Avatar n tn Gout is a disease hallmarked by elevated levels of uric acid in your blood. In this condition, crystals of monosodium urate (MSU) or uric acid are deposited on the articular cartilage of joints, tendons, and surrounding tissues. Gout is characterized by excruciating, sudden, unexpected, burning pain, as well as swelling, redness, warmth, and stiffness in the affected joint. This occurs most commonly in men's toes but can appear in other parts of the body and affect women as well.

Avatar n tn During this process uric acid is produced in the bloodstream. And uric acid is good for us because it acts as an antioxidant and helps look after the internal linings of our blood vessels. It's our kidneys' job to process the uric acid produced and excrete waste out of our bodies via our urine, with a little via our stools. What Causes High Uric Acid in Blood?

373367 tn?1246402035 Does anyone have any real info on the link between low uric acid levels and MS? My husband came across something online a few months ago and told me I should buy some inosine (a precursor to UA) and give it a try. I just got my bloodwork back from the life insurance policy today, and the only abnormal level was a low uric acid?? I guess I might as well go buy some inosine, the thousands of dollars we've spent on tests and doctors has pretty much gotten me NOWHERE!
Avatar n tn Uric Acid connected to symptoms of cardiovascular disease, spasticity and involuntary movements of muscles, cognitive retardation (fibro fog), arthritis, kidney stones, abdominal pain, hypertension and more. These symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Uric acid is connected to oxidative stress, which is caused by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen and a biological system's ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or easily repair the resulting damage.
Avatar n tn My dad is 59 years old, 6' tall, and about 250 pounds (in process of losing weight). He had a gout attack in September on his knee, and it was very painful for him. He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.
Avatar n tn There are articles which link uric acid levels (high uric acid is associated with Gout) with HCV and interferon but I don't think that gout is a side effect of HCV or treatment. If that were the case I think I would have seen a lot more posts on the subject - I can't remember one). I treated 3 times and my last ended in June 2004. I never had gout until May 2009. Too often we attribute every malady we have to HCV or treatment but it's more often that not wrong.
646318 tn?1261181494 On the other hand, there are mechanisms associated with increased production of uric acid. Uric acid is a purine base that may originate from turnover and degradation of various phosphate nucleosides, such as ATP, or dinucleotides. Increased ATP turnover has, in turn, been shown to explain hyperuricemia induced by ethanol, acetate and fructose." (Vuorinen-Markkola & Yki-Järvinen 1994). --------- "Is the high uric acid level the cause of my back pain??

2062453 tn?1350332942 Did you have elevated uric acid in your blood while undergoing HCV treatment? If you did have elevated uric acid, did it result in gout either during or shortly after treatment? I recently completed 24 weeks of HCV triple therapy (Incivek). My uric acid was a couple of points high throughout treatment. About a week before I completed treatment, I started experiencing discomfort in the joints at the base of my big toes.
Avatar f tn wow, why is your dr congratulating you on such a low uric acid level??? normal levels are 2.6-7.2 Sometimes high uric acid levels DO cause kidney stones, but yours is below normal level. absolute monocyte levels should range between 40-900. Monocytes are made by the bone marrow and stored in the spleen. Monocytes help to fight infection.
