139792 tn?1498585650 The study findings are in line with prior research on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, or MBSR, programs and suggest that MMFT may provide "psychological prophylaxis," or protection from cognitive and emotional disturbances, even among high-stress cohorts such as members of the military preparing for deployment.
15695260 tn?1549593113 Mindfulness Meditation. (There are some apps which teach this. 'Headspace', (I forget the other one)) This will help strengthen certain areas of the brain, which leads to stress reduction (and other health benefits). A few minutes a day for 2 months should show some results. There's also mindfulness motion exercises: Qi-Gong, Tai-Chi, Yoga (Therapeutic yoga. Too many types of yogas.) There may be some meditation classes nearby. Or Buddhist places often have meditation classes.
405614 tn?1329144114 One other thing people might want to check out is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, which is a secular, meditation-based program that is used a lot for people with chronic pain. This practice uses a kind of body awareness meditation and there has been quite a bit of research on this method (see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed&cmd=DetailsSearch&term=mindfulness+based+stress+reduction or http://tinyurl.com/83cltn). There are CDs available at http://www.
Avatar m tn Look up MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) online. I have been getting into meditation and yoga and reading Jon Kabat-Zinn's book "Full Catastrophe Living". It is incredible the things that come up for people when they learn how to 'get still' and tap into what's going on internally. I have been on benzo's myself. Not a huge fan of xanax. I'm now on a generic for Klonopin. Not impressed with that either.
Avatar f tn One study published in Cognitive Therapy and Research in 2014 found that decentering, or stepping back to “observe thoughts and feelings as temporary and objective events in the mind,” can help mediate the effects of rumination in individuals with depression.
Avatar m tn I have not seen this as a symptom of mania, but it certainly fits with what we know of the brain changes that take place with mania - essentially there is a reduction in self monitoring for mistakes and errors (the part of the brain that performs that function has reduced activity on functional brain scans in mania).
Avatar f tn There are breathing exercises that helped me if what I had to do didn't take very long -- they're based on the same teachings that brought us meditation and are based on abdominal breathing. Meditation can take some time to have an effect, and it certainly made life better for me until I stopped being able to achieve the alpha state due to other things that happened with medication.
Avatar m tn actually the only thing i can make from ur comment is u want to test ur body against ocd. okk its been 4 years but hv tried exposure therapy ever, go to a psychotherapist, if u cant go , then try reading book "overcoming obsessive thoughts", and do exposure exercises and reading about compulsive and avoidance behaviour. the other thing which i would suggest is mindfulness, if u can reconize ur obsessive thoughts u hv to do is just dont analyse them and let them go.
Avatar n tn Really not trying to be picky here, but Mindfulness is a form of meditation, not a form of deep breathing. Deep breathing exercises are something else. If you look up Mindfulness and find deep breathing exercises, something has gone haywire.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you are having this experience. I've had that sensation of racing heart. Like I can't calm down. Honestly, what helps me is to deep breath (breath in deeply for a count of three, hold for a count of three, breath out slowly for a count of three, hold for three, repeat). This is calming to me. And while you do it, visualize something soothing (whatever is to you like a beach, a field of flowers with birds chirping, etc.).
1492418 tn?1289149263 I get it myself when my stress level is very high. Are you working on breathing exercises? That might help. I think all of us that have anxiety are worried that someone will see us, witnessing what we're going through. That can make our anxiety even worse, as you already know. Try to hang in there. It sounds like your doing great! Hopefully the dizziness will go away when you get your anxiety more under control.
967168 tn?1477584489 is a great, great book by Eckhart Tolle. Buddhist philosophy, of course, is all based on mindfulness which is harnessed through meditation practice. Some people do not need to read much to be aware and in the moment. It just comes naturally and they have the inner knowing of appreciation of what life is really about. Like you. Others need constant reminders. Happy Holidays to all!
1168718 tn?1464983535 t tell me to adopt lifestyle changes except one stress reduction. I am the most anxious person on the planet. People do not see it because I appear calm and happy but I am now seriously tackling the stress. For me it is life and death whether I get a handle on it. I need to calm my body processes to survive. My brother is pretty stressed as well. Last night I went to sleep with a "Mindfulness" audible book going. I was in pain and I went into five crying jags yesterday.
Avatar f tn You need to use the right exercise and diet program. What you eat determines whether you will gain, maintain or lose muscle mass. Decrease your total daily caloric intake by 500 to 750 calories per day. A caloric reduction is needed to lose weight. You can find your maintenance calorie intake by using a standard calorie calculator. Maintenance calories are those needed to maintain your body as it is.
667078 tn?1316000935 There were a bunch of things on dealing with Stress and Mindfulness Meditation. All things I needed to be reminded of. I am signing up for a Mindfulness Class at the Cancer Hospital. I forget to breath and have been worrying way too much lately. I hope everyone is well. It is great to be alive today and out in the world. I have been so sick and being in bed gets old.
Avatar f tn Well there are things that can help like exercising every day for atleast 30 minutes, meditation daily, yoga, learning and practicing mindfulness(there are lots of books, Jon Kabat Zinn is one author) learning deep breathing exercises. Over proper diet. The better we treat our bodies, the better we can feel. CBT is also another way that can help people control their anxiety, other therapy. Always ensure that there is no medical cause for your anxiety and keep your doctor up to date.
Avatar n tn I think the recommendations depend on what happened and how you feel. If you went to the cath lab and had a stent placed you should probably not do heavy lifting or running for the next week. If you didn't, you should have a stress test with recommendations based on what that looks like before further recommendations.
Avatar m tn So try to remain as calm as possible by doing something to distract your mind. Do some deep breathing exercises....breathe slowly in thru your nose and slowly out of your mouth. We tend to breathe in a shallow way during panic and this will make you light headed, so be aware of your breathing. I hope this helps and you're feeling better. Remember if we panic during a panic attack...it makes it worse. I know it's hard not to, just do your best. Take care.
Avatar f tn Thank you so very much.....I do have muscle and nerve damage.....I take gab.for my pain,I don't get siezures. I also take baclofen.my legs get stiff when I don't take the gab 3x a day . Alex my medicine cabinet is starting to look like a mini pharmacy. Monday I will call a pain management clinic to hear other options. What do you take the trileptal for?
Female Have a good sleep and stay away from stress. Continue with your exercises. A calculative and disciplined approach will be really helpful. Do keep us posted. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I don't know if this is any help, but I do breathing exercises that stress expelling as much air from the lungs as possible. Every time I finish the exercises I cough up a lot of junk and breathe more easily. Whether or not these exercises affect permanent hyperinflation (is there such a thing?) I don't know. But the exercises themselves are beneficial, at least for me.
