1900997 tn?1321659956 I absolutely think lactose intolerance is the issue here. Lactose intolerance can come about at any age and for random reasons. I got it after I had my first child. There are different levels of intolerance and thus different amounts people can handle. I rarely ever drink a glass of milk. I find that is isn't a problem when I put it in my cereal. In fact, it helps to keep me regular. The gas is still a bit of a hindrance.
Avatar m tn Hi, 'Signs of a milk allergy that may occur immediately after consuming milk include: * Wheezing * Vomiting * Hives Signs and symptoms that may take more time to develop include: * Loose stools (which may contain blood or mucus) * Diarrhea * Abdominal cramps * Coughing or wheezing * Runny nose * Skin rash It's important to differentiate a true milk allergy from milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance.
Avatar f tn s a sort of allergy, or a digestive problem about breaking down milk proteins, similar to lactose intolerance being a digestive problem about breaking down milk sugars. Lactose intolerance sometimes follows milk protein intolerance. Milk protein intolerance is difficult to positively diagnose. But it tends to be a slower reaction than milk allergy, which is often quick, or lactose intolerance, which follows within a hour or so.
1099201 tn?1338180918 I just turned 80, and have had some digestive issues, such as nausea, bloating and diarrhea during the last few years, often in connection with my hobby of running ultramarathons, which suggested a late-life onset of lactose intolerance. As an experiment, I started using the chewable lactase supplements (Lactaid, etc.) before meals, and that seems to have taken care of the problem, which seems like prima facie evidence of LI, although I haven't been tested or diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Sorry this is way off of our normal subject, but I was just wondering the signs of lactose intolerance and whether or not you can get this as you get older. I am wondering because I have had abdominal pain for the past about 4 days. And I mean it really hurts. Also my back kind of where my kidneys are. I also get nausea a little and spent this morning vomiting. I went to the doctor and he said I was free of infection, and I am not pregnant so he does not know.
Avatar f tn u could have a allergy called lactose intolerance which basically means u cant break down the sugars from lactose which is mainly found in dairy products there are tests for this with your doctor{breath tests} and is very common.
Avatar n tn My son is 3½ and about a year ago, he started vomiting after drinking milk or eating something with large quantities or milk. We took him to the doctor thinking that he could be lactose intolerant, but all of the tests came back negative. The doctor did say that they weren't always conclusive but to slowly reintroduce normal milk into his diet. The first time he drank real milk he vomited and since then, he has been on lactose free milk.
Avatar f tn I've always been allergic (not lactose intolerance) to milk since I was born. Now at 5 weeks all I want to eat is milk and things made from milk. Does this mean my baby isn't allergic to milk? Or my allergy for milk going away since I'm pregnant? Or just being pregnant cravings? I don't want to drink milk thinking I'm not allergic and get sick. Help please?
Avatar f tn I'm not sure whether constipation is associated with lactose intolerance. I have lactose intolerance and I certainly don't get constipated ;) I'm not as sensitive as you, as I can eat small amounts of lactose. If I eat too much lactose I get bloating, cramps, gas and diarrhea. Have you tried lactose-free milk? No lactose...only dairy. See how you react to that. Just don't buy Wal*Mart brand...I think they skimp on removing the lactose and leave some in the milk! LOL.
1226811 tn?1271521927 it will give you bloating, mabee even diarrhea. you can still have milk products that are lactose free, lactose free milk which is about the same price as regular milk, and when you want to eat anything containing milk (chese, etc, get some Lacteeze pills at the pharmacy and take as indicated on package, there great.
Avatar n tn Milk allergies are different from lactose intolerance - lactose-free or low-lactose dairy foods are not appropriate for a milk allergy (to milk protein). There is excellent, well-researched information here calcium for dairy-free diets: http://www.godairyfree.org/Table/Health-Info/Calcium/ and the whole site has a ton of information on non-dairy foods. I avoid both gluten and all dairy, so I use it often.
Avatar n tn It is kind of the same because Lactose Intolerance does the same thing. Obviously you do not have an anaphylactic allergy to milk but you do have some allergy to it. I recommend the soy products. Good luck and hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Some people cannot have any dairy products at all yet some can tolerate cheese, yogurt but no milk (Some people can tolerate skim milk but not whole milk). Most people with lactose intolerance have loose bowels to diarrhea after eating dairy products and have mild to severe (depending on how much they eat) abdominal pains. Suggest having your son tested by an Allergist so you know if he has an intolerance or not.
Avatar f tn t go away and I have to take a lactose pill when I have milk. But soy milk and almond milk are both good. Different but good.
7729616 tn?1393795492 s in January this year and an alternative nutritionist diagnosed me with dairy intolerance. She recommended I drink rice milk, almond milk and lactose-free milk to relieve my symptoms. However, I have since been under the impression that it could be a dairy allergy rather than intolerance as I still get digestive upset when drinking the lactose-free milk and it's a very sudden reaction, which occurs within 20-30 minutes.
Avatar f tn It doesn't really help but lactose intolerance is actually not an allergy, it's a normal development your body goes through at some point in your life. Anyway, try lactofree products. I don't know where you live but they're widely available here in the UK. There are also little tablets you can take to help you digest dairy products.
1099716 tn?1257569824 Well I called the place this morning and asked them about the milk shakes. I found out they use a lot of butter fat in their milkshakes... which is apparently not something done regularly since I've never had this issue before. What does it mean being allergic to this? I'm I possibly mildly lactose intolerant? I used to be an avid milk drinker and had stomach problems and they switched me to skim milk. I never had what I would call a noticeble issue after that.
Avatar f tn You can still bf if baby has an intolerance by avoiding dairy in your diet. Your milk is very different from cows milk. The baby would exhibit reflux, rashes, or bloody stool if it has an allergy or intolerance.
Avatar f tn Milk allergy is very common. It causes a variety of symptoms from splitting headaches, tinnitus, skin irritation, asthma, wheezing, breathing problems, sore throat and gastro-intestinal/stomach problems. Imagine ingesting poison ivy. The body reacts everywhere it touches. Same with milk - it's NOT lactose intolerance, it's true allergy. Allergies get worse with exposure, not better so be sure to eliminate dairy products from everything!
Avatar n tn If it does turn out to be the milk, she may have lactose intolerance or a dairy allergy. Dogs can develop food sensitivities or food allergies anytime in their lives to any food, even something like chicken, if they are allergy prone. If the problem becomes more frequent it may require investigation by your veterinarian. A food trial may be warranted. This consists of feeding a hypoallergenic food for 8 weeks and nothing else during that period of time.
Avatar n tn Milk allergy and lactose intolerance are two totally different things. So, if you were negative for allergy, you can still have lactose intolerance. Pretty strict lactose-free diet trial is needed for that, or...you just can have a hydrogen breath test with lactose to confirm diagnosis.
Avatar f tn i have lactose intolerance and i am on a diet where i cant eat anything with milk not even if thrs just a little milk in a cookie recipe but lately i have been feeling like throwing up after i take lactaide if i go out i take it i feel like i have the flew but its off and on
Avatar f tn Continued that day then diarrhea for approx 4 to 5 days. Recently a GI diagnosed possible DELAYED MILK Allergy. He does keep a mild bumpy rash on upper arms. My concern is can this type of allergy really cause this type of cycle? I would think he would have more symptoms closer together. We began NO milk protein diet& scheduled MRI next month. Will MRI only show brain or can they see intestinal problems as well?
Avatar f tn I have been all my life but my pregnancy it was worse. They have lactose free milk that you can drink.
Avatar f tn There is a difference between lactose intolerance and a milk allergy. You might have a milk allergy. If milk bothers you, you should avoid it.
Avatar n tn s a milk allergy, because I can eat regular cheese without problems and can have lactose-free milk in my coffee with no problems (my husband is lactose intolerant so it is all we have in the house). I have tried lacto-free yogurt as well and it seemed to be okay to eat. So obviously treatment is as simple as avoiding the trigger foods, but I'd like to understand this better since it's a fairly new problem and I've been eating these foods for years.
