Common Questions and Answers about Minocycline bruises

Hi. I have been on minocycline since I was 21 (now 29) for acne. I recently went to a new family practice Dr. While I was there he noticed I was on mino and asked how long I'd been taking it. I told him my acne treatment history. He pointed out that my shines were green (look like bruises). He asked how long I'd had those "bruises". I replyed that they'd been there longer then normal. Months maybe.
I've tried erythromycin, doxycycline, and now I'm on minocycline, and ortho tri-cyclen. After two weeks, I've found that the minocycline is making me sick and I'm inclined to stop taking it. I've also tried Differin, which cleared my face completely in 1 week, but left a terrible dryness/peeling all over. I have ezcema patches on my face now! So my derm put me on retin a-micro, and in two weeks the acne has come back all along the jawline and cheeks, although the ezcema is better.
Mine told me up front when i asked about it, he said yes that its very rare, but the minocycline i was on can possibly cause permanent bruising. It hasnt been that long really since your accident so dont give up hope, maybe it will heal and go away!
However, in the last four months or so I have had a noticeable darkening of the skin around my temples and upper side cheeks. It almost looks like bruising, with a hint of yellowish pigmentation in some areas. My dermatologist did not recognize the condition, but my internist suggested that it might be a side effect of minocine. As a test of that theory, I discontinued the minocine in mid February but have not seen any change in the discoloration. Is this condition common with minocine?
However, about 6 months ago I was prescribed Minocycline by another doctor, and I had a bad reaction to it. About 3-4 weeks into my dosage, I developed severe hives and swelling at the joints, and I obviously stopped taking Minocycline. The ironic thing is that it was the only medication that has ever worked for my acne!
I am a 41 year old female. I get bloody noses 2-3 times a week. I am fair skinned and do bruise easily. Most of them go away in a somewhat normal amount of time, but lately I have had the same leg bruises for a little over six months that have lightened a little but are still quite visable. I also get severe charlie-horses in calves, toes, feet and recently my hands. Otherwise all other vitals fine. Blood pressure a little low but this is normal for me.
Each time I inserted the needle, about 3 days later blue/gray permanent discolorations (they look like deep bruises) popped up around each injection site - about as big as a penny - and they remained. I now have 6 of them, but only on the right side of my body. In addition, last month I had a surgical procedure done & the nurse put the I.V. in my right arm. No mark was left from where the needle was inserted, but oddly enought the BANDAID left a dark mark!
the same day the bump disappeared, i developed a tiny white bump, wasnt painful, wasnt itchy, or tender, it looked just like a whitehead pimple, but it dissapeared within the day and i think it was just caused by the irish springs soap i used.
Took Keflex (500 mg.) again for one month. Started taking Minocycline on March 10 (right after Keflex ended) for recurring boils. Low dosage of one 50mg tablet a day. Last week of medicine I started having slight discomfort in testicles, very infrequent. Found no real lumps, damage, etc. Also low level discomfort in and around groin region. Below testicles. Discomfort was never in just one spot. Seemed to be nerve related in and around lower groin. No discomfort when urinating.
Start with a long course of Minocycline which is an antibotic to clear up the possibity of an undetectable underlying infection and to clear up your abcesses. Abcesses can be dangerous if they rupture because they could then spread the infection to your blood stream. You may also have Behcet's Disease which is an autoimmune disorder that develops over a long period of time. Behcet has recently been deteremined to not be genetic.
) I have been on long term (several years) Minocycline use for acne. I'm in my early 30s. Also, just before this all began, I had started taking aspirin every couple of days. (I had read that it was good for the blood, and I smoke, so...) And, I am not circumsized. About 8 weeks ago, while having sex with my girlfriend (we don't use a condom), I somehow injured the tip of my penis.
try to avoid those that look bruised or really skinny. Get the fattest one you can find (the leaves usually cost no more than $3 individually, and that's expensive, although sometimes they're sold by weight) and slice off a thin portion maybe 2-3mm wide. Get it from the thick, jelly part that's around the middle of the aloe leaf, and just smear all the gel from that sliver directly onto your skin. This works as a moisturizer, although it leaves your skin kind of stiff feeling afterwards.
My clitoral hood is sooooo swollen and my clitoris is hard underneath and feels like it is badly bruised to the touch. Hopefully this helps. :) My doctor said it was from like spa's or things like that. I went surfing and then it happend so I am thinking that it has something to do with that.
myohno I have the SAME symptoms you have on a daily basis as far as low TSH, cold intolerance, flushing of skin, nausea pretty much you name it. I also have been getting random bruising all over my legs even if I dont bump into anything. Majority of tests they have run arent showing anything. Thyroid tests the past 2 they have done out of the 3 have been low TSH. But I think I have a much longer list of symptoms unless you are leaving some out.
I had been on doxycyline for a good year almost with no problems and then my doctor gave me a bottle of minocycline. After a week or two, I started to intensely itch, especially on my groin and scalp. I stopped taking the minocycline immediately...my hands and feet began to swell the next day. I told the doctor and took a round of Prednisone for one week. I ended up with itchy hives for a few days, but they eventually disappeared.
