507935 tn?1217359454 Our hope is to get him off the prednisone and keep his liver enzymes in the normal range and his joints pain free. THe doctor thinks he may have to stay on Imuran for life but is also open to trying to take him off of it after a couple years to see if his immune system "resets" and goes back to normal. Is there anyone out there who has a similar situation who has tried this?
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar f tn m sorry you are continuing to worry about the possibility of infection. The minocycline you are taking for acne would have reduced your risk for infection if you were taking it at the time of exposure. As far as treatment is concerned, minocycline can cure chlamydia but the dose you are taking is a bit lower than what might be recommended for chlamydial infection. Nonetheless, if you were infected and tool the drug for a month as you have, I would expect it to cure chlamydia.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry, Doctor, but if I could just ask you one more thing; This is the article I had found discussing minocycline said that "Johns Hopkins scientists have found that a safe and inexpensive antibiotic in use since the 1970s for treating acne effectively targets infected immune cells in which HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, lies dormant and prevents them from reactivating and replicating" (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/03/100319202528.
Avatar m tn In addition, 5 weeks after this, my girlfriend of 3 years (not the potential exposure) got a flu like illness with swollen lymph nodes in the neck and a week of diarrhea. Also, she has had 4 painful bumps on the inside of her vagina over the past 5 months indicating to me that my potential exposure at the least gave me herpes. I had the clearview complete HIV 1/2 test done at 11 weeks and the same rapid antibody test at 21.5 weeks post exposure. Both negative.
Avatar m tn The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again? I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
Avatar m tn he said since i been taking minocycline 100 mg daily for 2 years and using the retin a micro 0.1% for 2 years and im still breaking out i should try something new like it may be wearing off....he put me on oracea 40mg once a day and differin gel 0.3%....i was reading the paper that comes with oracea~doxycycline and it says it doesnt kill bacteria now im getting worried because minocycline does kill bacteria now im worried i will break out more from the oracea.
Avatar n tn The hepatologist says that it was caused by the minocycline that she was taking for acne. She has some scarring on her liver and is currently taking prednisone. The doctor hopes that this won't be a lifelong disease since it appears to be drug induced. This has been and still is, very frightening for us. I pray a lot.
Avatar f tn BigAsh87, I just found out Im pregnant as well and have been on minocycline for the past 5 days, please give me some feedback, im so worried now after reading things on the internet
Avatar f tn I read that minocycline can be problematic, esp for women, but it is good against Lyme and it metabolized by the liver and not excreted by the kidneys. Mojogal-I think you said you're on minocycline. How has it been for you? Anybody else had kidney issues eith Lyme?
948349 tn?1294380237 My ex husband worked as a golf course superintendent. He would get bit often and would see the company Dr and would be cured in 3 months. Everyone is different but you are taking the correct medications for what you have. It takes much longer for you to become chronic, the LLMD says to continue your meds 3-4 months after your symptoms are gone to make sure. I was bit over 22 years ago, I am considered chronic.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Lyme based on a positive Western Blot test and a Sunnybrook test that was indicative on the 93 band (I think that was the band) I am on Minocycline and was wondering if others out there were also on it and if it worked for them. I seem to be getting better. There are ups and downs but I am able to move much better than anytime in the past 7 and a half years. Just wondering how long one has to be on the drug and if it really makes you better.
Avatar m tn You really need to see a doctor to get properly diagnosed. Taking antibiotics you buy online may just make the organism resistant to the antibiotic or it may not be the right drug for the infection. How do you know it is infected rather than a canker sore or a burn from eating or drinking something hot? There are many antibiotics and most have side effects that can be really bad. A lot of drugs on line are not even at the dose they say they are.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar f tn I started minocycline feb 10 and conceived my baby feb 21 but i didnt stop the medicine until march 9 ( only because i didnt know i was preg) im 7 weeks now and i just wanna know has anybody else expericed this with a positive outcome ?
Avatar m tn 1) Could the same scalp condition cause the RDR test to show a false-positive? Especially a 1:8 reading? 2) If it IS truly positive, is Minocycline 200mg daily (which I've taken for 2+ yrs) sufficient to treat for syphillis? Any thoughts or advise is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CRP after years of trying the shampoo and typical fungal treatments. I must be one of the lucky ones, because after seeing a dermatologist and getting on minocycline, I have been pretty much CRP free for about 5 yrs now. I have one little brown spot on each side of my armpit area, and that's it. Oh, and I only took the minocycline for about 6 months. I know for some people, they have to take it continually in order to prevent reoccurance.
Avatar f tn I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?
Avatar n tn They gave me a shot of antibiotics and two huge antibiotic pills, and did all the testing. They gave me the dosage as a precaution but thought that if I had no symptoms the Minocycline has cured it. The testing came back yesterday and I was positive for urine Gonorrhea, negative for oral, rectal, and HIV. Shypillis was still pending.
5248641 tn?1367587247 Mino was an awful drug for me----- but some people just loved it from the git-go. And a lot of people said that after the initial junk/herx they got better. I hope you're in the latter group.
Avatar m tn My doctor put me on minocycline 100mg per day I took it for a month and it kind of cleared up but towards the end of the month it started to come back when I was on the medicine I was a few days late in getting the refill and now its totally back and i got the refill and have been on it for over a week now and it is doing nothing is 100mg a day too little This discussion is related to Minocycline 100mg not working.
Avatar n tn I have had the same problem, I was taking 100mg of minocycline twice daily for 3 years. I started noticing that my bruises were staying longer than normal and when I brought it up to my doctor he dismissed it and didn't even question that it could be the minocycline (the only medicine I was on at the time). About 6 months later I did some research and I taught my doctor about the side effect which he claimed he had never heard of!
Avatar n tn Scroll down the page to community members, you can look for the member there and contact them through that. I am kind of new too. I am not impressed with this site either, it just seems a lot of the same things get posted, no one really gets much benefit. On the other hand, it also appears that some of the posts just get years of posts that never accomplish anything; at best, you might read for hours and find something useful.
