My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
I have had the same problem, I was taking 100mg of minocycline twice daily for 3 years. I started noticing that my bruises were staying longer than normal and when I brought it up to my doctor he dismissed it and didn't even question that it could be the minocycline (the only medicine I was on at the time). About 6 months later I did some research and I taught my doctor about the side effect which he claimed he had never heard of!
Yesterday, after 3 phone calls, I was prescribed Minocycline 100mg # 30. Can you tell me why Doxy is preferred to Minocycline? Does the Doxy work faster than the Mino? I am allergic to NSAIDS if that makes any difference.
We decided to use a topical cream, for the more oily areas on my face, and for me to take a 100mg dosage of Apo-Minocycline two times a day (morning and night). This worked fantastic for a few months. Eventually, I developed this odd rash on one side of my neck. The skin was very red and dry, somewhat scaly/bumpy, a bit raised, uneven + about the size/shape of my thumb. It kind of itched/hurt as well. I wasn't sure if it was connected to my skincare or not, so I continued with my routine.
ve been in an out of the hospital and nothing they have prescribed me has worked for nausea or my headache, but then I realized this all started a day or two after I started taking 100mg of minocycilne instead of only 50mg (I took 50mg for a month and it didn't make me sick, but I didnt clear my face either). It cleaned up my face perfectly (I've been taking it for 3 weeks), within a very timely matter too, but Im so sick I cant make it out of my dorm room (Im a college student).

For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
Started Minocycline 100mg 2x per day for suspected neuro Lyme and feel horrible. I know herx is possible, but feel more like I'm experiencing side effects, and wondering if I should switch abx.
How long should I stick with this?
Anyone have success with Minocycline?
Do the side effects lessen with time?
I have had this painful problem for years (4 years to be exact). I am 25 years old, male, from India. Here's how the problem started. Tiny red bumps on back of the scalp back in 2003, they got very itchy. I would scratch them, and they'd be filled with sort of clear liquid. After a few months, I went to a dermatologist, she prescribed me with something (i can't remember). It didn't do anything, and I had to go back.
I've been diagnosed with Folliculitis on my face and my Dermatologist put me on Minocylcine 100mg for two weeks (2x a day). I've noticed that it's clearling up, but I had a small outbreak today--I've been on the antibiotic for about a week now. I have had this on going for about 3 months....my wife is also experiencing this now. Also, about 3 months ago when I noticed the Folliculitis, I was experiencing severe dizziness, and I am still dizzy all the time.
I have been on the minocylcine 100mg per day for about five weeks now and there is noticeable improvement. I am still getting a few whiteheads appearing and blackheads on my chin, I can't tell anymore if its perioral dermatitis or just a pimple.
My questions for you are:
In your experience with this condition, is it long term and untreatable?
How long does the minocylcine take to work?
Can I stay on it long term for POD treatment?
Would it help to go back on the orthotryclen?
I asked the doctor what I should do, he prescribed me with 150mg of Minocycline per day, Secnidazole 400mg once per month, Tramadol Hydrocholoride 100mg twice daily, Olive leaf/cats claw/ baical skullcap/eleuth mix and some probiotics.
I asked him how long to take this for, he literally said "forever". He had no real advice and I don't know what to do from this point.

Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects.
Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Fatigue, all over body aches, slight rash on chest then the next morning a dull ache started in my urethra. Two days after that I had urgency to pee and pain in tip of penis. I had minocycline so I started taking 100mg twice a day for 8 days. It didn't seem to work so I stopped and three days later I intended to get tested for STDs. Well the place I went to in Germany only did HIV testing so I took that.
I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
