Avatar f tn I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
Avatar f tn t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test. Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)? Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate your help.
Avatar m tn I know you said this thread is ended but could you please take a look at this and tell me what you think of it and could this data indicate that minocycline could indeed slow down replication making it possible for delayed seroconversion, which would make my test at the 5 month mark inaccurate. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full This is where all of my anxiety has came from.
Avatar m tn The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again? I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
Avatar n tn In CT scans, Diffuse mediastinal involvement is more typical of lymphoma, large cell undifferentiated carcinoma and acute or chronic mediastinitis. In sarcoidosis, post contrast enhancement of enlarged hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes is there. The CT appearance, as well as the associated features may help determine the cause of lymphadenopathy. In many circumstances, however, biopsy is required to establish the specific diagnosis. http://www.medcyclopaedia.
Avatar m tn 3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
Avatar f tn Sarcoidosis can be a symptom of infection of infection with spirochetes, in particular, those that cause Lyme disease. You might wish to get tested for that. You'd be better off skipping the western blot. Ask your physician to get your tests done by a lab called IGENEX.
Avatar f tn My ACE test came back elevated a couple of years ago and I have been tested for Lupus and Sarcoidosis in the past and was told I don't have either. My question is if anyone who has been diagnosed with MS has also had elevated ANA or ACE blood tests. I have done a search on line and have found limited info on these blood tests, which indicates that MS patients can have elevated ANA and ACE blood test results, but I have not actually found anyone who has this.
Avatar n tn Hello, I post this a little late. Sarcoidosis could affect the liver, and the first sign of liver involvement may be the elevation of enzymes. Since your chest Ray manifestation is better, it could hardly be caused by activation of sarcoidosis. So it's probably caused by fatty liver, or the medications you took to control cholesteral levels (I suppose?), such as statin.
Avatar f tn https://www.dermatologyadvisor.com/home/decision-support-in-medicine/dermatology/sarcoidosis-cutaneous-sarcoidosis/. I've had this itchy rash on and off for over 6 months. Does anyone know what these test results mean? Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you?Treatment of sarcoidosis depend on the signs and symptoms, which organs are affected, and whether those organs are working well. The goals of treatment include: relieving symptoms, improving organ function, controlling inflammation and reducing the size of granulomas and preventing pulmonary fibrosis, if the lungs are affected. Sometimes, the disease goes away on its own. If the disease affects certain organ, medication may be indicated.
Avatar f tn Do you think this could be sarcoidosis? and Can you have both lupus and Sarcoidosis? My father has some sx also seem to fit. Would either parent have to have it for me to have it? Seems like all females in my family have health issues. Aunt with sever Rheumatoid Arthritis. Is there any genetic testing that can be done to see if this could be my health issues? Both my parents are still living but are 79 and 80yo. Any suggestions??
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in Nov. I have quite extensive lung involvement and we are trying to make sure that there is no heart involvement. During Nov./ Dec. I was having leg, hand and arm cramps that basically locked my limb so it couldn't move. I had it checked out but no one could tell me what was wrong. I have been on prednisone now since Nov. and we tried to cut the dose from 40 to 20 without luck and minimal response from the sardoid.
Avatar m tn I have allergies and also live in Louisville, KY which is notorious for pulmonary problems. Can allergies and/mold exacerbate the sarcoidosis effects?
Avatar m tn Why can't we find a cure for SARCOIDOSIS? Why is there not more awareness for this terrible disease? It has affected my husbands liver. He now has cirrhosis and needs a liver transplant. He can't tolerate prednisone very well. What other drugs could be used? Are there any Sarcoidosis doctors in the Cleveland Ohio area?
Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
Avatar m tn Hello Peter, It usually helps us if you have a question or want to share a potential risk. Please see a physician for the correct dosage and correct diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar f tn I started minocycline feb 10 and conceived my baby feb 21 but i didnt stop the medicine until march 9 ( only because i didnt know i was preg) im 7 weeks now and i just wanna know has anybody else expericed this with a positive outcome ?
Avatar f tn My father takes only one forth of his Lipitor and his cholesterol levels are excellent now. Sarcoidosis runs on my mother's side of the family. It affected my mother's lungs and heart. The radiation from Cat scans is high and to have one every year would increase the risk of cancer. Heart Surgeons frequently find cancer in heart patients most likely due to the radiation from the years of heart testing. My mother had Sarcoidosis, cancer, and severe heart disease.
