Minocycline and tetracycline

Common Questions and Answers about Minocycline and tetracycline

Avatar m tn You have found some rather peculiar information on the web. The tetracycline antibiotics (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline) have absolutely no effect on reliability of HIV testing. We use doxycycline all the time in STD clinics -- in fact, one of the most common antibiotics we prescribe -- and we certainly don't hesitate to do HIV tests on people who have taken it recently. In fact, there are NO drugs that are known to have any effect on any HIV tests.
Avatar m tn It says that minodene belongs to a class of drugs called tetracycline and the active substance is minocycline as minocycline hydrochloride dihydrate. Still no difference to the result??
Avatar f tn I have been on Zoloft for about 7 months now, after dealing with crippling anxiety and depression. this medicine really worked wonders! recently I was put on Minocycline for my chronic forehead and shoulder acne, and I was all for the idea of clear skin, whether I had to take pills or not. ever since, slowly but surely, my anxiety is making a reappearance, along with my depression, both of which I thought were long gone.
890031 tn?1241250251 Homeopathic medicine does good only for the person that sells it to you. Tetracycline and minocycline are oral antibiotics that reduce the amount and irritation of oil glands. Often used in the treatment of acne.
Avatar n tn Three days later culture was ALL NEGATIVE. Kept taking Minocycline during the wait and by this time my symptoms were mostly gone... EXCEPT a mild discomfort in the perineum... (prostate) By this time, because I doubled-down, I ran out of medicine (after 9 days), so I went back in for more, after reading all the horror stories about chlamydia getting into your prostate and then you're in deep ****. Doc gave me 4-5 more days of Minocycline @ 100mg/day.
Avatar f tn tetracycline, doxycycline (Vibramycin), Minocin (minocycline) Sulfa drugs - if near delivery (because they can increase the chance of serious newborn jaundice)
Avatar n tn I have also been on antibiotics for almost two years for ocular rosacea and blepharitis. First Tetracycline, then Doxycycline and finally, for the last 10 months, minocycline which I know can in rare cases cause some type of liver toxicity. I have stopped the antibiotics and hope that clears up the problem. When or how long should I wait to start to be concerned? Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn I recently read about a genetic test called AcneDX that tests whether or not oral antibiotics will be an effective acne treatment. My teenaged daughter has moderate acne and tetracycline has been suggested. I'm concerned about giving her a medication that may have side effects and produce an antibiotic resistance later in her life, and it may not even work to clear her acne up. The test sounds like a great way to find out prior to treatment if the antibiotics will help.
Avatar f tn A large double-blind trial (332 participants) compared 30 mg daily of zinc against a tetracycline-family medication often used for acne (minocycline at 100 mg daily). The results showed minocycline is more effective than zinc. Tetracycline taken at a dose of 250 mg daily, appears to be no more effective than zinc, but when taken at 500 mg daily it seems to be considerably more effective.
Avatar n tn For people with more severe cases, doctors often prescribe an oral (taken by mouth) antibiotic. Tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin, and doxycycline are the most common antibiotics used to treat rosacea. Some people respond quickly, while others require long-term therapy. Isotretinoin may be considered as a treatment option for all forms of severe or therapy-resistant rosacea.
Avatar n tn Systemic erythromycin is recommended in children, pregnant and nursing mothers and tetracycline-allergic patients. Second line of topical therapy could be erythromycin, clindamycin, azalaic acid or sulfur preparations. In addition, it is recommended to reduce use of cosmetics and make-up and avoid introduction of new skin care and oral care products.
Avatar n tn I seem to always be red across the nose and cheeks and it seems to be getting worse each year and I am beginning to notice some on chin and between eyebrows. I really havent been able to pinpoint triggers but have always blushed easily and have always gotten really red faced during exercise. Playing on tennis and basketball teams in H.S., I was quite the scarry tomato face! Anyway my question is if there is a possible connection with fungus or yeast? Any good tips on types of makeup?
Avatar n tn During the course of treatment I was perscribed Minocycline, Doxycycline, tetracycline, and sulfa based medications, all resulting in allergic reactions. I was finally placed on Accutane with positive results while taking the drug, however six months after completing treatment, the acne returned again. A year later I resumed taking Accutane, unfortunately, with the same results. At 18, I began a homeopathic course of treatment which consisted of taking a variety of vitamins each day.
Avatar n tn Dear sir/madam, I am writing this letter to get advice and help regarding my scalp folliculitis. I’ve had this condition for the past 6 years. I’ve tried different treatments including antibiotics like Amoxicillin, erythromycin, minocycline, tetracycline, doxicycline, & ciprofloxacin each course taken for at least 6 months to 1 year. I have also tried topical treatment like Fucidin, Mupirocin, clindamycin and gentamicin.
Avatar f tn If you are having inflammatory acne then tetracycline or doxycycline or minocycline; benzoyl peroxide 5% gel; azelaic acid 20% cream; clindamycin 1% lotion or cream; erythromycin 2% gel or cream. If you are having recalcitrant acne in women then probably oral contraceptive containing norgestimate 0.25 mg and ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg; spironolactone; prednisone. If you have acne where sweating is an aggravating factor then aluminum chloride solution should be your choice of your treatment.
Avatar f tn Tetralysal is a brand of tetracycline, I just realised that minocycline is the most severe of the tetracycline brand. Is there any way you could try a different type under the tetracycline brand or have you already? I don't mean to pry here but why did you come off the pill and what type was it? Like I said i don't mean to pry, I'm just trying to get the full picture. How long have you had skin problems for, is it only since coming off the pill?
Avatar n tn Since you feel the lesions are worsening, you either need to stop the application of Azelaic acid or supplement it with oral anti-biotic like (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline) which is the first line of treatment for Rosacea. Ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn A little nervous to use this stuff as my web research seems to suggest that cortisone and other steroids could make this condition worse. Any advice? Do I use this stuff or try something else?
Avatar f tn I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
Avatar f tn t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test. Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)? Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate your help.
Avatar f tn I have tried Doxycycline and it does not help (tried Minocycline, Tetracycline too, no luck). I have used lid scrubs and they only get rid of the flaking that I get around the eyelash line (I have Blepharitis too). I do take fish oil tablets on a daily basis, don't seem to make much difference tho.
507935 tn?1217359454 I travel a lot and my doctors says that since it is not genetic in my case that it could be caused by an infection at some point overseas (Asia, Africa, Russia, Middleeast etc). But then i say your post. I was on minocycline a year before i was diagnozed - and it was a weird year - very tired and never really feeling good. I got diagnozed in October 2009, after a liverbiopsy. Immidiately treated with prednizone and am now down at imuran only 50mg a day.
Avatar m tn The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again? I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
