139792 tn?1498585650 The study findings are in line with prior research on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, or MBSR, programs and suggest that MMFT may provide "psychological prophylaxis," or protection from cognitive and emotional disturbances, even among high-stress cohorts such as members of the military preparing for deployment.
405614 tn?1329144114 One other thing people might want to check out is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, which is a secular, meditation-based program that is used a lot for people with chronic pain. This practice uses a kind of body awareness meditation and there has been quite a bit of research on this method (see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed&cmd=DetailsSearch&term=mindfulness+based+stress+reduction or http://tinyurl.com/83cltn). There are CDs available at http://www.
Avatar f tn One study published in Cognitive Therapy and Research in 2014 found that decentering, or stepping back to “observe thoughts and feelings as temporary and objective events in the mind,” can help mediate the effects of rumination in individuals with depression.
Avatar m tn Look up MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) online. I have been getting into meditation and yoga and reading Jon Kabat-Zinn's book "Full Catastrophe Living". It is incredible the things that come up for people when they learn how to 'get still' and tap into what's going on internally. I have been on benzo's myself. Not a huge fan of xanax. I'm now on a generic for Klonopin. Not impressed with that either.
15695260 tn?1549593113 Mindfulness Meditation. (There are some apps which teach this. 'Headspace', (I forget the other one)) This will help strengthen certain areas of the brain, which leads to stress reduction (and other health benefits). A few minutes a day for 2 months should show some results. There's also mindfulness motion exercises: Qi-Gong, Tai-Chi, Yoga (Therapeutic yoga. Too many types of yogas.) There may be some meditation classes nearby. Or Buddhist places often have meditation classes.
Avatar m tn I have not seen this as a symptom of mania, but it certainly fits with what we know of the brain changes that take place with mania - essentially there is a reduction in self monitoring for mistakes and errors (the part of the brain that performs that function has reduced activity on functional brain scans in mania).
Avatar f tn Greetings doctor I am actually doing a research paper on HIV for school and with so much info online from one end of the spectrum to the other I figure I would ask a specialist directly a few questions so here it goes... 1-with testing now a days would you consider 6-8 weeks conclusive? 2-do you believe rapid tests are just as reliable as lab based? 3-do you feel oral rapid tests are just as good as blood? 4-what are the most common symptoms you see with onset of HIV?
Avatar n tn encouraging mindfulness in patients as to how stress impacts their bodies; and, giving patients tools (especially non-pharmaceutical ones) which they can learn to apply (with consistent practice and discipline) to either cause these stresses to be smaller, or to make larger their own capacity to tolerate the stresses. We live in a global society which makes it almost impossible to escape chronic stress-overload.
Avatar m tn Bad day for Arrowhead Research. Its stock lost some 50% in value. Bad days for chronic HEP B sufferers hoping for good news. http://www.thestreet.com/story/12906965/1/arrowhead-sinks-on-disappointing-hepatitis-b-drug-data.html?
1032715 tn?1315984234 Yes preventative research in this area is crucial. Clearly there is a genetic basis to this and there should be further means to understand and prevent alcoholism and substance abuse in general. There is ongoing research as regards preventative vaccines for specific forms of substance abuse but as with all research it will take a while for safe and effective treatments to be available as it is in its early stages: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/04/AR2010010402752.
Avatar m tn I have been taking certain food based multivitamins (Rainbow Men Just One). Is it safe? There is 100% vitamin A, but no iron. Does that much of Vita A plus dietary intake of vit A result in too much? I also usually eat a lot of nuts (almond, cashew, peanuts). Will I have problem of iron overload? Thanks!
967168 tn?1477584489 is a great, great book by Eckhart Tolle. Buddhist philosophy, of course, is all based on mindfulness which is harnessed through meditation practice. Some people do not need to read much to be aware and in the moment. It just comes naturally and they have the inner knowing of appreciation of what life is really about. Like you. Others need constant reminders. Happy Holidays to all!

1168718 tn?1464983535 t tell me to adopt lifestyle changes except one stress reduction. I am the most anxious person on the planet. People do not see it because I appear calm and happy but I am now seriously tackling the stress. For me it is life and death whether I get a handle on it. I need to calm my body processes to survive. My brother is pretty stressed as well. Last night I went to sleep with a "Mindfulness" audible book going. I was in pain and I went into five crying jags yesterday.
1641772 tn?1301357889 I use his series 1 CDs and have done so for many years. He is the pioneer of mindfulness and stress reduction programs in hospitals. If you like yoga find a school or community centre that offers it or just do it to a cd such as the one by Kabat-Zinn. If you enjoy meditation you can also do it to these CDs and/or go to a temple or centre that does group meditation or instruction.
667078 tn?1316000935 There were a bunch of things on dealing with Stress and Mindfulness Meditation. All things I needed to be reminded of. I am signing up for a Mindfulness Class at the Cancer Hospital. I forget to breath and have been worrying way too much lately. I hope everyone is well. It is great to be alive today and out in the world. I have been so sick and being in bed gets old.
Avatar f tn To be honest, I'm still not very comfortable with the answer that I got. I understand that by reading the dictation/interpretation - it sounds like everything was good...and that is what my PCM is going off of. I also understand that my PCM is not a cardiologist. I'm going off of my internet research based on the test itself. Pretty much all of the stuff that I've read says that drop is concerning, or even grounds for stopping the test (which didn't happen).
333672 tn?1273792789 Interesting study that compares people with MS who went through a mindfulness meditation training program with those receiving just regular medical care. "Those who went through the mindfulness program improved in nearly every measure of fatigue, depression and quality of life, while those who received usual medical care declined slightly on most of the measures." http://www.physorg.com/news204826412.
1492418 tn?1289149263 I get it myself when my stress level is very high. Are you working on breathing exercises? That might help. I think all of us that have anxiety are worried that someone will see us, witnessing what we're going through. That can make our anxiety even worse, as you already know. Try to hang in there. It sounds like your doing great! Hopefully the dizziness will go away when you get your anxiety more under control.
198419 tn?1360242356 I know Sherry is doing her research and has to make a DMD decision, so here is a little more if you've not seen the results of these studies (from MSAA site) *************************** Spring 2008 Research Update May 19, 2008 A one-year study in Germany found that 1157 patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) who began and continued on Avonex® for one year, benefited from nursing support.
Avatar m tn in the not-to-distant past (I assume this was based on the older meta study - which preceded this one - it was probably the best research available when it came out, so clearly no fault of yours to rely on it) . . . but if you have updated to "50%" now as a result of this conversation and this new study . . .

1032715 tn?1315984234 The genetic therapy is based on aldehyde dehydrogenase, a group of enzymes that metabolise alcohol and are thus responsible for alcohol tolerance, said Juan Asenjo, who heads a team of researchers at Chile's Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics and the private lab Recalcine. About 20 per cent of the Asian population lacks this enzyme and thus experience "such a strong reaction that it discourages consumption," he added.
