I was recently diagnosed with trich and was prescribed by a nurse 500 mg 2 times a day for 5 days of metronidazole. I'm really cautious and worried about taking it because i searched and this pill has a lot of bad side effects, like making you really sick. It says that there is an alternative pill called azithromycin with less side effects. I talked to my OB about that and she said that she hasn't prescribed that to anyone who has trich.
ok, so i took metronidazole singe dose of 4 pills like advised. it was a 2000 MG script so I can get rid of Trich. I would be out of the infectious disease office pronto. Rico is right, 400 MG a day is what I am on now and what I started out with. I had Babesia which I hope is cured and I also have Bartonella which for me is worse because its all neurological problems in my case. I think you need to be tested for co-infections also so an LLMD is the way to go. At least you are on the right path.
Persistent metronidazole-induced peripheral neuropathy. DICP 1990 Jan;24(1):19-21 The complete resolution of sensory symptoms have been reported to take up to 6 months. The other two side-effects (dark urine, and skins reactions) have also been reported during usage of Flagyl, but promptly resolved after medication is stopped. I hope this information is helpful. Hello- I am 1 day away from being done with metronidazole 750 mg tabs once a day x 7 days. I am wondering how long after taking this antibiotic my symptoms should be gone fully?
The dose for a large lab would be 500 to 750mg twice per day tor 7 days (Do not overdose). If you have not given the correct dose or metronidazole than another course of metronidazole may help. There could be gastrointestinal parasites not covered by the metronidazole, of course, and it would be best to have your dog's stool checked.

For yeast infections I was always given either monistat or fluconazole. A bacterial infection like BV would require metronidazole (flagyl).

But if 2 separate partners have had trich, especially if it seems likely you infected them, you probably have it. Despite common recommendations for single-dose metronidazole, which works well in women, no research has ever shown whether it is effective in men, and stories of treatment failure (like yours) are common. You should ask your provider for more prolonged treatment with metronidazole, e.g. 500 mg twice daily for 5 days.

Hello, Treatment of giardiasis in pregnancy can be difficult. Metronidazole is often avoided based upon old reports of teratogenic effects in rats, although human studies have not documented such risks. If symptoms of giardiasis are minimal, therapy can be withheld until after delivery. If symptoms are bothersome, paromomycin (25 to 35 mg/kg per day PO in three divided doses for seven days) can be used.
diff after urinery infection in Miami put on 1000 mg vancom daily and after 6 days had rash over whole body...doctor stopped med and then 3 days later got c.diff again...now on flagyl for 17 days and tapering off for 1 wk 2 pills and now last week 1 pill.....but she continues to have 3 to 5 bms a day no diarreah but loose stools....I am worried that the loose stools says she still has the infection and in a few days will be off flagyl....

On the 19th of February I tested positive For C-Diff/Colitis, and was put on antibiotics (Metronidazole 500 mg 1 tablet 3 per day) for 2 weeks. Half way through this the pain was intense and the Dr's could not hear any bowel sounds and ended up spending 9 days in the hospital. My question is how long is it before the toxins go away, and then safe to get tested again to make sure the pain I am still in, isn't because the C-Diff hasn't gone away completely.
Almost a week and a half ago I was diagnosed with trich. I was given metronidazole 500 mg. it was 4 pills and took all in one dose. Completed that and waited til day 5 to have sex. After that I began having discharge and smile itchin or discomfort again. I went back to the dr and she stated it was still bacteria left from trich but trich was not present. So she gave me more metronidazole 500mg. But I am not taking 2 a day for 7 days. The irritation is almost unbarable.
The local doctor diagnosed it as dysentery - both amoebic and bacterial dysentery. She used a microscope to make this diagnosis. She prescribed me 500 mg Metronidazole - to be taken 3 times a day over 10 days. I am now into the 7th day of treatment. My diarrhea (very watery) persists and so does he stomach cramping. The diarrhea also appears to continue having mucus. My stomach cramping becomes pronounced when I eat. I take small issue with this doctors diagnosis based on what I have read.
