Avatar m tn Hi, I was diagnosed with primary hypertension a year ago and since then have been on Lisinopril hctz and have recently changed to Micardis 20 mg. Now my BP is not normally high on a daily basis but it raises after drinking alcohol. Now my question is if my BP is high the next day after alcohol even with my meds does that mean my med is not working and I should change or is it normal for alcohol to raise BP and meds not to come into effect?
1351623 tn?1285916492 Can anyone please help me about this cause everytime I go to the doctor, all my blood tests are normal... I have been taking Micardis 40mg and Lercanidipine 10 mg for my hypertension since December 2008..Also I am working as a Draftsman...Thank you..
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 Diastolic Dysfunction which they tell me was brought on by uncontrolled hypertension. I thought my hypertension was well controlled with Micardis (40 mg.) but apparently, on mild exertion, my blood pressure can go as high as 160/90. I go to physical therapy for lower back pain. This involves some mild cardiovascular exercise (walking in warm chest-high water.) I am wondering how safe it is for me to continue doing the mild exercise.
Avatar f tn Did they give you any med's for the pre or hypertension? A LVEF of 37% is not good; but, not congestive heart failure. If they left off at that I would get a second opinion if possible or pester them for an explanation of why it dropped. I have just started to understand diabetes and testing. I have noticed when I'm stressed or upset my glucose numbers rise along with my BP and HR. Though as I said I'm new to this diabetes thing.
404682 tn?1324579818 5 mgs at night because my BP is really high when I wake up. After being on it for 5 days I ended up in the ER with dizziness and another sudden BP spike. ER sent me home told me to take a norvasc when I got home then to start taking it in the AM. Next morning I felt awful so my GP told me stop norvasc and started me on clonidine.1mg but take only if bp is above 140. I was fine all week and then today mid morning another spike...
Avatar f tn My heartrate now is in the 40-60s range which to me is way better than it was before the bb. I am on several Meds for hypertension but bp is very labile. It used to be very high and suddenly drop causing syncope. Now it mostly stays 100/60-110/60 range although shoots, way up at Dr. They are actually talking about taking me off the micardis.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Atenolol 25 mg twice daily and Micardis 20 mg once daily. It's my fertile time. We had a mishap with a condom last night and I am concerned that I could become pregnant. Is the medication a concern, or should I contact my doctor?
Avatar m tn suffer from hypertension. I have recently been recording my blood pressure at home and it is usually fine, however whenever I go to the doctors it's always elevated. the only medication that I am taking is Micardis 40mg & Cartia. I have only recently stopped smoking and am determined to get my life into shape. One year ago I began to suffer from Ectopic heartbeats.
987762 tn?1671273328 Hey knowledgeable people, I'd like to pick your collective brains if I may, and possibly help my mother. Some of you may remember, she 'was' physically very healthy for her age (early 70's), apart from 20+ yrs dx bipolar, she'd had the odd medical issues that over the years had been dismissed as psychological (all resolved when the physical cause dealt with) but she always had normal blood pressure and was tootling along perfectly.......
1689583 tn?1387752394 It depends on what medication you're taking. I take diltiazem, although I take it for esophageal spasm. I don't have high blood pressure. I had to reduce the dose while in a study for a similar medication (PI). PIs can increase the amount of blood pressure medication in you if you take a calcium channel blocker like diltiazem.
Avatar m tn I am currently on MiCardis and Atenolol. Have responded well to them for over two years. Last few days have experienced increased BP according to my monitor but I'll check three times in a row and the readings will differ significantly (Ex: yesterday, 151/110 then 146/109 and finally 137/93) This has been happening the past four days. So my questions are: Should I seek to change medications? Change dosages? Or could there be other causes that are temporary that might 'go away'?
Avatar f tn I am 82 and as I live alone and manage all my affairs and exercise regularly and have no problems other than high blood pressure.I was prescribed twynsta for my pressure and I take one tablet at night .My pressure in the morning is around 135/80 but around 12 noon it went down to 100/51 this has happened a few times and I feel slightly dizzy at these times and also sleepy .once i have had a nap I am back to the previous reading.
Avatar m tn I was released after 28 days in the hospital for a cardiac cath site infection this was on the 12th of Sep. since my release I have had a rapid pulse between 105 and 125, swelling in my lower legs, and pain both in the calf and front which is aggravated by walking or climbing stairs. Sitting there is no pain at all. What is causing this? I take several BP medicines as well as cholesterol meds. Micardis, plavix, a diuretic amlodipine.
Avatar f tn I have been having tachycardia attacks since I was in my 30's, I am 80 now and I would just rest for a few minutes until they were over. Now I still have them and one that happened 4 years ago wouldn't stop. I wound up in the hospital where the emergency doctor had trouble stopping it but finally did. I stayed there a week having many tests and they found I have a form of leukemia. Chronic myelogenous leukemia.

Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
Avatar n tn My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
Avatar m tn Currently I am on multiple of 3 BP pills for 6 or more depending on how high my BP goes, and 2 of 1 relaxent pill. Is there any value in getting acunpuncture to lower my BP. I'm only having a problem with the stystolic number mainly ranging between 150 and 220. If yes, is there a good site to go for a qualified acupuncturist for hypertention in the Detroit area? Also, I've had all the tests listed on webmd and more for hypertension, nothing was found wrong over the last 15 years.
Avatar m tn Getting drunk is not good for your heart or indeed for the rest of your body. This is an important decision you need to make right now. Look after your body for now or suffer more serious consequences. This is not meant to scare you just to say it like it is. You can have fun without alcohol you just have to work a at it. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn Hi - suggest your Mom call her doctor to let him or her know that she is having such bad headches and elevated blood pressure. In addition to calling her doctor she might want to speak with her pharmacist - they usually offer free consultations for their customers and they could go over all of your Mom's medications with her, looking for possible problems that might cause headaches and elevated BP.
Avatar n tn I also have what appears to be refractory hypertension. One year ago, when hypertension was dx, an echocardiogram indicated only mild regurgitation of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. My physician, at this time (EP for pacemaker), said this would go away once BP was controlled. Over a year later, despite seeing a hypertension specialist and trying many different drug regimines, BP still remains high.

1251922 tn?1269981784 I'm a small-sized 72-year old female. I have been on Micardis 20mg for 2 1/2 months. for the 1st 3-4 week it elevated my BP instead of lowering it. Fortunately, in the 5th week I saw the results (mean day reading:115/75). And the morning surges were gone! But in 2 weeks,i experienced a sudden spike of 148/89. It took a couple of days to return to normal. However, in another 2 weeks there was another spike. And another couple of days to return to normal. Please explain why this happened.
