Avatar f tn I think there have been animal studies with milk thistle where it was shown to have protected the liver against certain toxins.Milk thistle alone would probably not help an aweful lot (my opinion),you would be better combining it with lifestyle changes such as abstaining from alcohol, exercise, diet and maybe even treatment-depending on what your doctor recommends. Welcome anyway and good luck !

Avatar m tn All of these include references to medical studies which are hard to trace by yourself--especially as you would have to pay for each article if you order them on-line from, say, the New England Journal of Medicine. My co-worker had access to original sources, and shrank her tumor with a similar strategy after it had come back after chemo--it is possible and that was good to know for us, and I hope, for you.

Avatar m tn I've heard of a few studies for liver health and milk thistle.. but honestly, I wouldn't start doing anything yet until your doctor runs tests. I should mention too, that milk thistle can cause allergic reactions in some people (make sure you can take echinecea, daisy-family, dandelion-type flowers without reaction). My sibling has N.A.S.H. --Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitus, which I think might be the same thing... fatty liver with liver damage?
Avatar f tn pasta), fat free or low fat dairy products (skim milk, 1% milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurts, low fat soy milk/yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Eat daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal). Some people have claimed that avoiding dairy and gluten in their diet has helped them with their MS; however, there is no clear research evidence. It is a personal choice. Hoped this has helped you.
492936 tn?1244651570 t know the whole diet, but I did read that whole milk makes big fat juicy eggs, so for the past 2 months I have been drinking a glass of whole milk every day. I forgot how delish really cold whole milk is. I'm lucky b/c we have a small organic dairy nearby and I go and pickup a half gallon of it served in the old fashioned glass bottles. As far as all the other stuff goes, I have read a few books and they're all pretty similar.. low fat, whole grains, veggies and fruit...

526889 tn?1212540641 For your age you need 1500 calories daily to safely lose weight. I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.

1026267 tn?1257591273 m not familiar with the low iodine diet, but I eat a non-inflammatory diet which recommends coconut milk. The only downside I know of is, coconut milk is packaged in cans, and most cans these days have been proven to contain/leach biosphenol-a. I have a recipe for coconut milk though, which is easier than almond milk.. (although I do make fresh almond milk every 2-3 days) 1 cup dried unsweetened coconut (Bobs Red Mill is one) 4 cups warm pure water Soak for 15 minutes.
Avatar m tn This is apparently what causes everything to go wrong with the clean up in the arteries and rehab centres across the UK are now telling all patients to eat nuts, fruits, dark green vegetables and whole grains. Studies have shown that eating a rich antioxidant diet reduces the risk of artery disease. So apart from avoiding those foods stated by your meds, you need lots of vitamin C, in dark veggies, tomatoes and citrus fruits.
Avatar n tn Diet — The Key to Prostate Cancer Prevention After examining the diets of 28 countries, one study found that the most common link to prostate cancer was the consumption of milk, especially non-fat milk. In fact, over two-thirds of cases were attributed to milk consumption. The reason appears to be high amounts of calcium, since taking calcium supplements also dramatically increased risk.

Avatar f tn the government when alot of our profit comes from dairy companies. Check who does the studies and finds milk is better, it is usually the dairy companies. So just make sure you eat alot of green vegetables that contain the many metals we need in small enough doses to be efficiently absorbed and you will be fine. eggs have 10% (USDA), and mushrooms I believe are at like 40%, fish is about 90% for an ounce, so yes fish is a great option and the spinach too.
