Has anyone ever successfully used antibiotics (minocycline, etc.) for Psoriatic Arthritis? Please share.

I have taken Sulfasalazine which did not work and have taken Minocycline for 4 years. The Minocycline has eradicated many of the symptoms but not the most severe. I am convinced the disease is bacterial and have tried a number of antibiotic combinations to no avail. After reading up on it alot it seems that many arthritis conditions are caused by bacteria that, once in the joint create bio films that can not be broken down by Antibiotics.

I have arthritis, have had it for years. I am only 38, but it has grown to other parts of my body in the several years since first diagnosed. How can I find out what kind of arthritis it is? When I ask the nurse one time she told me I would have to undergo testing to find this out. Is there any other way?

I took Minocycline for 6 days and had a bad reaction towards ,,,, numbness(pins and needles) in feet and both joint and muscle pain in hands and feet. I also had some nerve issue in my feet and itching. I stopped taking it and it's been 5 weeks and I still have these aggravated symptoms. Have you heard from these side effects lasting so long after stopping the medication?

yeah but that's a random therapy they don't even know why it helps some people with RA. it's not worth taking antibiotics only for a small improvement you said you had weakness in the legs, what happened to it? don't take the antibiotics, you could have something that will heal spontaneously when your immune system adjusts itself to whatever thing you caught (probably a virus) antibiotics are meant to work only against bacteria.

therapy right now.I have been on minocycline for two years, but have also been on prednisone, I recently read prednisone will keep antibiotic from working like it should.please, if anyone has gotten any pain relief and is as damaged as I am, please let me know.I am also on a pain patch and pain pills, as well as plaquenil, because I test positive for lupus.I am in Ned most of the time, and am still in horrifying pain!

I have a Friend in Canada who has been on Minocycline for her RA for years and says she could not function without it,I asked my Doctor to prescribe this for me but he says it's not proven to be effective so wouldn't give me it !!! I have read that it IS effective not as a cure but by killing the bacteria that may be causing the RA symptoms. I am totally convinced it was the MRSA infection that caused my RA in the first place as I was absolutely fine before that happened ....

I took minocycline with rifampin for my Bart's. I had no problems with it.

Well, I have suspected I had some form of arthritis for years. It started in my lower back and I had several bad flares that put me in bed and no one believed me. I am not aware of any information that suggests that minocycline, or for that matter, any other antibiotic acts to either increase risk for HIV acquisition or would modify the performance of tests for HIV. Current tests for HIV look for antibodies. Antibody production in response to infection is not changed by antibiotics, menses or any of the other factors. The results of HIV antibody tests are to be believe.

ve read on here that a person taking PEP should test after 3 months of being off PEP to obtain a conclusive result. I took minocycline for 4 months after possible exposure. Then got tested 3 and a half weeks later (around 5 months). Negative result. The test was a rapid antibody test.
