Avatar f tn I have been on Minocycline for acne for well over a year. Usually I take 50mg twice a day, although for the last month have been on 75mg twice a day. If by some freak chance I had rectally contracted Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, would this antibiotic take care of it?
Avatar n tn I had random unprotected vaginal sex. 2-3 weeks after, although my symptoms were mild and there was no discharge, I went to get checked for STDs. Had to force my doc to test me for at least chlamydia. Tested "weak positive" for chlamydia on urine test. He put me 3 days 1g Zythromax. A week later my symptoms were still not 100% gone, and went back. Doc looked at my urine, said no white blood cells in urine, but decided to put me on 2 weeks of Minocycline 50mg twice daily.
Avatar n tn t say whether or not you were tested and your symptoms were known for sure to be due to chlamydia. But for purposes of this response, I will assume you indeed had chlamydia. And even if you had nonchlamydial, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), the reply would be the same. Your doctor treated you for both chlamydia (or NGU) and for gonorrhea (the Suprax).
Avatar n tn The testing came back yesterday and I was positive for urine Gonorrhea, negative for oral, rectal, and HIV. Shypillis was still pending. Last Saturday 24 hours after I was injected with antibiotics and taken large pills I had protected vaginal sex, and she performed brief oral sex on me with no ejaculation with same partner who is still on Minocycline. This was stupid but I thought I was clear with Minocycline.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what the suggested dosage would be. Also, I was wondering if anyone ever tried acupuncture with any success. I would appreciate any advice.
Avatar m tn Hi, im peter i have bacterial infection in my mouth, i used MINOCYCLINE 100mg for past 2 day but yet not cured. i got it from online shop International Drug Mart This discussion is related to minocycline.
Avatar m tn Hi. I was diagnosed with chlamydia around 3 months ago. I took the two 500mg dosage used at the health center. I fear my girlfriend may still be infected and that we are passing the infection back and forth. My local pharmacist gave us a regular zpack to treat both of us. He directed us to take two 250mg tablets once daily for three days. Will this cure chlamydia or should I take a higher dosage?
Avatar m tn Hi - Minocycline may give you a false negative on an STD test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. (Any antibiotic would.) Depending on the dose, it may cure gonorrhea, though there is some resistance to it now with certain strains of gonorrhea. It MAY prevent you from getting it, but the studies done that showed it would are quite old, and were done before resistance. All that said, oral sex is lower risk, even for men who have sex with men.
Avatar m tn The man was mid to late 30s, no marks on his body or penis, had been tested 8 months ago, and had one partner other than me since then who was a close friend. I haven't had any symptoms since then, but I'm still worried. Personally, I feel my risk level is low but it doesn't hurt to check. 1.) I was told that a urine test would help detect oral chlamydia and gonorrhea as after the two week mark it would have entered my blood stream. Is this true? 2.
Avatar f tn Hi, when my dermatologist increased my dosage to 100 mg a day i started getting really sick. Chronic headaches, mostly concentrated behind my eyes which can't break no matter what I take (Ive been prescribed 800mg of ibuprofen, 800mg of naproxen, 15mg of promethazine, 4mg of zofran, and 5mg of prednisone, Ive even tried excedrin, NOTHING HAS WORKED), nausea so bad I sit in the bathroom half the day vomiting, ringing in my ears and dizziness so bad I can't stand up.
Avatar f tn Is there a better oral antibiotic (than minocycline) for trteating staphaureas? Should I accept this discoloration?
Avatar m tn The doctor said I most probably had chlamydia or gonorrhea, and as I am allergic to penicillin, he prescribed me 100mg of Minocycline, twice daily, for 10 days. Symptoms seemed to reduce, but after a week I still had a prolonged uncomfortable sensation in the urethra as well as redness around the end of the penis. I also now had conjunctivitis in both eyes! I should also mention that in the meantime I had read that Minocycline is not very effective for Gonorrhea (50%).
Avatar n tn I asked him if he would prescribe me treatment for gonorreah and chlamydia whilst I wait for the results as I am going out of my mind with worry. He advised against this but gave me a prescription of Azithromycin, with 500mg dosage twice a day for three days. In all my research online, I have read that the recommended dosage is 1g of Azithromycin taken once. Is the dosage I was prescribed as effective?
737143 tn?1232824698 After listening to my symptoms of rash they did said that I am not sensitive to the antibiotics. It seems that my antibiotic is working for me. So I started taking Minocycline since last wednesday and I am feeling ok, I mean I did not get any itchy or rash. If everything goes fine then from tomorrow I will be starating Azithromycin also. So I will be on 2 antibiotics.
Avatar f tn We decided to use a topical cream, for the more oily areas on my face, and for me to take a 100mg dosage of Apo-Minocycline two times a day (morning and night). This worked fantastic for a few months. Eventually, I developed this odd rash on one side of my neck. The skin was very red and dry, somewhat scaly/bumpy, a bit raised, uneven + about the size/shape of my thumb. It kind of itched/hurt as well. I wasn't sure if it was connected to my skincare or not, so I continued with my routine.
Avatar m tn I have been clean 100% since after being cured of chlamydia via minocycline and have had no problems with my stomach, but as soon as I let her give me unprotected oral, I started feeling the same stomach issued I did last year after she gave me unprotected oral. This is how I know that she is without a doubt infected, but she just cries or gets angry, defensive when I try to explain that she is infected even if her urine test came up negative.
Avatar n tn Is the proper z-pack dosage for treatment of Chlamydia 4 (250 mg) pills at ONCE, or 2 on the first day, followed by 2 pill for the next four days?
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever successfully used antibiotics (minocycline, etc.) for Psoriatic Arthritis? Please share.
Avatar f tn The dr did give me an rx for a 10-day course of Minocycline (sp?) in case the Bactrim did not work and I have chlamydia. As well as two fluconazole tablets to take after I had completed the antibiotic treatment in case of potential yeast overgrowth while on the antibiotics. But…the Bactrim seems to have worked based on the much lower white blood cell count in my urine and significantly lessened symptoms. And he said if it was an STD, the Bactrim wouldn’t have done anything.
494623 tn?1278279352 I have a Friend in Canada who has been on Minocycline for her RA for years and says she could not function without it,I asked my Doctor to prescribe this for me but he says it's not proven to be effective so wouldn't give me it !!! I have read that it IS effective not as a cure but by killing the bacteria that may be causing the RA symptoms. I am totally convinced it was the MRSA infection that caused my RA in the first place as I was absolutely fine before that happened ....
Avatar m tn t usually mean a chlamydia test. Are you sure your urine was actually tested for chlamydia 6/29 and 7/12? The wording seems to suggest that the first follow-up test (6/29) was negative and the next (7/12) was positive. Is that right? If so, your "Is it unheard of" question is on the right track: azithromycin is around 95% reliable in curing chlamydia, and sometimes that shows up with a negative test followed by a new positive one. However, there is another possibility.
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
