnt give a conclusive result. Also I have had a swab test which came back as 'no result'. I also don a food allergy test which showed no allergy to anything.
Avatar m tn the bactrim seemed to be the only thing that would take the folliculitis completely away, but after 3-4 days off bactrim it would come back even after 6 months on bactrim… I then got switched to minocycline for long term therapy, been on this about 1 year, and taking anywhere from 50mg a day to 200mg if it flares. it's a constant battle. it seems to flare every week. it's annoying, exhausting and painful to sleep on my pillow at night.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever successfully used antibiotics (minocycline, etc.) for Psoriatic Arthritis? Please share.
Avatar m tn In February, I got retested again and it came back negative for both. I went to a dermatologist and he prescribed me solodyn (minocycline) for folliculitis and said that most likely that is what it is. Recently I experienced the same bumps on the same side of my lower lip where my lip meets my skin. I went to get it tested today and the doctor did not test for herpes, but said that it most likely was herpes.
494623 tn?1278279352 I have a Friend in Canada who has been on Minocycline for her RA for years and says she could not function without it,I asked my Doctor to prescribe this for me but he says it's not proven to be effective so wouldn't give me it !!! I have read that it IS effective not as a cure but by killing the bacteria that may be causing the RA symptoms. I am totally convinced it was the MRSA infection that caused my RA in the first place as I was absolutely fine before that happened ....
Avatar f tn In that time, I also learned a good bit about folliculitis. I am on long term minocycline for acne, so I am theoretically less likely to get common superficial folliculitis with staph aureus. I do not know about the strep though. Would you recommend I finish the remaining 7 days of erythromycin 500mg bid. I took it initially for 3 days and then have not for the past 2 days. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar m tn I have seen 3 different dermatologists and have tried Minocycline, Erithromicine, and now bactrim. Also, I have tried applying retin-a, tazarac, Clindagel, and Benzaclin. The bactrim alone seems to keep the problem at bay when I initially use it but then it seems as thought the potency wears off and the problem returns. I have also tried hormone replacement therapy to the tune of $1,100/month, changing my diet and every over the counter product you can buy at a dug store.
Avatar n tn I have been to two doctors (general practice) and one issued me Minocycline and the other told me to try Sarna Cream and buy a Humidifier. Well, obviously that didnt work because I am posting here today on the internet. I would greatly apprecaite any help/advice and my anxiety is really getting the best of me! (Thinking its possibly herpes).
Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
Avatar m tn I took minocycline with rifampin for my Bart's. I had no problems with it.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar m tn Hi, im peter i have bacterial infection in my mouth, i used MINOCYCLINE 100mg for past 2 day but yet not cured. i got it from online shop International Drug Mart This discussion is related to minocycline.
