1176038 tn?1263687032 I think it could very well be a milk allergy - I had a milk allergy as a child and had the same symptoms, as well as vomiting and abdominal pain. i would contact her pediatrician again and ask him for advice on trying a milk-free diet to see if it helps her symptoms.
317245 tn?1258737545 The pediatrician said it could be a form of a milk allergy and to put him on soy milk. He has been on soy milk for a month now and the rash is gone but his stools are still horribly loose. In order to keep the stools from being completely liquid we have to feed him the BRATTY diet, and this only gets the stool to a "sludge" consistency not even anything remotely formed. He probably has 4 or 5 dirty diapers a day. I also give him a daily dose of probiotics.
Avatar f tn However, it damages part of the intestine that is involved in milk digestion, so it can CAUSE issues with milk that go away on a gluten free diet. Also, it can trigger at any age. 1 in 133 people have it, in randomized studies. People with this disease are more prone to food allergies. And, sadly, in a recent study, over 60% of Gastroenterologists surveyed, world wide, did not have accurate information on important aspects of diagnosing this disease.
Avatar f tn Could be allergy or intolerance to milk, that's what it was for my son. Test for food allergy AND milk protein peptides showing up in the urine, indicating enzyme deficiency in breaking down milk protein. Is he irritable or occasionally spike fevers for no reason? My sons weight was in the 10th percentile and I went to the doctor from the time he was 10 months old for that and his emotional coping problems. I thought they must somehow be related, but was told no.
Avatar f tn To find out whether your child is having contact dermatitis to milk(eczema)or he is having milk allergy(rashes are present in the mild form of milk allergy),skin tests and food challenge tests have to be done by an allergist.Pls consult him for that. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn My son has had eczema since he was a couple of months old but we didnt see any signs of allergy until i stopped breastfeeding him and he had breathing problems , when we had him tested we found he had allergies from many foods like garlic, lemons, oranges, grapes, sunflower seeds and oil, olives and olive oil, peaches, apples, lobster, cheeses , and cows milk but yoghurt is ok and chocolate so some things with cows milk were fine, we could give him some of these foods in moderation and not more
Avatar n tn We got a mill to make our own rice flour. We also use masa. Milk wise, we use rice milk and soy milk. We have come up with recipes for cookies, pancakes, spaghetti sauce, chili, banana bread, etc. We also do tacos with corn tortillas and sometimes have 'beanie tacos' (that my kids really like) where we put refried beans, onions, and sauce on the corn tortillas. Rice Chex and Honey Nut Chex work well for cereals. Does any of that sound like it would work for your family?
Avatar f tn Suggest going to an Allergist to determine if he has an allergy to milk protein or not so you can feed him the proper foods. If there in milk products in Aptamil, then switch to an infant formula without milk products. It is recommended that children under 1 year old should not have cow milk to prevent allergies and needs to remain on infant formula. At 1 years old, children can start to be weaned off infant formula to cow milk. To help him gain weight, suggest feeding him extra meat at meals.
290018 tn?1240365868 Hey all. I have a 4 year old son who s allergic to milk, grass, outdoor fungi and has asthma. He has had allergy testing done but he was only tested for some general trees, grasses, foods, and fungus. He gets random rashes and the past 3 days in a row has had a new rash come up each day. They have all been ichy and raised which i am pretty sure is contact dermatitus. The first day he layed a playpin changing pad, (being silly) he of course could only get the top of his body on it.
Avatar n tn He gained weight rapidly until he reached 6 months old then hardly gained even a pound since then. He is now one year old but only weighs 16.5lbs. He eats very well and is not a picky eater at all. I had horrible allergies as a child and was allergic to everything including wheat and milk. Many of my family members also have wheat and dairy allergies so I have decided not to feed him any wheat or dairy until he is 2 years old. My doctor agreed that this was a wise decision.
Avatar m tn Hello - my five year old daughter has been throwing up phlegm for the past month. This has been happening on average about 3 times a week (always on preschool days) just as she is about to have lunch. She will start to eat, throw up the phlegm and then she continues eating. We have seen a TCM doctor who said she has excessive heat in her body and suggested we add additional fruits to her diet (which we have done). Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Avatar f tn t go away even with many different types of antibiotics. He had tubes put in his ears and they took over a year to fall out. He only had about 2 or 3 ear infections while they were in. Well they finally fell out and he's been having trouble hearing. I find myself talking loudly and sometimes having to yell at him. I took him to the ear doc and he's got fluid again in his ears blocking him from hearing good.
Avatar m tn Suggest in place of milk and at the end of each meal give him milkshakes (milk and ice cream blended together – add a banana if he will accept it) or yogurt smoothies (yogurt, milk, and frozen fruit blended together) or a Pediasure milkshake for increase acceptance. Some tips for additional calories: Add dry milk to oatmeal, mashed potatoes, gravies, creamed vegetables, and creamed soups (add additional meats to soups).
Avatar n tn s milk is the #1 cause of ear infections in kids. Maybe check with your pediatrician about getting milk completely out of her diet for about two months and see if this helps. Did they test for fungal or yeast infections in her ears? Antibiotics won't help that. The foods we eat, if we cannot digest them properly or if we are allergic to them, can cause inflammation and seem to provide "food" for the little organisms to grow. And the ears are a hot spot for problems.
463595 tn?1333997222 At 1, my son liked sliced olives, dice-sized bites of ham, chopped tomatoes, cooked carrots and frozen peas (served frozen). I always had those things on hand (even the carrots -- I'd cook a bunch at a time and then keep them in a baggie in the fridge) so if the rest of the meal was just plain pasta, I still could toss the rest onto his plate and look like I tried hard. Fruit was either cut-up apple or cut-up banana, though he learned pretty early to peel and eat the whole banana.
Avatar n tn We finally found the solution - soy formula. When she turned 1 year old and we were weening her from formula, we had to dillute her whole milk until she could finally tolerate (w/o producing diarrhea) taking whole milk. For the past several years we have been noticing the great amount of flatulance(gas) she produces on a daily basis. It has just become apparent to me that milk/lactose has been the problem from the beginning. What was I thinking???
Avatar f tn My 5yr. Old son has had tummy problems since a year old. Periods of stomach bug like symptoms lasting few days then disappear. However this yr. This cycle has became a monthly thing. Begins with vomiting always early am. Usually 3to4am. Continued that day then diarrhea for approx 4 to 5 days. Recently a GI diagnosed possible DELAYED MILK Allergy. He does keep a mild bumpy rash on upper arms. My concern is can this type of allergy really cause this type of cycle?
Avatar f tn Hello, Most of the breast-fed babies develop lactose intolerance which usually self corrects but not always if it is a cow milk or a formula milk "problem" or allergy/intolrance with some dietary ingredient. Most babies with milk allergy are allergic to cow’s milk protein, while others are allergic to soy protein, and some to both. Breast-fed infants normally have stools that look like watery, yellow cottage cheese.
Avatar n tn my 1 1/2 year old daughter seems to have lactose intollerance. She can not eat any food that contains milk cooked or not. She also can not have lactaid, or peanut butter, hot dogs, oatmeal, or high fat food. She gets really bad bloatting, horrible diaharea, abdominal pain, and ocasional vomitting from all of these iteams.
Avatar m tn I am not certain that a milk and cookie before bed is a good idea...If this has been happening since he was 1 year old have they told you what the problem may be ? I am wondering about a food allergy and possibly I mean milk ,how about you try something, give him water and a cookie before bed or preferably just water .Milk whilst good for children is notoriously allergic for some .Now you say he does this each morning is this after his breakfast or before ?
Avatar m tn She didnt have any ice cream the night before and was never up coughing.. Same goes for our 5 year old give any type of milk before bed, 99% of the time she is up coughing. i said bedtime alot because thats usually only when the coughing happens, really kind of weird . Our 5 year old has chronic nasal problems and uses prescription nose spray. So is it really an allergy or something else??
