It depends on where the pain and numbness is. There is a cause of numbness of the index finger and middle finger called carpal tunnel syndrome. It usually also has sensory changes of the palm at the thumb, index and middle fingers, and the ring finger on the side near the middle finger. I am not sure if you have these other features or not, but I will elaborate on this. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a compression/entrapment syndrome of the median nerve at the wrist.

It has been three months since the injury and the pain is still the same. It hurts when I hold my finger and move it side to side and up and down and also when pressure is applied. It also hurts between the knuckle and the beginniing part of my finger when pressure is applied. Also it hurts on my knuckle when pressure is applied. Should I get it looked again right away? Both my middle knuckle and the knuckle on my pointer finger still looks enlarged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

about 6 months ago i started to experience pain in my right hand around the middle knuckle- but more the area between the pointer and middle finger from the base of the finger to the middle of the top of my hand. its often swollen and i noticed a bruise on the top of my hand in that area today. i had an xray when the pain started and they saw nothing.

i thought it was just a jam. now it still hurts but only if i stretch it or movie alot. it is my right middle finger and it hurts around the knuckle. it hurts alittle to the right and to the left of the knuckle when i push down on it also. but there is absolutely no swelling at all. and also no difference in color or size hen my other middle finger. i was wondering whats wrong with it, and if i should do anything about it.

The other thing I noticed that pointer and middle finger were swollen a bit and I think they still are bit bigger (fingertip area) than same ones on other hand. The sensitiveness comes and goes by the day. Also found a tiny red dot on middle finger, under that I can feel tiny lump which isn't painful. Overall there wasn't significant pain since the day after incident. When I touch around the pointer's joint I feel it's bit sensitive to harder pushes.

Take an OTC anti-inflammatory pain killer, and something to subside the swelling. Dip hand in alternate warm and cool water, starting and ending in warm water. If this does not help you overcome pain and swelling over next 2-3 days, then please go to the ER and get this examined. An-X-ray should ideally be done as soon as possible. Take care!

Swelling went down after several days, then it came back with a vengence with severe swelling and lots of pain but this time only in the fingertip. The pressure was so intense that I tried to drain it, I know I shouldn't have. Nothing would come out. The swelling is symmetrical and is only in one localized place on both hands and feet, on top of hands/feet going from between index and middle finger to my wrist/ between the big toes up my feet to almost the ankle. it sounds like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome to me. Do the pops feel like someone pulled and let go of a guitar string? not sure if that makes sense but I get that sensation. Also, if you tap on the inside of your srist, almost the heel of your hand (by the palm) and pain shoots into your middle finger & first finger & thumb, there is a good chance that it's CTS. that is a test they do for CTS.

The symptoms include range of motion pain, inability to throw, pain when hugging someone, tingling in the back of my hand and into the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. I have had trigger-finger surgery left middle due to repetative gripping action due to my occupation. I cannot extend finger backwards, cannot place fingers together, get incredible undesrible pain simply doing nothing. Sometimes pain shoots up inside of my palm through my forearm to elbow almost like electrical shock. It is swollen-surgery performed 2/15. I am following exercises doctor advised to no avail. Not on any medication except ibuprofen.

ve also been waking up with pain in this finger. It feels slighty warm and I can see a very faint, small, light red mark under the skin of the side of the fingertip. I don't recall injuring or over-using my hand or fingers recently. Thanks.
