I bought the chocolate Special K brand protein shake but after reading the label more carefully I am not sure this is safe to drink. I was hoping to find a premade protein shake or a powder that mixes easily with chocolate milk. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Yea I'd try to avoid the protein powder and get the protein I need from the food I eat. I'm a vegetarian so I get my protein from tofu and other foods made from soy, beans, nuts, and dairy products. You don't know all the ingredients in the protein powder so I'd ask my doctor about it.
Avatar f tn Well - you have got to have a liquid - so the options are water, milk, or soy/almond/rice/coconut milk. Then you have to have some source of protein. Other than protein powder, you are pretty limited. You don't want to use raw egg. You could use nuts or peanut butter. Other sources of protein such as cooked meat or fish wouldn't be particularly appetizing in a smoothie.

Avatar m tn As Ive started thinking more and more, when I was working out I remember I couldnt find a protein powder that sat well with me. I kept switching. Milk, and dairy of such doesnt give me diarrhea or pain, like common lactose tolerance symptoms. Milk just alters my stools, turning them light colored after a few days of drinking it. So does sour cream and ice cream. I dont have this problem with cheese, and the lactose tolerance pills did not make a difference in this, because I tried them.

I find that I am putting on weight and the pain in the finger joints is quite bad right now. What did you do to reverse this ? Should I just stop this protein intake ?

I went with veggie & fruit smoothies and used soy milk as it had higher protein content (vs other but mills). But I want to know if anyone else has found out anything else!

So if milk causes inflammation (I don't know how my body would handle 24 ounces of milk, my guess is "not well"), 3 eggs seems like a lot of cholesterol to me (I can't remember if we are supposed to be concerned with dietary cholesterol or not?

I've talked to my home visiting nurse, my nurse practitioner and dr and they said it was fine to drink. You can also juice. I dont understand how its bad when everything you eat has pretty much the same thing as the shake does.

(He will drink milk, but mostly only if it has Ovaltine in it, which we only put in about 1 TB, not 4 like the directions say.) My question is: Is the whey protein powder safe to use, and if so, how much. Or, should I just try the powdered milk? Also, do you have any other suggestions? Thank you!

I like the protein powder that uses chick pea for the protein source. Seems less nauseating to me. I'm sorry you have allergies. When you're already sick, the limitations don't help. Have you tried quinoa? It's kind of like rice in that it's flavorless, but it packs a lotta protein and is lighter than rice. Best to ya.
