t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test.
Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)?

The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again?
I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus.

It says that minodene belongs to a class of drugs called tetracycline and the active substance is minocycline as minocycline hydrochloride dihydrate. Still no difference to the result??
The testing came back yesterday and I was positive for urine Gonorrhea, negative for oral, rectal, and HIV. Shypillis was still pending.
Last Saturday 24 hours after I was injected with antibiotics and taken large pills I had protected vaginal sex, and she performed brief oral sex on me with no ejaculation with same partner who is still on Minocycline. This was stupid but I thought I was clear with Minocycline.
condoms reliably prevent HIV transmission; almost nobody catches HIV by oral sex; and no symptoms are useful clues about new HIV infection (and yours don't sound suspicious for HIV anyway). However, if you would like to provide more detailed information about your partner, I can more accurately assess that part of the risk. But the bottom line is that most likely you have no worries about HIV.
The genital ulcer does not suggest HIV but still might be important.
I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
recently I just heard that Minocycline is good for both HIV and acne and I want to try it. Im about to ask my doctor this friday but I havce this nagging feeling to buy it now, so I want to know your opinion if this is good for me.
also - what is your opinion on Virgin Coconut Oil? is it good for us HIV positive people?

3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.

on a sex worker.i have been taking minocycline 2 times a day and bactrim 2 times a day for one year.now after one year in may i have taken my elisa test of hiv which came out negative.my concern is does taking these medication for this much length can affect my hiv test .do i need to retest again?
A week later I developed an ulcer and swelling on the shaft of the penis. I take minocycline (antibiotic) for acne, but had not taken it for about one month. I started taking it a couple days after the sore and swelling appeared, and both subsided within 3 days.
It has been almost five weeks since my encounter. I have not had any fever or noticed any enlargement of my lymph nodes. I did have a sore throat for a couple days recently, but that passed.
It is the most accurate now because of no window period and because it checks for both the HIV 1 and 2 and the antigen and antibody. Other countries have a 4th generation and 3rd generation test too but they have to ask for it. That may still be the case here. So to reiterate 17 days after exposure is conclusive.
2. You could go to an infectious disease doctor but really any good family practise doctor with an open mind should do these tests especially if you ask for them.
I have since been tested for other STDs and my results are negative. I tested again for HIV (standard blood test) on 2/17/2010 and am waiting for results. How secure can I feel in the original negative result?
My concern is that after being on Minocycline for two weeks I developed a rash on my chest and arms, discontinued its use (rash went away) but developed a yeast infection about a 1.5 weeks after discontinuation (1/11/2010) and it has lasted at varying levels of intensity for a month.

I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
I started minocycline feb 10 and conceived my baby feb 21 but i didnt stop the medicine until march 9 ( only because i didnt know i was preg) im 7 weeks now and i just wanna know has anybody else expericed this with a positive outcome ?
All, I recently had a standard STD screen and my RDR test showed positive and came back at 1:8 for the quant. test. I have a scalp condition I've had for years that my dermatologist treats with 200mg daily of minocycline. I'm wondering 2 things:
1) Could the same scalp condition cause the RDR test to show a false-positive? Especially a 1:8 reading?
2) If it IS truly positive, is Minocycline 200mg daily (which I've taken for 2+ yrs) sufficient to treat for syphillis?
I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?

I have acne all over the back of my head and on my back it hurts to touch in some spots and to dry my hair.
