t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test.
Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)?

I know you said this thread is ended but could you please take a look at this and tell me what you think of it and could this data indicate that minocycline could indeed slow down replication making it possible for delayed seroconversion, which would make my test at the 5 month mark inaccurate.

This is where all of my anxiety has came from.
My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?
I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again?
I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus.

I have been going through something very similar. I was prescribed Minocycline (a very evil drug) for my cystic acne back in November. Within just a couple days something terrible happened...and it happened so quick. Something just clicked...and then all of the sudden I started to have the most awful thoughts that I have ever had in my entire life. And these thoughts aren't thoughts that I've had before.
3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
A month ago before going on Minocycline and after the shots had worn off, My itchyness was nearly gone even though I still had the small raised bumps where I had itched before. Now I am having red patches that develop out of nowhere and itch like mad, then disappear only to leave a papular rash. What could this be? I've been to the Dermatologist several times and to an Allergist. No real answers, an allergy test showed that I wasn't allergic to anything.
There was no discharge from my penis or any other symptoms so my dr thought it more likely to be anal bacterial than a traditional STI and so prescribed a 10-day course of Bactrim and told me to come see him again after the course.
Fast Forward 10 days and the burning in my penis has decreased significantly. But it hadn’t completely disappeared and there was still a very slight sting (usually just when I first urinated in the morning).
All, I recently had a standard STD screen and my RDR test showed positive and came back at 1:8 for the quant. test. I have a scalp condition I've had for years that my dermatologist treats with 200mg daily of minocycline. I'm wondering 2 things:
1) Could the same scalp condition cause the RDR test to show a false-positive? Especially a 1:8 reading?
2) If it IS truly positive, is Minocycline 200mg daily (which I've taken for 2+ yrs) sufficient to treat for syphillis?
I had a sudden episode of 'going over the edge' vertigo while driving. It 'froze' me...as the road seemed to 'flip' and I felt I was going 'off rhe edge'. I stopped suddenly, and was just shaking in cold fear. A CHP officer (luckily) came along the off-ramp, and helped me. He moved my car, and had me taken to the nearby hospital in Sacramento. After all the usual 'scans' etc. were done, no one could find anything "wrong'.
I could not find a testing location in our rural location, read about Gonorrhea and knew that was my issue, I had discharge, pain while urinating. I took some of her Minocycline 200 MG for two days and three days of 100MG ALL SYMTOMS disappeared. I abstained from sex and took my first appointment at testing center in the city which was last Friday. They gave me a shot of antibiotics and two huge antibiotic pills, and did all the testing.
This is important because comparing only two drugs that have similar reactions with Lyme bacteria may leave out other treatment possibilities that could be significantly better than either doxy and minocycline. I am NOT medically trained, but after dealing with Lyme myself and continuing to read about it when I have time, it seems to me that there are more than a few competing views about Lyme treatment that are not yet a final answer.
d been there longer then normal. Months maybe. He informed me about minocycline induced hyprepigmentation and advised me to call my derm dr. asap. I did as soon as I got home and she took me off the mino immediately. Later that week I was brushing my teeth and happened to venture up a little further and noticed my upper gum line looked funny. I rinsed my mouth out and pulled up my upper lip to expose my gum line. And there it was...blue gums!!! I called my derm dr.
I have been on Zoloft for about 7 months now, after dealing with crippling anxiety and depression. this medicine really worked wonders! recently I was put on Minocycline for my chronic forehead and shoulder acne, and I was all for the idea of clear skin, whether I had to take pills or not. ever since, slowly but surely, my anxiety is making a reappearance, along with my depression, both of which I thought were long gone.
Of course I have fear about getting worse and that is why I may take Copaxone after my next MRI. I want to wait to see what is going before making that decision. I am taking LDN which is the 8th MS drug and something my neuro will prescribe, but only after I try the 7 others first. The thing is, LDN is cheap and has NO side effects.
I have had several friends, on several different occasions, have panic attacks and/or feelings of being "out of it" when they mixed marijuana and minocycline. Try smoking a much smaller amount instead, or skipping your minocycline dose (with dr. supervision) to see if you still feel the same negative effects when you smoke. Good luck to you!
Once I realized this all started happening after my dermatologist increased my dosage, I started doing some research online and found stuff that matched exactly to my symptoms, like literally exactly. Now its Tuesday night and I took my last minocycline pill on Saturday night before I realized that this is probably what is causing this (the hospital told me I probably have a migrane and sends me home still really sick).
t find any info on a google search. Has anyone else experienced depression or anxiety changes after starting Minocycline? I have discontinued the med for now.
I took Minocycline for 6 days and had a bad reaction towards ,,,,, numbness(pins and needles) in feet and both joint and muscle pain in hands and feet. I also had some nerve issue in my feet and itching. I stopped taking it and it's been 5 weeks and I still have these aggravated symptoms. Have you heard from these side effects lasting so long after stopping the medication?
I had random unprotected vaginal sex. 2-3 weeks after, although my symptoms were mild and there was no discharge, I went to get checked for STDs. Had to force my doc to test me for at least chlamydia. Tested "weak positive" for chlamydia on urine test. He put me 3 days 1g Zythromax. A week later my symptoms were still not 100% gone, and went back. Doc looked at my urine, said no white blood cells in urine, but decided to put me on 2 weeks of Minocycline 50mg twice daily.
