I have been on Minocycline for acne for well over a year. Usually I take 50mg twice a day, although for the last month have been on 75mg twice a day. If by some freak chance I had rectally contracted Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, would this antibiotic take care of it?
I had random unprotected vaginal sex. 2-3 weeks after, although my symptoms were mild and there was no discharge, I went to get checked for STDs. Had to force my doc to test me for at least chlamydia. Tested "weak positive" for chlamydia on urine test. He put me 3 days 1g Zythromax. A week later my symptoms were still not 100% gone, and went back. Doc looked at my urine, said no white blood cells in urine, but decided to put me on 2 weeks of Minocycline 50mg twice daily.
Hi - Minocycline may give you a false negative on an STD test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. (Any antibiotic would.)
Depending on the dose, it may cure gonorrhea, though there is some resistance to it now with certain strains of gonorrhea. It MAY prevent you from getting it, but the studies done that showed it would are quite old, and were done before resistance.
All that said, oral sex is lower risk, even for men who have sex with men.
The man was mid to late 30s, no marks on his body or penis, had been tested 8 months ago, and had one partner other than me since then who was a close friend. I haven't had any symptoms since then, but I'm still worried. Personally, I feel my risk level is low but it doesn't hurt to check.

t say whether or not you were tested and your symptoms were known for sure to be due to chlamydia. But for purposes of this response, I will assume you indeed had chlamydia. And even if you had nonchlamydial, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), the reply would be the same. Your doctor treated you for both chlamydia (or NGU) and for gonorrhea (the Suprax).
The doctor said I most probably had chlamydia or gonorrhea, and as I am allergic to penicillin, he prescribed me 100mg of Minocycline, twice daily, for 10 days. Symptoms seemed to reduce, but after a week I still had a prolonged uncomfortable sensation in the urethra as well as redness around the end of the penis. I also now had conjunctivitis in both eyes! I should also mention that in the meantime I had read that Minocycline is not very effective for Gonorrhea (50%).
I have been clean 100% since after being cured of chlamydia via minocycline and have had no problems with my stomach, but as soon as I let her give me unprotected oral, I started feeling the same stomach issued I did last year after she gave me unprotected oral. This is how I know that she is without a doubt infected, but she just cries or gets angry, defensive when I try to explain that she is infected even if her urine test came up negative.
Has anyone ever successfully used antibiotics (minocycline, etc.) for Psoriatic Arthritis? Please share.
The dr did give me an rx for a 10-day course of Minocycline (sp?) in case the Bactrim did not work and I have chlamydia. As well as two fluconazole tablets to take after I had completed the antibiotic treatment in case of potential yeast overgrowth while on the antibiotics. But…the Bactrim seems to have worked based on the much lower white blood cell count in my urine and significantly lessened symptoms. And he said if it was an STD, the Bactrim wouldn’t have done anything.
Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects.
Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).

I took minocycline with rifampin for my Bart's. I had no problems with it.
I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! he said since i been taking minocycline 100 mg daily for 2 years and using the retin a micro 0.1% for 2 years and im still breaking out i should try something new like it may be wearing off....he put me on oracea 40mg once a day and differin gel 0.3%....i was reading the paper that comes with oracea~doxycycline and it says it doesnt kill bacteria now im getting worried because minocycline does kill bacteria now im worried i will break out more from the oracea.

I started minocycline feb 10 and conceived my baby feb 21 but i didnt stop the medicine until march 9 ( only because i didnt know i was preg) im 7 weeks now and i just wanna know has anybody else expericed this with a positive outcome ?
The testing came back yesterday and I was positive for urine Gonorrhea, negative for oral, rectal, and HIV. Shypillis was still pending.
Last Saturday 24 hours after I was injected with antibiotics and taken large pills I had protected vaginal sex, and she performed brief oral sex on me with no ejaculation with same partner who is still on Minocycline. This was stupid but I thought I was clear with Minocycline.
I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?
I am not aware of any information that suggests that minocycline, or for that matter, any other antibiotic acts to either increase risk for HIV acquisition or would modify the performance of tests for HIV. Current tests for HIV look for antibodies. Antibody production in response to infection is not changed by antibiotics, menses or any of the other factors. The results of HIV antibody tests are to be believe.
So quick background:
Ever since I sucked on my lips while concentrating last August I've had problems. For months it was just little zit looking things on my lipline with redness and flakes, only one to three at a time. ve read on here that a person taking PEP should test after 3 months of being off PEP to obtain a conclusive result. I took minocycline for 4 months after possible exposure. Then got tested 3 and a half weeks later (around 5 months). Negative result. The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again?
